Does anyone remember the link for that website that told you how to run in a car properly?

It was written by a guy that raced motorbikes, but can't remember for the life of me what the web address was.

Had pics of pistons that were run in hard, and run in soft.

Please help!

I've read most of this and it *kind of* makes sense, but I find it odd that basically ALL manufacturers of internal combustion engines specifically instruct to NOT "abuse" (loose term that) an engine within the first few thousand kilometres? If this wasn't the case, aren't they cutting their own throats? Or are they betting on the fact that most warranties will expire before the engine starts to degrade because of poor run-in (eg: excessive oil consumption?) Do they just think that the average person can't handle two instructions:
1. Wait until the engine warms up
2. Fang it
.. so they replace with one?
1. Don't fang it.

When my SV8 was new I did vary speeds and whanot, but I never fanged it. The engine ended up very free, powerful (without dyno sheets :-( ) and never used oil in 80,000km. Just a fluke??

Would this meant that ex-cop cars should all run great!! :-)

BTW: Showing my low-tech experience .. are these engines (LS1s in Holdens) initially run-in to bed in the cams BEFORE the customer gets them? I'm assuming that even with fancy-pants roller cams and whatnot the cam still needs to be bedded in? Wouldn't this defeat a lot of this initial run-in concept??

Thanks,
Rod.

Rod I ran my engine in as well - I did basically things you did and mine did end up nice and free and in words of my tuner "this engine has no right to be putting out 240rwkw without headers".

So who knows but IMHO there must be something to it.

MY05 Impreza WRX Hatch.

Went for a drive in one, and they piss all over the ute in terms of handling.

Still nice and fast, comfortable, plenty of leg room (i\'m 6\'1\"), and my dog now no longer has to live under the hard cover.

And holdens build quality and work ethic doesn\'t really do it for me anymore.

The ute is still up for sale too....

I\'m tipping it will have turbo back zorst from ET, ECUTEK 1.5, and GFB Stealth FX BOV done within the first week :)

And yes, will be getting ECUTEK at S&J, unless Tuna does them too....
