Hi Guys
Just want to get some feedback on an experience that happened to me for the second time the other night.
Went to fill up my VYII SS ute (from empty) - filled tank up to first click, got back into car and started and the low fuel beep came on - guage was on empty! It took till the next day (about 55 klms) for the guage to go back up to where it should have been.
This is only second time this has happened. Last time was about 9 months ago - Holden looked at it and couldnt fault it!
Any ideas crew would be appreciaited...

Although i dont have any solutions, a similar thing happened to me recently.
Drove from here to Yass and filled up (evey last ml it would take)
The fuel gauge needle did not move for a while and then slowly crept up to nearly full after about half an hour. Stopped for a couple of hours and straight back up to full on restart.
Never happened since.

Assuming that you had your VYII brand new or still under warranty, there was a recall for fuel calibration on the VY's. NFI if you already had the calibration done.

Its a common problem mate, some mates of mine fuel guages will say they are still 1/4 full but run out of fuel :) There is a fix, well not sure if they consider it a proper fix but just get the cars software updated, as there were plenty of bugs in the instrument clusters.
I had the exatct problem mate.. I ran out of fuel and it told me i had 1/4 left.. Took it back to Holden.. They ran a software upgrade on it.. Still had issues so they replaced the whole module and it fixed it.. I recommend U take it back and get them to fix it..
Similiar thing happened to me, just the once. Filled up, needle stayed low and slowly crept up over about 10-15mins. Mines a series 1 VT so i guess it happens to heaps of models

Yeah its funny, my brothers VX did the same thing. He called me up going on about how his car won't start and this and that. First thing I said you ran out of fuel :P
Well after a while, he finally walked to the servo and bang it started :) also if you boys do run out of fuel i do advise replacing fuel filter as you would have sucked in any crap that could have been in the tank....

In addition to this other symptoms may include it reading something like 100km left and then when you stop the engine and then come back and restart it tells you there's only maybe 6km of fuel left.. Something goes haywire.. I guess an item that was somehow problematic yet didn't occur enough to warrant a recall.. *ahem gen3*...

ive got the same prob..never belive fuel gauge..i always run off the trip metre
The issues I had both effected the fuel gague and trip meter.. The module that reads both this information was out.. The Holden guys told me not to believe the trip meter due to the fact that it's an average of your speed/fuel usage. I was told the fuel gague is the most accurate way to tell but yeh.. Both were reading wrong. It's kind of unnerving when you gotta drive around for a week without knowing how much fuel ya got.. I was paranoid and kept topping up every few days till it got fixed..

Had my fuel MRI unit replaced at about 10K. But my fuel guage is always accurate! When it says zero I always get approx 55 litres in it (don't know why I cant get 70 litres in it - apparently that is reserve). But yes guage is always accurate - I feel sorry for those whose cars run out when it says they have fuel in it. Just a strange occurance that has happened twice now.

Sounds like Holden and Ford need to talk to each other about this - my XR6T did the same thing. Turned out it was a faulty fuel sender - replaced and no problem.

Yeah I know what you mean its a common problem with all cars, but I just think you shouldn't rely on it though. I know I fill up that I can do roughly around 500 km's on a tank, so I just monitor it in the back of my mind as well. :)

Well bugger me, I thought I was the only one who only got 300km out of a tank. My excuse is AWD and nearly 2000kg, what's yours?
My fuel guage stuffed up too on the weekend. Was empty and filled it up but the guage read empty for the next 200km. The empty warning kept going off each time I started. I reset the trip meter and it reset the fuel used to 0, but it kept the distance to empty as 0km till it fixed itself.
Might check with the dealer about the comp upgrade, mines a VYII.

Have got an edit dude (mafless) - did absolutely nothing to fuel consumption!
Am lloking now at changing O2 sensors to see if that helps...
Have also got Pacie Tri-Y ceramic headers, hi-flow cats, dual 2.5 inch zorst mandrel bent, filter and Maf pipe. Also still got same fuel consumption...

You got any idea on yours? I am thinking I need to replace O2 sensors?

A mates VY S pack did the same thing... showed he had 1/4 tank fuel and the car just stopped dead.
The NRMA guy came out and the first thing he said was 'your out of fuel... typical holden driver calling me out for this... fill up with fuel next time'.
Even when we pointed out the fuel guage showed 1/4 full he was rather nasty about it!

My wagon has done all of the above!!!
I have yet to find a dealer who can actually get it right (about half a dozen attempts!!!!!)
It's had an MRI, numerous software updates  ,cluster etc.
It is little things like this that really let these cars down.
It is the 21st century for fksake and it seems Holden can't get something as simple as a fuel gauge to read accurately :(

My VX GTS fuel guage is always on MT when I start vehicle after its been parked overnight and always goes to correct postion after about 10 minutes driving. Had it checked at dealer but of course its always working when I take it in,so tey always say its ok.The trip meter ,and amount of fuel left modules etc always work so I dont stress and I am always aware of how much fuel i have used and I never let it go below quater tank anyway.I guess the fuel guage issue is more common than i thought.
