If you disconnect the battery a few times, change O2 sensors, start car and then car runs like a pig and wont idle, drive it, shut it down and the next time it starts it runs normal again, would it drop the program from the ECU to a default setting.
I have a HSV GTS 300 TT with a chipped ecu and a piggybacked Unichip.
Why I ask is that I have had the car on two different dyno’s one produced figures of 522 hp and the other 524.8 hp. I then blew an inlet manifold and replaced it with a FAST inlet manifold, touched nothing else put it on the dyno yesterday and it produced 393.9 hp.
Tomorrow I will get it put on the original dyno and get them to see if it repeats the 393 hp before I get them to look why the big drop.
Anyone had any similar problems………….regards

You changed your manifold to a completely different one, but didn't get the PCM retuned to suit .... nuff said .... besides the fact you are using a Unichip that is.

Im guessing that was at the ingham car show?
I read on another forum that the dyno operater was a bit dodgey.
Maybe the reason?

this is the exact dyno i was have a bitch about
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=39925
its a load of crap this dyno. how can a car lose that much power. a manifold cant lose that much power on a twin turbo gts.
like i said his cars were doing good HP

I was at the show with my ute and the Green Supercharged VY S ute and got to see your runs, the same s**t happens every year. Even the S pack was off by a bit. Each year I've chucked mine on and the results get worse. Despite some computer problems during the week, my heads and cam job shouldn't have been handed 15 hp under the red "standard" Maloo (308hp) and the Black exhaust and edit VY SV8 (311hp) by 18 hp. The car ran the same as usual 240 rwkw during the week whilst trying to deal with the computer probs.
Call me stupid but I will be back next year and will expect to see a 300+ off their dyno readout to soothe my bruised pride, seen it everywhere else in the last 3 years. Thats my incentive!

Yeh i heard bout that show, there is alot of pissed of people, sounds like a shonky dyno operator in favour of maybe the cars he tuned or built ? i would be gettin everyone tog and writing a letter of complaint or have the dyno's calibration checked or run up on that dyno with an independant operator ?

Try and go out to do a quarter mile.
If your car runs the same top end mph you have nothing to worry about.

If it is the same person that has run the Dyno previously at the Ingham Car Show nothing he did would surprise me!

tis official that dyno operator is a mother f'in shonk.
went to leigh holmans today and spoke to the owner of the gts twin turbo. as seen in the pics from the show
and same conditions except hotter out side temperature and the car pulled 491 rwhp (car definately the same everything as ingham car show.)
so over night he gained 100rwhp. i know dynos can be out but thats rediculous.

Well, I took the GTS down to Leigh Holmans SVS first thing this morning and we put it straight on the dyno touched nothing, exhaust on and we got 460.3 hp. Then we took the exhaust off, the same set up as we ran at Ingham Saturday night and we got 491.5 hp. Now that’s a big difference to 393.9 hp.
Leigh advised me if he spends a little time on it checking it over he would have no problems reproducing 525 hp, considering the tune hasn’t been touched since Wild On Wheels in August 2004.
At the moment Leigh is looking at the LS1 Edit or equivalent for his business, so I’ve elected to leave the GTS as is till it arrives then I might even pick up a gain on 525 hp.
As for Townsville Mechanical Services dyno I can’t comment as I don’t know enough about dynos. However I do know of a lot of guy’s that are mysteriously under their normal hp numbers and others that get extremely high figures that can’t be reproduced on other dynos.
I even had a member of the dyno crew make a statement directly to us as we were taking the GTS off the dyno “525 hp my arse”. I mean it’s not unusual to cop mouthfuls like that, but it makes you wonder when they are the operators of the dyno.
I now know where I stand with Townsville Mechanical Services.

I learnt my lesson last year. This year i didnt even think about puttin my clubby on the dyno. Very strange those dyno operators.

I'm afraid alot of people came away with the impression that the dyno operator favoured his cars.
I tend to agree.
I've heard many a dodgy story of said operator.
But my run, 340hp with wheelspin, was pretty well spot on compared to my tuned run of 350hp on another dyno.
What I wasn't happy with, was that after saying they were going to run the cars up again that evening in the cooler air, they didn't. And then the final that was meant to be on sunday didn't happen either.
So those of us that ran up during the first session in the middle of the day, didn't get the chance to improve on it. Bah
Pretty ordinary effort by the dyno operators must say.

Sorry about the quality, regards

That looks very nice !
Best GTS I have seen.
If I were you I would put some Monaro Headlights on it too.
Would look sweet on a black GTS.
BTW. Nice TT Setup!!!

Yep, stunning car mate. Not sure if its been mentioned elsewhere on here but I believe it may have been recently featured in Street Machine? Really looked the part.
I'm sure a couple of guys on here are going to advise a change to your management away from the Unichip :D but your car is an absolute ripper.

Thanks boyz 4 the positive comments, as I said Leigh Holman is looking at one of the ecu programmers so I will be changing the current system when he brings it on line. [Which one’s the best ? in your opinion]
I’ll also be staying from the Ingham Car show dyno while it’s supplied and operated by Townsville Mechanical Services.
Sorry about the pic quality I think the cameras on its way out. If I get some good full car pic’s I’ll post them up.

Ingham car show fantastic event, how good were the police and town folk with the street parade, almost forgot about everybody’s pride and joy on display, magic.
How about the dyno it seams to me its been a bone of contention for some time, lets leave the he said she said stuff aside and get a fully independent operator up… say from Brisbane, for instance no strings attached put an add in the paper or the like asking for expressions of interest, don’t pick the cheapest or the dearest for that matter, but more importantly somebody fully independent were all will feel they get a fair crack, and more importantly every one will then compare there cars on a given day on a fully unfamiliar machine and operator.
It will then not mater if your hp is down or up more importantly who has more grunt on the day. :booty:
Just to clear some stuff up. The dyno was Bob Hawkins previous Dyno. It has recently been recalibrated by Dyno Dynamics to within 2%. All runs were conducted without bias.
Anyone who knows anything about dyno's would also know that when a Dyno Dynamics machine is in shootout mode thats it. There is no playing with settings, what you see is what you get. Wheelspin on rollers can dramatically affect a reading as can Inghams ethanol enhance fuel. There is no way anyone can say for sure if there was something specific that affected the reading, however, you can be sure the dyno is calibrated, and as it was in shootout mode could not have been "adjusted".

What about how the individual vehicles were strapped down onto the dyno bed..........This can and does have an influence on the RWKW figure...... :(

Good point spiv, and also i have had a car on 2 diff dyno dyanmics dyno's of a few days of each other and both run in shoot out mode and there was a 30kw diff

I saw a temp sensor on the bottom of the air box (hot) and then in the top of an air box affect a dyno run over 30rwkw in shootout mode. It wasnt a competition so there was no dodgy stuff going on, rather the temp sensor moved just proir to the run and the operator didnt notice.
Dyno operators can fudge figures easily. I dont even own a dyno and I know how some do it. Im sure the dyno owners know a heap more tricks than me.

Hmmm.......TMS posted in this thread.....first & only post as well. First time I've seen Peter post on this site...... looks like Tville has a "tittle tat" amongst it's members.
The tittle tat wouldnt be just one person. There has been so many phone calls this week from concerned people. "And some from here".

If the dyno was calibrated how do you explain the 132hp drop in power?? Same car on a different dyno the next week regained it.
Im told its the same dyno that showed a 40rwkw increase from just a CAI. We know thats not possible so maybe the operator needs some retraining as it cant be the hardware if its been calibrated recently......
I can see why they would be concerned. Its a very strange acting dyno.

.
Hold the horses jeesssst one minute Mr Voodoo… :thump: have you touched upon the possibility that a 40rwkw increase by the addition of a cai…is just within the bounds of possibilities ?..only just mind you..
Big kudos indeed to the engineers who designed a dyno to sit in an upright position while staying attached to the front of an LS1 as it crosses the traps at the far end of the quarter….as we all know this is were our new fangled otrcai’s are most effective……..why even the most sceptic amongst us must admire the dedication of the dyno Crew to extract such numbers from there labours

A pod filter? (It was called a CAI but im sure it was more of a HAI) With holes hacked in the guards too from what i saw.
No edit, zorst etc. Just the Pod filter.

Peter from Townsville Mechanical Services rang me last Monday and offered me the opportunity to put the GTS on his dyno next time I was in Townsville.
He also said at his cost he would then put it on Bob Hawkins dyno to check any difference between dyno’s.
I agreed to this and said I will be in Townsville on the weekend of Holden Day [25th & 26th June] and I will ring him first thing Saturday morning. :)
Should be a good weekend, dyno runs, Street Meet and Holden Day. :D

The arranged offer to redyno the GTS by T’vlle Mechanical Services was a non-event.
I arrived in Townsville and rang Peter at 8 o’clock Saturday morning and was told he would be to busy.
He asked if we could do it next time, it’s wasn’t my call so naturally I agreed but I think it’s probably best to just let things slide, I know what the car run’s and I have the proof from two other Dyno’s………..that’s life !!
