I know many of you won't believe this, but...
Did anyone else notice it?
Sadly, i didn't have my camera, i'll be sure to take it tomorrow and go hunting a bit...
I followed this car all the way from Alford's Point thru to Bankstown, where I had to turn off.
Car appeared to be a mid-spec model, 'Syracuse' in colour (Light Gold/Champagne) colour sedan, unlike anything i've seen before...
Rear looked a bit like the current Honda Accord US Version, High Bootline, Similar Tail-lights but straighter... Badges were of course taped over but readible... Left side looked to say "HOLDEN", then Middle Badge removed, Right hand side badge was the interesting one, looked to say CDXi (ie Barina/Astra/Vectra) DEFINATELY NOT Acclaim/Executive etc, was writen in the same script as Current AWD Range Sorry didn't take notice of the exhaust, car was definately a V6 though as i couldn't hear a thing...
Front WAS a bit like a VZ, but with more styled headlights, No bonnett "bulge" and small spotlights in lower section... Grille was narrower and deeper, Trapezoidal shape. Retained the 'sport bar' to hold badge grille. Thick chrome strip above grille.
Side was nicely proportioned, looks to be a bigger car all over compared to V-Series. This model did not have 'vents' behind wheel arch.
Interior looked spatious, tan leather.
Looked VERY VERY nice! Like i said, not much to compare it too..
I don't know if i'm allowed to post the number plate (can't remember it all anyway).
I also drew up an EXTREMELY bodgy paint diagram to help you visualise what i'm saying... It'll be uploaded later.
Hopefully i'll see it again!

did it look anything like the drawing from MOTOR?
JazzaT
17-05-2005, 06:39 PM
the front, not really (thank god)
the back was fairly similar yes, but motor not 'spot on'... taillights are lower and extend onto the boot lid... also have thin clear blinkers/reverse.
was interesting to see they weren't LED... i thought they may have been.

any VE's doing the rounds would be all car bra'd up, so I would suggest it wasn't a VE.. sorry to burst your bubble.

OMG JazzaT. You could have been a rich man if you'd taken some happy snaps.
Then again, I tend to agree with ol'man Devil. With over 12 months to release, any VE on the roads would be covered up tighter than a duck's sphyncter.
I'm still interested in seeing your drawing though.

They will no doubt start to do some longer run testing ie country i remember when they were doing that before they exportrd the left hand drive monaro i spotted them they tow a little trailer9 motorbike size behind them to collect all the data etc and carry there lunches hahhaha but being a small trailer it doesnt affect economy tests as much so keep an eye out guys the ones i spotted were years ago and i was living in Broome heheheh

Poor guy JazzaT, you spent a bit of time drawing it in MS Paint too!
 That sonata does look quite nice.
At least if you did see one, or when you do, you'll give a good report! :)

i guess it's ok... that particular hyundai isn't released in aus yet... SOMEONE might be interested lol...The front end looks a lot like the VY to me, especially the lights. That's interesting considering Hyundai make a living ripping off the more expensive Euro car designs. I remember seeing a Jaguar on the freeway one afternoon and then a Hyundai Sonata pull alongside it in the same color. From behind it was a total ripoff. Cheeky Koreans.

Those "trailers" are very expensive peices of machinery, they use them to put varying loads on the car.

The front bar of that Sonata says BA Falcon to me. As well as a bit of VY Commodore with the shape of the head lights.

Australia's a big market for Hyundai so it makes sense to copy the cars that are selling well. The bonnet's got a bit of VZ in it as well.

It's got a bit of Liberty around the front and a bit of Vectra side-on I reckon.

don't forget that this is a global car... not released in australia yet, seeing this car and then going to the global website was the first i'd seen/heard of it.
the car itself is definately alot larger than the current (ugly) sonata, hence me mistaking it for a commo...
i hope it doesn't let me down, lol

There's a fair bit of Mazda6 influence in that...
http://www.mazda.com.au/articles/images/m6sedan_360_fr34.jpg
....obviously their headlights and grill are shaped differently, but the bottom of the front bar, and the shape of the rest of the car follow similar lines

hehe
When u think about it all these cars falcons, commies, accords, mazda etc all have features from each other. Its just the way car design seems to going, no individuality bar some bangle beemers (yuck)
