There's a thread here about them, and I think guys have got some for half that in some cases. It seems the price can vary with day and mood.

thats pretty awesome.. If only I could afford to electroplate all the bits under the bonnet

So true.. I went to 3 different Holdens and got 3 Different price differences which varied about $20 a set..

you will pay about $110 - 120 usually a set..

What the split engine covers need, IMHO, is a bit across the front like the EFI 5.0 litre engine covers had.

The hsv ls2 covers would be my choice. Whether you could even get hold of them would be the problem.

What are you guys using to paint these, obviously it would need to be heat resistant.

Nidz
25-05-2005, 04:55 PM
I used normal auto enamel paint in a spray can.. you can get it from any K-Mart.. 3 coats + 1 coat of clear gloss.. No heat resistant paint needed.

just spray it on thin coats. more thin coats.

I just used normal auto enamel spray paint in a can too. I got mine from Supercheap. The brand was Power plus touch up paint. The colour is monza red. I did about 4 or 5 light coats. Then after it had dried I just rubbed some polish on them.

Just need to install the catch can I bought last week (it's a really professional-looking one in a bronze colour pretty close to Tungsten Mica), and a strut brace. :)

Edit: ..and I wouldn't mind a set of those billet oil/PS/overflow tank caps either. :)

Your Maf Pipe looks nuts!!

Thanks mate. It's a carbon-fibre job from CS Performance - mafless 4" from the airbox to the TB. Gets quite a few comments. :)

Does the fact that it's carbon fibre make a difference to performance/sound or is it just for looks???

Just for looks I guess. One advantage is it's 4" straight from the airbox to TB - there's no "maf eliminator" or anything....but that wouldn't make a huge difference. Heat-wise it feels about the same as a GTS pipe after a few runs.

It cost me $220 brand new, shipped from NZ with a fitting kit. So it was only $40 or so more than a GTS pipe would've cost me, and I like the uniqueness. :)

Cheers,

How about the no cover option? Ignition coils mount on the ends of the foot wells about level with the spark plugs.

My LS1 and below, my good old 5.0.

I still love my 5.0 engine bay the best :)

I used a high temp engine paint on the 5.0 to do the rockers and the engine covers.
Came up an absolute treat and only cost me about $25 and a few hours to do it all right :)

Engine covers for LS1 were not what I called cheap, $250 from ebay but never the less were supplied painted in the colour I wanted and I think look OK having the Chev badge molded in. I am happy enough with it, just might add a strut bar over the engine.

My guess... The white LS1 Cobra :p

Lol, the engine bay does look a little like a bath tub (no offense intended), however that thing would boogie hard with a done up LS1.

Love to see it in action.

I nearly bought one of those things a while ago seeing a few down at Shannons in Victoria, but found it a little impractical as a daily driver.

Nice weekender though :)

I've got a similar setup, used to power the rectic system for my garden, plants have never looked so good

Seriously though, you've got a sweet setup there

Looking at the photo, you've got a fair bit of dust etc laying around, do you normally keep the throttlebody covered with a plastic bag or something?

Yes usually there is a plastic bung in the TB and the EGR hole in the manifold. In this pic I had only just finished painting the manifold and bolting it back on.

Sorry in advance to the mod's for going even more off topic, but LS1 COBRA, just wondering if there is a site where I can follow your progress. I saw pics of your beast (and some fine machining and handywork) some time ago, and it looks awsome.

LOL!! now that you say spa, yep does look a bit like it :)

On a serious note though, I like it, the LS1 looks nice in that engine bay.

It must have been a bugger getting the extractors in there by the look of it.

They custom?

Also the exhaust? Are they the side pipe ones?

Would sound wicked if you got them on the side and is something I would have loved to do just out in front of the back wheels on mine like the V8 Super cars, but for legal reasons with the 4-door, I cannot do it for street use. :box:

I haven't been able to do much on the car lately since I've been busy with work for other people. I haven't got a site as such where I post progress pics but I've got a gallery over on the Club Cobra web page. I usually post a few update pics on there of either my car or what ever I'm working on.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I'm running working side pipes. I built the headers and side pipes from scratch. The side pipes are re packable and have cat converters inside them. The extractors were a bit of a chalenge to make but they worked out well. With the body on I can pull the whole exhaust system off including the headers in about 20 minutes. The LS1 is such a compact motor it makes working on it in a Cobra a breese. The plugs are all easy to get to and you can change them without special tools or skinned knuckles.

Hi Crisso,

It link was on page 3, post no #44 in here posted by LS1 Cobra. All you need to do is click on: "Mikes gallery on Club Cobra" within the post and it should bring it up.

You will see his car in there and quite a few pictures of the development.
