hi guys im tinkering with the idea of adding a new car to the household. As u can c from the title its between those 2. They are very similir in price wat im wondering is what the exact differnce between the two, which is the better deal and which is going to offer the better resale value?? Im thinking of going the alloytec route if i go the calias.
Thanks in advance for any posts!!!

performance wise, go the SS. Luxury wise and if you want something a little less common, go the Calais.

I would suggest the SS...only the Calais if you tick the V8 option :D

I agree :D but this would bump up the price of the Calais significantly

The SS looks better, has better leather seats, sounds better, has 15kw more in V8 form and handles better, The Calais has a better stereo. Take your pick.

Calais is only available in auto.

Hmmm, if I had the money I would go a Calais but thats personal preference.
I saw a Silver Calais with HBD J Series wheels, Sunroof and PBR Brakes and it looked mint, would have been over $60k at least though.

Calais any day, but only if you buy the V8.

If the choices are V6 Calais or SS, I'd go the SS.

Better stereo, are you serious? God id hate to think what you get in the SS then, in our V8 VZ Calais its rubbish.

But yeah i think the calais's look pretty tough, ours is odyssey mica.

Dont the Calais's still have self leveling Air Suspension standard still?

Mine sure doesn't.

I thought it was only the Caprice that got self levelling standard.
Just because I thought something doesn't make it true, but that rings a bell.

SS for sure! Option it with Leather and climate and you practically have all the Calais features.

Other factors to consider:

- Insurance (undoubtedly cheaper for a Calais. Certainly was for me).
- Theft and vandalism (keyings, stolen rims etc... all much more common on the SS)
- Sleeper effect (basically - the Calais is one, SS isn't :D).

Those reasons, plus the huge amount of extras you get in the Calais (VX) over the SS is what made me pick it. :)

Cheers,

Genuine question (I haven't kept up with VZ level equipment specs), but does the SS come with:

- Memory seats
- Dual zone climate control
- Triple window cluster
- Rear parking sensors
- 10 speaker system
- Priority keys
- A million interior lights :D
- The better Roadside assistance package with free accommodation etc...
- Boot net

It's the little things in my opinion. Even though my mate's VY SS has leather and my VX Calais only has velour, the SS certainly feels a lot more "pov spec". ;)

I'll admit the gap between SS and Calais was certainly a lot larger back in the VX and early VY days.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Calais also gets ESP & Active Select in the 190kw V6

If you could stretch the dollars a bit more you could go the Statesman International (about $3,500 more than Calais RRP)

better resale value than a Calais ?
