Well it rocked up in the letter box, had a quick flick. Maloo vs Tornado ... interestingly the Maloo trounced the crap out of the Tornado. Surprised me anyway...both pretty average over the 1/4 (14.2 vs 14.8)

But overall a pretty clear win to the Maloo in all respects.

Arn't the claimed figures by HSV for there new LS2 Maloo around the 13.2 mark. But yeah will be a interesting write up, good to see the HSV's are still on top not only by a small margine but by .6 of sec which is amazing :)

I havent fully read the article but it did make it clear getting off the line cleanly was hard in both cars.......for the right reasons.

but a (tested) 270kmh top speed for the Maloo..is NOT slow
can't think of any utes in the world that would be quicker than that :D

It is definitely the Tornado. There will be a test between the Typhoon (new, improved, now with non breaking clutch, updated ecu and 66% more manifold pressure than competing brands) in MOTOR is a few days (July Issue)

I wonder if FPV are going to redeem themselves? Micky T has been very quiet about this.........

It always concerns me when manufactures want to get their cars re-tested after being flogged by the competition, being proven that their hype was all crap. Will ford tinker with this one off special just to get the win? Hmmmm let's wait and see what the results show.

Just my oipinion but here in Syd we've come againsts many stock XR6-T's (even one F6), WRX's and S15's ... have test driven all as well, except an F6 ... and IMO in real world situations on the street, these cars are nothing but hype especially against an LS2 or late model LS1 (by the time they spool up, im gone "bye bye charlie" :lol: ) ... again just my observation and experience.

Like when you read mags raving on about the sound of an XR6-T's engine ... WTF, what sound??? Sounds like crap inside the car and even worse out.

Hey buddy not a fair call at all...I love the noise of the turbo inside my car and have been told its sounds awsome from the outside. I have had many a runs with LS1's & LS2's and find on average I will begin to pull from stock VTss's through to VZss's and even VT / VX clubbys (not always) but struggle against the VY2 clubbys and VZ clubbys but I wouldnt say killed by them and visa versa. It comes down to the driver and the car as all T's and SS's are not the same. My Gf's parents VXss struggles to keep up after second gear and from what alot of my mates tell me a few have had the privildge of running a F6 and were gob smacked at how quick it pulled away :eek: I have read a few stories like that on here even. But to be honest there all within a second of each other any ways stock so they all tend to get abit boring even a LS2......

I am still impressed with the F6 with the short experience I had with it. Let's see if MOTOR can get mid 13's 0-400m in this 'new' typhoon. If it did better than the XR6T in the past tests then maybe I would of kept my order.

Sir if you regard performance as one area, and dont dissect the numbers, the overall win went to the Maloo. I didnt say it won every single thing they tested, and clear winner in all areas were your words not mine, and a combination of two of my sentences. In gear acceleration was the Tornados strength, but overall the judgement went to the Maloo for the LS2's flexibility. It surprised me, I really like the new Ford stuff. Im sure a quick edit might fix that, but same could be said of opening up the LS2's tune.

Since you've obviously read more closely than I have (I skipped odd bits and hit the conclusion) perhaps you can fill us in :) If the details of the article dont add up the conclusion Id be happy to be corrected...

That is wrong. I would say you haven't heard one gun it or your hearing is mucked (not saying it is). The XR6T sounds FANTASTIC from the outside, some people even think it sounds better than the xr8 which sounds great. The XR6T's exhaust note is dam loud and grunty. I say you should go and test drive one then get a mate to floor it past you, then you will know what people mean by the meayest 6 note around.

By the way i think you should be the last one complaining about engine noise after the muted GEN 3 note, im sure 80% of people on this holden forum would agree, at least deep down, that the gen 3's engine note is poor compared to the competors...its just lacks grunt..the VZ monaro is an improvment though, that sounds really nice.

Hey Guys...

As an owner of a Tornado ute, I say it may not be as quik as the Maloo off the line, but mine with the hardcover cetainly helps keep things in shape..

I had the choice of Maloo or Tornado, and the fact there are no Tornados' on the road, nor Tornado rip-offs appealed to me.
LS2 is a good thing, don't get me wrong..

As drive, it's great, heaps of torque and the 'mild' looks about it suit me down tho the ground.

It's got an edit ready to go in it, injectors sitting on the bench too..

All up, they are both great drives, I'm just fortunate to have had the choice of 2 great hay haulers..

Not wrong .. they sound crap .... why coz theyve got a turbo whistling all of a sudden the engine sounds different does it???? pleaseeeeeee! Ive test driven them and beatem them without any fuss ... and if you want to meet up too .. i got no prob in posting results! :booty:

I know of one guy who's done 4 or 5 (yes modified) ... but I know one guys who's done 1 on a full stock BA GT-P ... plus so many you read about on the Ford forums ...... It's such a major issue Ford is turning the tune down on the XR6T coz the rear end is so crap! ... So dont go telling me about how great these cars are ...When the hidden reality is they're having their fair share if not more of problems.

Mate, I had a bog stock BA ute... No Turbo, no nothing special, and the diff got replaced in that. It's a fault period, not just a fault with the turbs.. Apparently they have changed supplier, and the probs are gone in the MKII models.. We'll c tho..

Reading the review the Tornado seemed to have quite practical useable power where the LS2 needed to be dropped back a couple of cogs. It's good to have alternatives.

No it isn't 'just because it has a turbo whistle'. It actully has a completely different twin exhaust system on the T's comapred to the NA's..

exactly, it aint easy fighting here but i aint going down without my point of view. Its cool that you guys like your cars but when somone goes around stating untrue facts about the XR6T such as ther enever running and that they sound crap..im going to defend it with all i have got as i know this is not true.

mmm....lucky I have some Ribena handy otherwise it would have been a holiday. I have no problem with your opinion, that is fine, however personal insults are out. I too saw the Turbo running at Calder on friday, in fact turbo's plural!
Coupe is also lucky not to be holidaying for a bit of baiting.
It may be a Holden/LS1 forum but just because the badge is blue on the car does not mean they have any less reason to be here.
