Im running the Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP's on my 17's
Couldn't rate them better, never felt so surefooted in the rain, due to its pattern based on the formula 1 rain tread, so it just carves through water. Dry weather is pretty good too and also due to another design characteristic, it takes corners reasonably well. It luckily also has rim protection shoulder, which saved my rims from getting gutted one night. Treadwear, i've done 7000km's on them and they still look fantastic, even wear so far. Best tyre i've used to date.

Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. Excellent wet, dry, corners, straight & not too pricey if you shop around.

The OE 17" Bridgestones on my '03 SV8 have served me well enough for 70,000km that I've fitted another set. Great wet handling, very good dry handling (I'll sacrifice "some" dry handling for wet any day) and great wear characteristics .. only problem is I can't remember exactly what they are (and the car isn't here!) :(

Turanzas if they are the standard Holden supply, or Expedia S03s if they are the HSV supplied ones,
I think Dunlop offer as good tyres as Bridgestone, but much cheaper price?

This month's Wheels has a tyre test in exactly that size.

A Goodyear took the prize, but there was another tyre from Maxxis (who are they?) that came third, was 98% as good the winner, and cost two thirds as much.

oh
by the way, after 2 months of research
I ended up with Toyos for the 17's on the SS

I found them to be the best value for money
not the grippiest not the stickiest but not the longest wearing
not the cheapest and not the dearest

cheers

i have Kumho Ecsta 712's fitted to my BA (235/45/17). Brilliant tyre in the wet even at bald stage. They cost me 160 each fitted.

Yeah i also conclude with the Kumho's as they are a great tyre for the price. Used to ruin them but found the Firehawks had the same characteristics as the Kumho's as a general feel of the tyre, but definately exceeded them overall.

I detailed the Wheels results in the same thread (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showpost.php?p=446794&postcount=4) last week. May be worth a read.

Does anyone know where I can get Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3 cheap in brissy. Down in Melb I could have bought them for around $180 each, but I didn't have enough room in the boot. Up here the best price i can get is around $300 each fitted. Does anyone know good places in brissy for these tyres. They that these are one of the best tyres. The size was 235/45/17 as well, so not sure why sooo cheap in Melb... Let me know anyways

Cheers

I got 25000 on my SO3's ATM and they look like doing about the same again. I dont hammer round every corner all day - just occasionally.

Rotated once so far, probly do so again in another 5-10 000.

OzJavelin must be doing lotsa country kays........

Sometimes.. just sometimes things go right. things went very right when I put the goodyear eagle gs d3 tyres on my car about 10 k ago. good tyre and they have the attribute that was missing from the b530's. sidewalls that stay upright. ( I'd almost forgotten how much I disliked those bridgies.)
