View Full Version : Is Commodore big enough ?
A question for the LS1 dads, or the ones in the know :
Is there enough room to put three child seats across the back seat...?
Has anyone done it...?
Cheers.

Plenty of room. Plus if you get a stato and you can actually get the middle kid out first. Heaps more leg room

Yes, but not the massive bulky ones I would have thought. Just carry some bandaids so you can patch up your bleeding knuckles after you have managed to do the seat belts up.

it depends on the type of seats, as Dave says the difficult part can be getting the belts done up, but if the seats use a harness arrangement its a bit easier (belts clip in the front).
what sort / combination of child seats?

You can fit three (just) if one is reversed and one is just a booster seat. If you have triplets and need 3 reverse seats or 3 kids under 2, it wont work.
Territory has a flat rear seat that takes 3 seats easily as does the Landcruiser if you dont want to go down the Tarago path.

We have 3 (10,3 and 5 months). Squeezed them all into the back of a rental Maxima in Qld and they 10 yr old was squished (just for comparison). That was with a booster seat and a child seat facing forward. In the back of the VX the child seats in the middle and the booster on the side and the 10yr old on the other side, and shes skinny. Thats decently roomy but a nuisance trying to undo the belts (PAINFUL).
Slightly wider would be nicer. The booster is the biggest nuisance width wise.

Sorry for not being clear enough, but this describes my situation and answers my question.
Looking at the alternatives.
Cheers.

Another option if you really want a Commodore is to try various seats. My brother is law fit 3 seats in a Laser for his triplets! The big luxo seats will not fit (we had one on each side of a VXII Clubby and they almost touched in the middle!!) but some of the smaller ones might ... of course the safety of the kids is more important than the car, but I reckon it could be done with the right seats.
Good luck, with the seats and the kids !! :)

I might sound silly here but I've never had one, is a Stato actually wider as well as longer?
Ive been doing a little research lately on back seat width myself and oddly found the difference in rear shoulder room in the back of a WRX and a Falcon is only 9cm(couldnt find the hiproom figure for the Falc). Not exactly earth shaking....I assume a Commodore would be about the same.

I've got triplets and yes they fit in the car fine from capsule stage through to child seats and now booster seats. Needed to fit 2 extra parcel shelf ancor points but that was easy as the bolt holes are already there.
Now if I can just figure out how to keep them quite.

DVD for the car is definitely on the shoping list.
The old "Are we their yet" by 3 is guaranteed to give you a headache after an hour or two.
