Filled up the car and driving along Bell St tonight towards Coburg, just past Susex St intersection where Shell petrol station is, Im in a left lane and have to change to right because theres a car parked in left lane. All of a sudden I see this white Falcon wagon XF or maybe older start slowly drifting into my (oncomming) lane! I hit the horn but hes still drifting towards me, probably crossed about half a meter into my lane!!! I immidiately swerve to the left but too LATE!!! I hear this "BANG!" And see my right side mirror totally demolished, left hanging... I immidiately stop and wait to do a U turn as theres car behind me... As soon as I turned around I gave chase but the bastard has already disappeared   :bash: I drove a few KS down Bell St towards Strathmore area but couldnt see anywhere that white car... I bet he pulled into some quiet st off Bell St and hid there  :cussing:

Anyway I went to the cops and gave a statement, I however think nothing will happen because I couldnt get his/her rego and it was a "minor accident."

The damage was: totally fu.cked up right side mirror, its hanging by a thread and about a meter long, about 12cm wide white line of paint going down the right passenger door and the side rear panel,, but looks like no scratches, so far. Also because the mirror practically "exploded" (lucky I had a window closed otherwise Id prolly be blind now) it left some marks on the windows... dunno how hard that will be to clean up/fix.

And to top it all of we had the car at panel beaters 2 weeks ago to actually fix up some of the panels which has the white line of paint on it now! :bash:

Ah... I feel for ya.

Looking at it positively, a new mirror and a cut and buff and all is good.

If the door and quarter were pushed in 100mm you would be really pissed.

The spray gun will have to come out to colour match the mirror though.

I hate hit and runs.

similar thing happened to me not long ago, was driving in a real narrow backstreet near a soccer oval so it was full of cars, see some woman tearing up the street in the other direction, i did my best to dodge her by getting my nose in between 2 cars but she clipped my mirror and it literally exploded, my window was down so i had chunks of mirror all through the cabin, cos it was such a narrow street took me forever to chuck a u turn but she was long gone

Bad luck there. I was at Uni once driving a really nice Fairmont and there was parking on both sides of the narrow road. Suddenly I heard an explosion and my left mirror was no more. I had miscalculted and hit a Kombi van. I stopped and got out to assess the damage. I looked long and hard at the Kombi but it was so beat up already that I couldn't tell whether I had done any damage!

A VW had its revenge on me though about a week after we picked up the new Territory. Kombi ran right up the back of me and the bugger wasn't even sorry. And to top it off, his real name was John Howard!

But did he promise to pay and if so was it a "core promise" or a "non-core promise"

Im gonna call the comm wreckers tomorrow and see if they have a mirror available for a VS.

A mate of mine has some tools to fix up the paint work... buffing it and etc. hope it works out cheap.

A truck hit my side mirror a little while back and I stopped him.He paid me $250 for it and I just polished the paint of and was fine.
Ring Holden first as some parts are cheap.
I hope the paint buffs off.

Ok just rang Commwreck and the electric mirror for a VS is $80! We can spray it ourselves (I think all VS mirrors come in black).

1) Same thing happened to my girlfriend, I was driving behind her. I saw she was ok and gave chase. He was very appologetic when he pulled over and I called the cops. Drink driving he was.
2) Happened to me and the p plater tried to take off but me and 2 other cars followed him. I let insurance handle that one I figured the $1500 excess he had to pay was punishment enough. Looking back I should have put in a report against him.

Whats with hit runners down here in vic ? Never happened to me or anyone I knew in NSW.

yep, it happened to my VR Acclaim a few years back. left it parked on a fairly narrow street and came back that evening to find the driver's side mirror smashed to bits. the housing was ok but the whole mechanism inside was stuffed, so I had to replace the lot.

the respray was the expensive bit.

Sorry to hear interceptor.
I had a similar thing happen to me a few years back. Had a road rage incident with a 4x4 which was tailgating me. He ended up losing his cool and ripped my side mirror off. It was left dangling with it's wires still attached.
After he did this he tried to get away by doing an illegal left turn. I immediately chased him and got his rego and made a statement to police.
It took them over a year to get the guy to reimburse me the money for the mirror.
Don't worry, that guy will get what he deserves sooner or later.
