Aside from your lease/hire purchase payments, I'm curious to know on average how much you think all other costs would be to run a Monaro each month?

-Fuel (I know, depends how much you drive it and how you drive but best guess please)
-Service
-Insurance
-other?

It doesn't have to be 100% accurate. Best guesses are a help.

I'm looking at a new VZ. My budget is tighter than I first thought so any information is appreciated.

There was a good article on running costs on NRMA website detailing this.
http://www.mynrma.com.au/operating_costs.asp
They estimate about $265 a week all up, probably about right.

- Fuel (depending how often and how hard you drive) but for me using BP Ultimate I'd spend about $100 - $170 per week.

- Service $0 because i got free servicing for 1 year (also if you buy from Suttons they give you the 3 year free servicing)

- Insurance around $1500 for me here in Syd with AAMI so thats about $125 per month

- Others? - Rego i guess but that would be around $500 - $600 maybe per year?
(throw in here things like tyres, brake pads etc again depending on how you drive the car)

I dont know hope this helps ... being on a tight budget can somtimes be a problem when buying into cars like these 'cause they absolutely drink the juice ... but it wasnt something I worried about when deciding to buy the Monaro, otherwise I probably wouldnt of purchased a car like this.

cheers

I've got a novated lease and it's costing me around $1800 per month which includes ALL and sundry, lease, fuel, tyres, maintenance, insurance, rego and FUN. I'm scheduled to abuse 27,000km/year in all of that.

Now, when using the fuel card, I find i'm filling up around $60 every 5-6 days. Averaging 15L/100km. Umm, please do not include the first few weeks of driving where you will be hitting above 20L+. That little pedal thing has so much fun behind it that it just finds its way to the floor more often than you'd like.

Spend about $100 on cleaning products too, like I just did, and be prepared to wash your car every week to 2 weeks. Not because it gets dirty easily, but when you get that new look car delivered, you want the same experience each time you open the garage door.

And for the naysayers out there worried about how much petrol you're going to go through and what you will lose when selling the car you're missing the whole point entirely. These cars are meant to be enjoyed for years. Don't ruin those years of fun by focusing on that one day when you sell the car. That's just ludicrous. Would you rather a moments depression in a few years time or years of depression catching the bus on a rainy day instead? Yeah thought so. Yeah YOU, you know I'm talking to you. Why I orta.

Cheers,
Steve (Still smilin).

Steve done got it nailed. I keep finding excuses for going for a drive. I only use my car on weekends and the odd trip during the week. Had no probs doing the 15,000km for 20% FBT - did 13,000 between May 12 and March 31.

The really good news is, every 5,000km so far, she just goes better'n'better. Smoother, rortier note, better economy. Gears are smoother - clutch is a bit sadder, though!

Fuel economy is 15-16l/100km down from 18-19 around town. And that is driving 'smartly'.

It sits much easier and smoother on 100 in cruise, too - big hills it uses less throttle and labours far less. 7,000km after last service, oil is still ~ at the 'Full' mark on the disptick. I'm sure it's used a little.

I 'gree with the cleaning - keep it detailed/polished, and it takes one $2 piece and 5 minutes at a Carlovers to clean her down with the wand.

Can I think of things I'd like? Maybe some more brakes (fixed for VZ). Maybe more suspension. Maybe just a little more power. Other than that, a set of tyres that never wears out.

I even like the exhaust note, which has also got louder. I might get some straight stainless pipes fabbed to take out the crimps and keep the mufflers and cats; and just invest in an edit.

On Fifth Gear the other night Tiff Needell was sticking the welly in at Anglesey on a Vauxhall SIII - lots of sideways slidin' action. He reckoned it is a great drive. High praise from a bloke who gets to drive all sorts of big dollar tricko stuff like 430 Ferraris.

Pays to have a Monaro in Perh it seems.
I have a CV8 Series I auto 22k's cost as follows:

Fuel (weekly) $50 and i'm gettin 11.4/100k's av.

Servicing - just had the 20k's service done - was a little pricey at $600, but as the previous owner didnt drive the beast much over the last 3 years - had toget a few flushes done :)

Insurance $890 per year.

The car is absolutley awesome

Here's my figures

I'm getting 15L/100km's, insurance about $900 per year, and rego is $875 or something. Totally agree with clean product expenses as well.

Get's expensive if you have to replace a single tyre $400 plus, which I had to, had a puncture (@ 4000km's), then they found a small split on the inside of the tyre and wouldn't put it back on. After show talking to Bridgies tech boys they said tyre was fine but not to use on the front again, but no compensation for new tyre cost :((

Now I just need to do some serious k's to get over that 15000k limit here as well - but guess it's not the end of the earth, I am driving a monaro and it puts a smile on my face every time I get in it.

It's a bit of a how long is a piece of string question but I've had mine since October last year and I've done just over 14,000km.

My tanks of fuel can last anywhere between 400~800km on the far extremes of driving,

Service only costs me parts as my best mate who's a holden trained mechanic does it for me.

Insurance costs $1900 a year (gotta be happy about that).

Tyres are looking really good, I reckon I'll get close on 40000km out of them. (can't bring myself to destroying good tyres)

The enjoyment I receive everytime I sit in it: PRICELESS

I did 36000kms in the first year with the Crewman SS(Yes I know its not a Monaro, but running costs etc should be comparable), and I didn't even leave the state! I originally budgeted for $250 per month fuel, but with fuel going up from 82 cpl when purchased (Jan 04) to up around $1.15, I had to up it to $350 per month or walk 95kms per day to work and back. All up costs are about $470 post tax and $370 pre tax per fortnight for everything. I average between 10.8 to 11.5 lph fuel use according to Motorcharge.

My point for this post, however, it that if you do over nominated kms and therefore go up another FBT bracket, you get quite a bit back into your "kitty". I went over by a few thou kms and am getting back $5200 in FBT rebate into my lease account. Means won't have to go to the bottom end of the tyre market for new rubber. Yeehah! So, enjoy your drive, take your beasty on a holiday and rack up those kays. A day in the garage is a day wasted!
