Just heard on the news that Castrol has decided not to sponser Perkins racing from next year. The deal will lose Perkins Racing over $2 million a year.
Perkins racing says without a major sponser like Castrol it will struggle to race next season. Lets just hope that they find a new sponser soon it would be bad to see such a champion go out like this.

Has this got anything to do with the change from castrol perkins racing to team perkins racing?

First Kmart pulls the plug on a Holden team and now Castrol follows suit. What gives?

I haven't seen this written in the press as yet,& if true, it is certainly a major development.
Larry Perkins is an absolute legend,& a brilliant engineer, but sinse winning Bathurst in 1997, the team, whilst being consistent, hasn't really won much. HRT have won heaps for Mobil, & Stone Bros are doing well for Caltex. Shell dropped its major sponsorship from DJR this year as well, but that had been expected for some time. It's all about winning I guess, & if you don't perform, then I guess your sponsorship is in doubt, particularly for a major team like Perkins. The only person to buck this trend has been Peter Brock, who despite splitting with Holden in 1987, & not doing much winning on the track at that time(off the track was a different story),never even looked like losing his sponsorship with Mobil! An interesting question arising from the Perkins issue is that if Castrol have dropped Perkins, then which team will be the new recipient of their sponsorship? cheers,Pickles

Kmart ditched the sport completely, Shell have a much reduced involvement (I don’t think DJR even has small stickers). Mobil sponsorship on HRT is a lot smaller these days. Maybe its a trend, the "traditional" sponsors are leaving?

I believe that had something to do with perkins engineerings business of supplying engines/ components/ cars in regards to track test days.
Perhaps Castrol dont like paying big biccies & not even getting the naming rights of the team????

Castrol is going over to Tony Longhurst Racing, who will end up buying the other half of the team dynamik - so the rumour mill goes. Perkins will sell up, Steve Richards is going back to Ford. Silly season is on already!

Is steve richards going back to Ford??? As a Ford man I dont really want to see this. I love the current comp and how close it is now between holden and ford. Its a nail biting season.

Larry Perkins said in an interview on Sports Tonight Channel 10 last night he is committed to running the team next year, is looking for a new sponsor and Steve Richards is still on contract with the team for next year and will definitely be racing for Larry.

Yeah, again, that's the 'goss'. But they don't call it silly season for nothing. The other whacky rumour was that the Kelly family were going Ford too. That takes the cake!

Its sad see castrol leaving after so many years, ever since I was a kid they were always my favorite cars. What will be interesting is to see who perkins gets as a new sponsor, surley holden cant sponser another team.
