Well I've done around 400 k's now since installing the Big Mouth CAI in my VZ ss Ute, and can say the difference is very noticeable. At around 4000 rpm's the power is now right there and the sound through my HM headers and REMUS Racing exhaust growls. (Didn't before).

I'm happy with the results, and actually got the CAI for bassically cost price instead of the $599 rrp. Saved hundreds. I've reposted my original post re: the design probs though for your info. (Thanks for those replies last post too, i think SSInd. has maybe got it right this time bar the slight installation mods.)

Guys, Just installed the BIG MOUTH cold air induction into my VZ SS Ute and I wanted to let everyone know:
*It Doesn't just fit in easily!!!

1. The Filter Housing needs to be trimmed on the left where it meets the cross member as to fit under the lip (where it's suppost to go according to the installation instructions).

2. The Coolant reservoir pipe hole needs to be bored out 2mm as it's 38mm, and the pipe is 40mm!

3. The removable panel covering the rad cap on the stock cover is sealed on the SS Induction cover, rendering one to remove the whole cover if access neccessary to the cap!

You'd think SS Inductions would have at least tested a fitting to make sure the product is right before release?

Just a heads-up for anyone about to purchase. It's not that big'a deal, just makes installation an 1 1/2 hours instead of 20 minutes.

Any probs guys with previous models?

So where have the improvements been made over the
old model? Can't seem to find a photo anywhere.

Just got my SS CAI Installed today. Too Right!!!!! Growls Like Crazy. Felt a bit sluggish though, I think after a good beating and around 500 kays it'll soon realise what the hell is going on!!!!

I'm tipping you'll be selling it, and getting a PT OTRCAI somewhere in the next three months :D

Felt a bit sluggish though :eek:Then I'd be guessing that'd be because of the power you've lost. There is a very big difference between making more noise and making more power. Sounds like in your case more noise = less power.

So whats the verdict on the big mouth thing.I was thinking of getting one myself.

Big mouth = Big ripoff

Do a search on here and see how many people like them. Zero.

Get yourself a Powertorque Over the Radiator CAI instead. Best bang for bucks you'll ever spend.

At 106mph I'm assuming you're running a mafless tune, just be a bit carefull borrowing one, it'll give you a good idea of the gains but mine was running very lean up high and had to be re-tuned after fitting it, and I'm not talking just a bit out, I'm talking engine miss above 5,500.

He is talking about testing the SS Inductions Big mouth
I think Mongy, not the PT OTRCAI.

Actually I dont like any of the SS stuff. No Ill see if I can test the PT one.
I just changed my valve springs so it might help as mine were falling off at 5800rpm.
Thanks fellas.

The PT OTR is a great product no doubt, but what about us guys who don't wish to get a mafless tune and we have VY / VZs? There's not too much around

The Sureflo OTRCAI can be fitted to a MAF car. Only
reason I didn't get one was I didn't want to chop up
my aftermarket engine covers to make it fit, so went
a Uniflow Sealed pod instead.

Had a look at them, they are a nice unit for the price.

Thanks for that Mongy, I have only seen the photo.
Takes about 10 working days for Auspost to get it
up here from Sydney, I am waiting impatiently :)

I had a SS on my old VR 3.8 and yeah i did get better fuel saving and a few more KM out of a tank of juice.

I dunno how the LS1 ones go. I would for that money get one of the over the radiator ones personally.. I see how they would cut out the whole airbox and force directly into the front of the engine or a MCAI even with maybe a pipe directing the air from the front grille to the CAI..
