Great to see you are enjoying your car. keep that smile and enjoy. Tuning is easy when you know what you're doing.

Good effort - especially if you kept the MAF.
Seems a Workshop Tuner can get excellent results from them after all. :p

Congrats on the upgrade. You've taken your first step on a long path ;)
... and for those who like to say the man is arrogant, he isn't. But he won't waste his time standing in front of people talking shit. I've had nothing but a positive experience from that workshop, but perhaps that's because I am in IT, know I know nothing about cars, and just say "I want the car to X, how much will it cost" :)
You left Sam's with a maf

Contrary to popular belief, if you go to Sams and ask him - for an otherwise stock engine - "will I get more power from a MAFless vs a MAF tune?" - he will tell you it makes no difference, he can get just as much power from most cars either way.
However - once you start talking big cams, heads, strokers etc, then it will be MAFless all the way :D
Alexander - great result!! You are going to enjoy your car soooooo much more now! ;)
Cheers,
Beej

sounds good mate. just to be clear, the hp tune is the VCM suite right? if so, i understand it has a few features over ls1edit like being able to reflash if its corrupted or something. am i offtrack here?

Not off-track. It will recover from a communications failure. Ive flashed mine over 1000 times.

i guess what im getting at is, if holden or anything screws the tune or resets it, can it be reinstated without paying someone to do it again? can i reinstate it or will sams or whoever have to?

good question, I was about to ask the same thing. $1000 is alot of pocket money to fork out.

I own a few Ls1's and have never had Holden reflash them once. It is not something they do every service. If it happens though your tune is on file at Sams and can be relaoded very quickly.

Yes you can reflash over whatever Holden do to it. Its your car, its your VIN, so its all good.

Man I am thinking compared to $1500 for Mafless if you have a VZ $1k for a good tune is a bargain!
Edit: Sorry I see what you were getting at about having to pay for a reflash! To many afternoon beers! :kapow:

not a problem. What i've been reading and hearing $1000 is ok for a good tune. just wanted to know if for some stupid reason it had to redone and how much that would set me back. Prob got nothing to worry about but i can't vouch for every mechanic i'm likely to come across.
Most tuners would reflash you for free if Holden re-flashed your PCM to stock for some reason. If it kept happenning they might start hitting you up for $50 a time just to make you be more careful in future!! :D

so do tuners keep a data record of your exact tune, so they can jsut reflash?

Yep :)
They should. I know mine does and was free to re-flash back.
As far as I know, they keep your stock tune as well on file.
