Spoke with the dealer again about dropping the oil/filter on my rebuilt engine at 1500km. They said they won't do it until 10,000km. Huh?! *WON'T* change oil, even if I pay for it. What's in it? [ other metal filings and whatnot? ]. Anyone else has this problem?

[ Probably doesn't matter anyway, the thing is using so much oil it won't need to be changed, it will just burn it all ... like an old Pommy car! ]

Yep, I bought the wagon way after the VZs were out. So I turn up for the "1500K wait while we doin nothin" and said so you going to change the oil? Nope. Did you change the oil during pre delivery? Nope Why would we do that. We'll I says, The car was built in April and delivered in November, under your own service intervals it should be serviced every 10K or 6 months which ever happens first, so did you do the oil change or not? Blank looks all round from the other side of the desk. Its about now the guy who sold me the car turns up, I give him the yarn, his face turns red and the oil change is done with the 1500K wait while we do nothin..

Which was a bit of luck because I was just about to launch into the "so what did you do during pre delivery" which would have been followed up with "that doesn't add up to the amount I paid in delivery costs, I want a refund"

I always change the oil in new cars at the first 'inspection' service. The Holden dealership is happy to do it (they don't charge labour!!), but when I picked up the missus new Astra a few weeks ago the salesman who delivered it gave me a 15min lecture about how "service is ok up to 15 000km so you really shouldn't do anything before then". I told him thanks, but I would prefer to change the oil and filter at 1500, at my own expense, and so he started again!! :bash: What a loser!

Yeah with our recently purchased new Astra I had the oil changed by the dealer @1,500 km's waiting till 15,000 is absolute B.S. :bash:

The last 3 new cars i've had have never had the oil changed at 1500km by Holden, sure they'd do it, but i'd have to pay full price for it. The 1500km is an inspection only and shouldn't be called a service at all.

In fact, I think that when we picked up/dropped off the AH Astra CDX that we just purchased, they called it "The 3000km Inspection".

Often easier (and cheaper) to just do it yourself, and save the hassle. They won't know.

I recommend the use of a forum sponsor to do the job...
1/ Its done right
2/ It will cost less than the apprentice

The alternative is to spend an easy 20 minutes and get your mitt's dirty ;) ..this will save you even more.....

As mentioned above the 1st Service by your Holden Dealer is no service at...even if it is free

It is my view the oil should be changed at 1500K

OK .. so the 1500km is actually just an inspection? I didn't realise that. I'll ask them nicely to change the oil at my expense ..

Its your car, so where do these morons get off telling you what you can and cant have! They amaze me, these so-called professionals! Inspection or service, it doesnt matter, you the customer want something done, end of story.

I find it amazing that when a CUSTOMER OFFERS TO PAY for an oil change a moron salesman or service manager tried to talk you out of it!! I dropped the Astra off this morning, and my service manager said "Yep, no probs". Fortunately for me my service manager is a LOT smarter than the sales guy I got stuck with.

They fix all the dents and stratches the delivery truck put on it. (true story.)

Got my 05 SV8 serviced at 3000 k's, asked if they change the oil, they answered no so I asked them to change it and there was no problems as I was paying for it, so no worries here in WA or at least Rockingham anyway.
