Has any one here had their gen3 get hot. I had my car in for a service and the nice person that did the job forgot to plug the loom back in for the thermo fans. Not to mention F****D my air con. :bash: We then went shopping and when we slowed down to look for a park the temp went right up. Pulled up and poped the bonnet, seen some steam from around the bottom hose, coolant tank was all at the right level. shut the bonnet and called the dealer. I calmed down a bit and opened the bonnet and found the unpluged loom. I was able to limp back to the dealer where they checked the hose clamps and filled with new coolant. Sent home with them telling me it will be ok now, I thought BS. The next day we went out again, temp all ok found a park and went about our jobs. Came back and guess what a puddel of coolant was left under the car. Getting even more  . I've been given a VY SV8 for a loan car for 2 weeks until I can get back to Adelaide.

I am concerened that this may have caused more damage than a cracked radiator tank. Alloy heads don't take much to warp. They have had the car since sunday and it's now thursday and have not heard a word.

Any advise as I'm a little worried.

If it was me I'd drive it about for a few more weeks and see what happens, but make sure what happened is all WRITTEN DOWN by the dealer. I'd be suspicious that something might be damaged, but give them the benefit of the doubt first.

My wife has quite often towed horsefloat long distances with A/C going full belt in the middle of summer, then end up crawling thru traffic in Melbourne and we've NEVER seen the car go over it's normal operating temp. If you see high temps on a GENIII, I'd assume something is really wrong.

Rod.

Just talked to them and they said it cracked the radiator and that they would see what the charge would be or if the extended warranty will cover it. :bash: I told them that there is no way in hell that I'm paying a cent to fix their mechanics F**k up. I was told that they would hve to see what they can do. NFH.

Suxs big time when they stuff up and then try to get you to pay for the mistake, just mention Ray Martin etc that might suddenly change the minds of the powers that be

Good Luck

HAHA, Ray Martin is a bloody legend, and surely deserves his almost God-like status for getting higher powers to crack down on the scumbags operating dodgy businesses!
Anyways, yeah, don't let the dealer make u pay up for something some 16 year old apprentice on his first day on the job screwed up without any supervision! Yes, i am also very scared everytime i leave my keys with those incompetent mechanics...then again i think most mechanics are incompetent, not just the holden ones, but holden mechanics always seem to be the worst of the bunch! On my Gen 3, the temp gauge has never gone even close to half temp, and on the digital display it's only gone to 102 degrees c on a very hot day while i was hauling stuff, but usually sits on about 91-92 degrees.
Cheers

Just make sure you are polite to the dealer and they havent an excuse to be rude to you! Also, mention (nicely) that you know that this is a good dealership with a good reputation, and you would hate for a small problem like this to tarnish that reputation! sister-in-law works for the local current affairs program and they are "looking for stories on dodgey mechcanics", that sort of stuff!! they will be real nice to you :D
