Well I finally did the 2 hole mod and replaced the standard filter with a K & N. Very pleased with the new induction roar and its seems to have given a nice lift in mid to low range power and torque. Next is cat backs, extractors, diff change and mafless edit.
Thanks to all that gave advice and a big thanks to VYMALOO for the mcai and some other helpful tips.
Also got the car booked in for a cold start as the engine is rather noisy as its nearing 100k mark
Cheers

Well done, any pics?

Nah I didn't even take any pics. I actually found out mine was the box with 2 intake pipes running out of it. there was a lot of swearing, but after taking out the headlight the pipe came out.
I actually used the pipe that came from the inlet that runs down behind the front bar to join the mcai to the airbox, but i chamfered the cut and angled it downwards to try to pick up most of the air as it is forced up. then sealed it all off with plumbers glue.
Also noticed that the exhaust note has changed from this mod to a less than desirable note. Maybe the computer is learning what dto do with all this new air
Anyone else noticed this after the mod?
Will take some pics soon.
Cheers

Well ill be damed. I did my second hole mod and K&N today as well. :)
I did the MCAI awhile ago with the stock exhaust, and yes it changes the exhaust sound too a deeper gurgle i found.
Non the less today i was bothered to open up the second hole and put some new piping in to connect and add a K&N filter. I already have cats back exhaust and with this the car has changed alot. Before the intake mods today, the car seemed to struggle alot, seemed asthmatic compared to now. It revs alot cleaner and more freely with better throttle response. Best money ive spent to date. :D

Hi I did the 2 hole mod a while ago and found the roar nicer as well. I am thinking about doing the K&N filter now, but I don't know what to expect.
Also where is the cheapest place to buy the filter, all I can do up here is $139

Don't expect anything or you'll be disappointed.

I wouldn't bother doing the 2 hole CAI without getting a filter mate.. Go to the Uni filter website.. You can get the same pannel filter for like $72 mark which is as good as a K&N. Ya just gotta buy some Oil for extra $15. Then get bigger MAF pipe..

with a K&N u are lucky to pick up 1kw over a clean paper filter from what ive heard
Yeah true but whats the point in letting your engine breathe with more air if the filter is restricting the flow. It makes sense to get a high flow filter with this kind of setup. I have a whole setup Dual hole MCAI, GTS MAF and Uni filter and works a treat. With those mods alone on my Gen3 I pulled a healthy 207.3RWKW.

true i have a stock paper filter mcai two hole and a exhaust with tri Ys and i had 217rwkw before edit i asked mark to run it without filter and he told it would make a differnce to power

Are you guys sure you can feel a power difference? You sure its not just the louder induction noise which makes it feel faster.
Ive done the same mod to a couple of different vehicles and Ill be buggered if I can feel any difference SOTP. Induction noise is all that increases.
Either my pantsometer if stuffed or you guys have yours in shootout mode.
It's not a mod that you can feel the difference with. It simply allows more air to pass through the filter. The stock holden ones are bulky and clog up with junk from the intake. Getting a higher flow one will allow more airflow. It's the same principle that people take the mesh insert out of the MAF meter.. you might not feel more power gain but it might idle smoother. I'm the first to admit i'm not engine tech but I know what i've tested on my own cars in the past and does help.

Exactly! But read the first page of this thread. There are plenty who can "feel" it. ?????

Yep definatly an increase in power. Maybe not overall power but more mid range power and smoothness. Mines an A4 and it kicks back a bit smoother when the gas pedal is hit now.
Seems stronger through the low to mid range with less need to use the gas pedal.
Well i blew away a my99 wrx with 15 lb boost and full stainless exhaust off the lights and in a power run. Then owner was cut when i told him the only mod i had done was an airfilter :booty:

I reckon you are all tripping a bit - I couldnt even really notice an induction "roar" as you all claim (if it does - it is so mild) but pre mafless tune my SS made a fairly healthy 213rwkw so am happy with that.
I got heaps of noise out of mine.. I dunno how big the second hole you put in was but with 2 holes the size of the first one you get heaps more noise..
Good power figures.

MY induction roar was huge after the MCAI , but it was before i had a exhaust so it did sound like a v6

Yeah when I did my mod, i didn't bother making the second hole any bigger than what was there on the VX. So at the end of the day I have a 90mm hole and maybe a 60mm, seems to work well. Easy but great mod for anyone with a VT or VX, especially if you see the existing setup :)

Yer I did the mcai and 2 hole mod last thursday aswell, there is a deffinant difference in the feel of the car when the power is on, much smoother than before but not sure if any power gains have been made.
probably to small of an increase in power to notice, a dyno would prove it tho, would need a before and after run aswell.
In the end I am happy, thanks to the ppl on this site for the tech articles on how to install the setup.

My exhaust note was slightly deeper after the 2 hole
mod (that was with 2 x 90mm holes). I have since
fitted a unifilter sealed pod and this has made the
exhaust note even deeper again. That is with Tri-y
and 2.5 twin into single 3 catback.

:bash: u dont need to take the headlight out  looks like u did it the hard way.. i think that mod is the best for the amount of money you spend for it :D

I think you might find that the ones claiming a big
increase in induction noise are the ones with pre VY.
They are adding the whole VY intake, rather than
just adding a second hole to the existing intake.
Makes a big difference on the VT-VX models.
Probably also explains why some can feel the power
difference as well, I certainly could feel the difference.
Sure I saw 8-10rwkw on here from someone with a
VX.

Dont have to take the headlight out to remove the lower snorkel??? Sheez you must know something I dont, unless you mean a hacksaw blade and I can assure you it is quite a bit slower..

don't flame me but if the second hole mod doesn't do anything why is it a STANDARD MOD?
i've read here a few times that if you can get the AIR IN and OUT FASTER there are POWER GAINS, or am i thinking i can feel a few more k/ws and it is just the induction roar.
has there been any tests back to back?

I tested it out against my mates turbo jap spec mr2 which is running a high flow turbo, 15ps1, pod filter, mandrel stainless and he beat me ( at this stage ) but he came for a ride in my car with me and had been in the car prior to the 2 hole, k & n and he thought i put an exhaust on when i booted it.
It does sound very different.

Well i did and it was last wednesday at the cnr of carlise ave and great western hwy. It was silver and he had number plates plztry, so I did try  Loaded up the stall ( standard ) and i got the better of the launch.
He may have stuffed up off the start or with a gear change but thats his problem if he can't drive his car.
So as it stands i beat that wrex off the line. Not saying I will beat others with similar mods, but i beat this one fair and square.
