After reading many threads about cai I found that k&n do a complete intake kit from maf pipe to pod filter with heat shield so a mate of mine sold one to a customer with a vuss ute with extractors and full exhaust and did a series of dyno runs back to back and found the k&n set up good for 18rwkw's not bad I thought.

What cost is the Pod setup?

They are around the $400 mark of memory. They arn't a bad system, however I would be putting that money aside and get a Over Radiator Cold Air Intake. The one good thing with the K&N pod setup is that you are able to keep your MAF. So those who don't have tunes, or only have a maf tune don't require any further modifications. The figures claimed from the K&N setup seems to be a bit too high, as most MCAI 2 hole setups are getting same sorta power figures with before and after runs.

I agree and don't forget Tez that the Sureflo OTRCAI can be used with a maf. The pod filter setups are a lot better than standard but still don't get quite the gains of an OTR unit.

Says it all really. On a bog stock engine why would you bother with a $400 K&N setup when that money could go towards an edit.

I didn't know that the Sureflo OTR can be used with a maf :) hrmmm might check it out... Wouldn't mind one for the time being while I save up for the maf-less edit :)

To me to gain 18rwkw's for $400 is good value for money then comes the $880 maf edit and one thing Ive never understood is poeple Doubting dyno results 3 runs standard car average worked out then 3 runs with k&n and new average worked out doesnt get any more simplerthan that.

The best part is Tez you can use the same unit when you go mafless, all you have to do is take the maf out.

Trouble is, we've all seen that many dodgy manipulated dyno figures a lot of us are skepical to say the least. The true measure of any gain is how it actually goes.

Or even better, get both.

Just for completeness of info Mongy, I'd like to add that this is true pre VZ only. Thunder mentioned in his forum it would require a complete redesign to utilise a VZ MAF.

Yeah you find that the GTS pipe will help a bit, as the standard duct is narrow and flimsy. I use the VYII clubbie pipe, as its more adaptable with the MAF. But your on the right track, and its a cheap bolt on mod :)

Keep the HSV CAI and run the GTS pipe!!!
The HSV CAI is better than the MCAI especially if you do the 2 hole mod on it

It's basically a MCAI with that is closed off on top, not catching any hot air form the engine bay
Do a search for HSVCAI and you should find more info

Were you not advised in your other thread to keep
your HSV CAI rather than get the MCAI?
