Hi there,
Like the topic indicates, I need to know an insurance mob which is ready to cover hail damaged cars--obviously third party cover only. I bought a little Hyundai for my hand-brake and I got knocked back from my insurance company (AAMI). They would not even issue a third party cover for it :bash:
cheers

I dont know what reason they would have to not insure a car with hail damage? Did AAMI give you any reason why?

Probably just try your general insurers, NRMA, RACV/Q, GIO, FAI, Etc

This is my take on why the won't insure you.

A hail damaged car has already damaged panels and no insurance company will insure this (even thou the car is driveable etc ). What happens when you have a bingle ( i hope u don't ) and the panels are damaged and require replacing, they are not going to replace them with new panels because the old ones were already damaged. i don't know of any shop that sells hail damaged panels.
There is also the 3rd party thingy to think about. If the panels of a vehicle are damaged in any way, an insurer will not take the risk that the car is still structuely sound. (ie won't crumble the way it should, withstand certain level of force etc.) It cannot risk the thought of getting a claim for a vehicle that wasn't 100% free of damage.
A claim could go like this:
a car hits another car at 80kmph and the driver of the second vehicle was crippled. Car a (hail damage) driver has lost all use of his legs etc and now has a third party claim for heaps. It was later founf that the hail damage had weakened the cars structure and was a contributing factor to the excessive injuries sustain. Had the car panels been in not damaged the vehicle would have crumbled correctly and these injuries could have been avoided.

This is my GUESS and really if the car has a heap of haili damage or any damage you should get it repaired. Whether or not its just a crapper to run you around.
