View Full Version : VY Fuel Guage calibration recall problems

I've just got back from a quick trip from Sydney to Melbourne and back and am not impressed.

Took the Maloo into get serviced last week pre-trip and was told that a recall for a recallibration for the fuel guage was needed, I just nodded ok not a problem thinking it was strange cause its always been quite accurate in the past.

So anyways we were blatting along Thursday night on the way down got to Albury with the fuel guage on half a tank and the trip computers telling me I've to 350k's to go, 10 mins later the low fuel warning comes on and I'm down to 35k's till empty and dropping fast, wifes not happy as its like 10pm in the middle of nowhere but luckily we find some fuel and continue on.

Took some notice of it on the way home today, all ok till half tank with 300k's to go on the trip computer and then things go haywire with the guage again, filled up at Goulburn with a 1/4 of a tank left on the guage and 120k's left on the trip and the thing took 67 litres into a 70l tank

Anyway, I'm not too happy as it was good before the goons at the dealership got to it. Anyone else had this recall completed on their vehicle with similar results?

G'day,
I too have found the recall for the VY fuel gauge to be a total disaster. Before the update mine was reasonably accurate & afterwards it was all over the place. I mainly look at the Lt/100km page & pre-recall it was within +/- 0.5Lt. Post recall it was as far as 5lt/100km’s out.

To cut a long story short after 4 visits to the dealer to have this addressed they eventually reset it back to it’s pre-recall spec & now I'm happy again.

The only negative of this (apart from all the wasted time waiting at the dealer) is that the car thinks it's got a 60Lt tank instead of a 75Lt in terms of the low fuel warnings, so at least I get plenty of warning when it needs a drink.

cheers. :)

With my VYI SV8 I had the recalibration done as a "just in case" even though I thought it was quite accurate. Fortunately, after the recall it basically didn't seem any different, which was fine as the gauge went down linearly and my litres/100km figures from the pump always tallied closely with the trip computer.

However, my VZ SS has a similar problem to the one you describe. It will get well over 300km with the gauge reading half full and then suddenly plummet with the second half of the tank (according to the gauge) giving me less than 100kms. Annoying! :bash:

That is exactly what mine does. At least I reset the trip metre after every fill so it's not all that bad, now that I know when the low fuel warning comes on, I've used 60lt's !!!

I suppose it could be like my brother's VX II Spack which ran out of fuel with the gauge showing between 1/2 & 1/4E !!!

cheers. :)
