Gday All,
I have a problem... my car '04 VY2 R8 M6 Clubsport.
I was sitting at trafic lights last nyt, on green i put the car in 1st to drive off but my foot slipped of the clutch..(was lighting me smoke... no burnouts or launches) so the car jumps forward quite violently and stalls..i put the clutch in again and back to neutral and start her up..no worrries.. but when i go to select gear it wont! so i rolled it to the roadside... pumped clutch etc.. no go! just wont go into any gear while the car is running..yet when i turn the engine off..it will select the gears..it wont while the engines running?! plus the clutch has gone quite hard when u press it... any ideas whats happened to my gearbox/clutch ?? had it towed back home will tow to dealer on monday.. hopefully watever it is will be repaired under warranty. and hope its nothin major..
Anyone had this prob or know what might be the problem?
Thanks for any help in advance..
Shane

I had a very similar thing happen during an outing at WSID. Couldn't change into gear whilst running, but turn it off and you could select gears (although felt much stiffer than normal). If you used a lot of force the gears could be selected when running.
I'm not sure exactly what my problem was (but it is heat related), but it was explained to me by Plan B, maybe send him a PM and I'm sure he'll explain it to you.
You may find your car is perfectly drivable now, after sitting overnight for everything to cool down. It would be surprising for it to happen though without some spirited driving.

last time that happened in my Pulsar, it was a dead clutch. Hopefully yours isnt so serious.

sounds like one of your pressure lines to the plates has a leak/gone. or maybe the reverse lockout has moves ... tried selecting more than 1 gear ????

sounds like a dead clutch........
I would put money on a clutch disk that has seperated from one or both sets of linings. I hope im wrong though for your sake.

It should most certainly be covered under warranty still.

Ok..i got my car back this afternoon... went to pick it up and the HSV Workshop Manager went over the problem with me... it was a "failed" slave cylinder that stuffed out! they replace it under warranty and they also put in a new cllutch kit..although he said the old one would have worked fine for another 20ks or so...cars just done 21ks... so all in all bloody happy! and impressed with the great service and didnt cost me a thing...had a 2005 Calais for a loaner as well for a couple of days...!
Thanks for the replys guys...
Cheers

It's a good feeling that you've got it all sorted and I get a little kick out of being right on a hunch for a change. I wanted to post something about it but since I'm not a technical poster or mechanic I thought the right thing to do was let the experts comment first.
The great thing about this forum is when something goes wrong you know you're not the only one it's happened to before which stops you from freaking out too much :) Glad to hear everything is okay.

So was it one of those things that was going to happen at that time or soon after anyway or did it fail because of you slipping your foot off the clutch?
See, smoking is bad for you.;):p

Yea..smoking is very bad for you...it leads to slave cylinder n clutch failures!
They said it would have happened sooner or later..as it was worn more than normal..he said he was quite surprised its happened so early..hes done a couple more but they were on cars driven over 50ks... the shock of the clutch slip jus made it fail abit earlier i think!
cheers
shane.
