Quick question. My Bosses 2003 Model Barina is in for its 30,000km service. They say they need to replace the pads and machine the discs.
Considering the car doesnt get flogged (can you flog a Barina?) it seems a bit strange that this would be needed after 30,000ks.
Does this seem unreasonable to anyone ?, or is that standard practise on new Barina's?
Cheers,

Pretty common for the small European sourced cars currently on the market.
They are also normally fairly aggressive on rotors too!

I saw a vectra that needed front and rear pads and rotors at 39000 klms. the dealer quoted $1400

I gave a Barina a hiding once....I was in my Landrover Discovery and the Barina was a ride off
Back to the question yes it seems normal to me especially if stop and go city driving.

Astras do the same things, as do BMs, Mercs and a few others. The pads are very aggressive to work in the cold. If they are changing them, try to use a local pad - Bendix Mintex or something. You might trade a heavier-feeling pedal for much better life for discs and pads.

He should consider himself lucky he does not have to replace the rotors. Ask him to stash some cash for a new set next time around.

ive done over 38000km on my barinas brakes and they said they were 3/4 worn if in doubt take off the wheel and have a look
Meant to say this earlier, but I'm not surprised they're gone so quickly. Look at his front wheels - always covered in brake dust! They look worse than my VS with Ultimates, and that CHEWS through the rotors.

Not wrong!
Discpads.com has DBA's (which are probably cheaper) for ~$169 a side (for standard rotors). Standard DBA rotors for VTs onwards are only $79!
