anyone had a squeeking noise (sounds like a bearing) on a cold start up from the belt area.
it just sounds like a squeek... squeek... squeek... that increases in frequency with the engine revs. Its not the belts as ive had them replace, and holden are dumbfounded with what it is

At 80000k I had to replace the both Tensioner pullies on the a/c belt,

I reckon youre right , just talking to a mate about this last night who mentioned the same thing
I have it when cold...lets hope its moisture on the belt considering its just been raining a fair bit
Its worth checking at any rate

Of course they are dumb-founded :D They arent mechanics! Could be moisture or bearings on pulleys. Take it to a real mechanic

When my belts squeal on any of my cars, I spray them with soapy water ,if it stops for a while I know its only dry dusty belts & or dirty pullies and not a bearing.

Maybe the pulleys are mis-aligned.
I had something similar and my dealer fixed it by re-alligning the pulleys (I think).
If you've spilt liquid on your belt, you can get a stick of wax and press it up against the belt while the engine is running. This gives it a wax coating and voile - no more squeak.

Mate i had the same problem and it turned out that it was the flat idle pulley
Just next to thealternator, Give it a little spray with WD40 and if it stops for a second then job done. About $30 from repco Or $40 for genuine.
Hope that helps.

They're heavy belts and do tend to slip a little in the morning even new.

Coolant leak is normally a good cause for the cold squeak, as opposed to the pulleys for hot squeak.
#1 culprit is the small coolant line directly under the throttle body. Run your fiinger under the hose/clamp and it'll be wet. Give the clamp a tighten and you should be right. ay as well do the others while you are there.
if youve had your balancer replaced make sure the bolt is still tight. ive seen this a couple of times with aftermarket balancers working their way off the crank slightly, you cant see it with ur eye, and this makes the same noise ur talking about due to missaligned pulleys

I've had quite a lot of success with that spray on belt grip stuff - speads a stick substance onto the grip-ribbed side of the pulleys, removes rubber squeaking and transmits more power to the driven pulleys.

I tend to agree with Brendan, I have had the same issues with squeaky belts vs coolant. I find that sprying some armor all or similar (water based) product will keep them hush hush for a while.
Just another one to throw into the pot- I had the same problem a while back and holden replaced the belt and later the tensioner to no avail. It sounded shocking, I thought it was a bearing too. I did a bit of searching and found there was fairly a common fault which im led to believe warranted a tech bulletin regarding belt alignment. There was a correction method of adding shims to power steering pump etc, I didnt use shims but moving my pwr steering pump by a mm or so did the job- now not a sound. It's a bit hit and miss to get it spot on but one move did the trick for me. Couldnt believe the difference a small adjustment made. The reason Ive been told the noise goes away when warm is the belt heats up ad becomes more flexible which makes sense.
Listen closely to where the sound is- I'd say alignment problem. Drivers side= play in the tensioner or pax side= misaligned power steering pulley. There a quite a few threads on this. Idler pulley was another common one misaligned. :bash:

The exact thing happened to mine for the 1st time the other day :) I'll have to take a look at that coolant line ...
