Hmm .. might get my old engine :-)
I'll tell you in a few days how good a "reco" is. One of the same milage will be interesting. Not many VYI's would have as many K's as mine. I *hope* they sway model-for-model .. ie. VY->VY .. and I don't get a VX 225kw engine?

not good news - i thought holden would have fixed this problem seeing all the fixes that they had to do with engine knocking on the VX
Best of luck

I fairly sure we could end up with a vx motor in a vy im not sure of any difference between vx and vy motor i think exhaust and revised tune gave the extra 10kw's my vy had 82000ks on clock

i got a er 1 vy ss and its had a rebuild due to the "piston slap" but it never used oil.it still has a slight tick to it (6k)but i bit the bullet and got edit etc and it goes like a dream.mine had 35k on the clock when it got done
The symptoms described do not sound like piston slap - sounds like the engine has low oil pressure and has spun or blown a big end bearing - hence the new motor! Dazvyss you said the noise gets louder as you put load on the engine right?
Did it suddenly start making that noise? Has the engine ever ran out of oil or been very low on oil and had the oil light flash on when accelerating or cornering hard??
Cheers,
Beej

My engine had "wrist-pin noise" and the engine was exchanged. What would have been the issue there to negate a rebuild? Damage to the rods or something? I suspect it's just whether engines are available or if the dealer has time.
BTW: If anyone ends up with my old engine, I assure you it was well looked after. Other than the noise it was great.

Mine sounded like some sort of wrist pin noise cold starts were nice and quiet then you drive for say 5-10 mins and the knock would start to appear once the oil was warm at idle you could just hear it but if you held about 1200rpm you got a distinct diesel sound and a slight vibration unfortunatly ive only had the car for five weeks so I dont know to much about its history.

QUESTION???
If a HSV craps an engine, do they get a GEM replacement too? The more I think about my GEM exchange engine the more PO'd I am that it not a *real* factory replacement. But I only own an SV8 so I'm at the pauper end of the scale. If I owned a nice, high-spec SS I'd be even more PO'd .. if it was a HSV .. downright mad???

On a VY Clubsport the engine is the same as an SV8. Only differences (engine-wise) are intake, exhaust and tune. If it were a GTS, I don't think they'd just chuck a gem engine in it.

Also keep in mind that most of the difference between say 235kw - 255kw would lie in teh exhaust etc rather than the engine itself.
