I generally dont read the newspapers. Dad has spare time at work though and reads them online. We were shocked when we realised there was no mention of the following article
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,15391027%255E13232,00.html
Holden has got it right, writes Robert Wilson, with a Clubsport V8 that will win hearts and minds. It could be remembered as the best of a breed

When the history of the VT-VZ Commodore is finally written, after thousands of hours of beery debate in pubs from coast to coast, the LS2 Clubsport R8 stands a strong chance of being nominated as the ultimate version of the series. Like King Kong it's a beast, but one that inspires affection. And like the movie it may well be fondly remembered long after it has become obsolete.
Wouldnt the latest always be generally seen as the greatest and best in its series?
For example the VS would be the best out of the VN-VS series.

Actually no.
The HSV VN Clubsport is more highly sought after than VP/R/S (for one reason or another).
Factors come into play such as weight, styling, mechanicals etc etc etc.

Give me an R8 with Harrop brakes, the good coulson seats and the previous GTO 18" wheels in impulse... in a manual.
The seats are such a let down over what they used to be... Was the VY the last HSV with decent seats??

I took one for a test drive yesterday (a manual) and I must say I was very impressed. The thing had quite a bit of torque.
It was quiet in the cabin so I think a nice set of headers in it,edit and diff gears would make it an evan better car.
Is it true they went back to 3.4 diff ratio? Definately needs 3.9s if thats so.
I rang up my insurance and it would only be $2500 a year for $66 k for a clubby for me.
I cant stop thinking about it
I love the seats and the brakes.
Suspention seems nice and tight also.

.
Only ? I know it's not a huge premium for a HSV ,but i couldn't help be a little disappointed at 2 and a half grand p/a in my 30's(or ya 40's :p ) with a decent record. Its funny how ,like the price of petrol, we have become desensitized on the price of insurance in Sydney.

VN Clubsport costs about 2 grand more than a VN SS (10-12 grand) with an exact same engine and pretty much exact same go. I dont see slightly how could a VN SS be anywhere better (let alone worth more or sought after) than a VS Clubsport. If you think that a VN goes harder than a VS then think again, VN has no ABS, no air bags, shit suspension to name a few...
Like other have said, a newer model will always dominate an older model.

....and so it goes on.... IMO a VN SS is no better than a VN Exec V8 worth $2-5 grand (Other than different cloth on the seats, ugly 15" alloys, a Calais steering wheel, spoiler, a bit more plastic hanging off the bottom and a couple of stickers). Therefore one could draw the conclusion that a VN Clubsport is also little better than a sub $5K VN Exec V8 :)
At least VT onwards the SS actually differed a little more from the Exec V8.
Back on topic... 90% of sane people would choose a VZ Clubsport LS2 over any previous model wouldnt they?

MAVSS is correct. An ORIGINAL VN Clubsport is indeed a sought after model. The reason being, there were very few produced, compared to later models,so they are rare. They were lighter (in weight) than some other models, so performed quite well. They were also the first of the breed (Clubsport), so I guess you could say that they are seen as somewhat of a classic, amongst HSV enthusiasts. Cheers, Pickles.

Let's see, over 9,000 members, over $66k, only about half would be regular posters, then round it out, here's my contribution

On the topic of classics which LS1 HSV's do people on here think would go down as a classic besides the GTS's of course anyone think the Clubbys would become a classic. I just ask this cause I'm thinking about becoming one of those old grandads cruising around in a mint VTII Clubby. Just wondering if it would have the same effect when you see an old grandad or granny driving around in a mint kingswood or torana.
Yeah i think it would have that effect. I think it would compare like with the old fords with the GT's having the whoa! factor, but the GTHO having the  factor. Non the less of course the GT's still turns heads, not as much as a mint GTHO but still has the attention.
So i think its clear to say that a mint Clubbie in 30yrs would be just sweet!
And i think the VX series HSV's had just enough aggresive stance to scare the person in front of u :D, whereas the VY seems to make people wet their pants  and the VT is something that just looks sexy

It would be interesting to see how the interior plastics hold up in 30 years time though.
