Does anyone know a place in Melbourne where you can get a full auto transmission fluid flush performed - that is with the fluid flush machine. Thanks!

ahh - try Fluidrive.

I think they do that, but give em a buzz.

There's one in Ivanhoe.

Amberley Autos in Dandenong can do a full auto flush - although I'm not 100% sure whether they do it themselves or send it out to get it done. Give them a ring 9793-1616.

and the autotrans fluid of choice atm is Transmax Z according to quite a few threads on the forum from memory you need at least 12l of fluid if you use a auto trans fluid flushing machine.

The workshop I used to work in had a trans flush machine and it would use approx 15-20 ltrs to get the oil totally flushed and cleaned

I did a complete flush not to long ago around 20,000kms and it used around 13L. On the weekend I just fitted tranny cooler, and while I was it I replaced the transmission filter. My question is that I removed the sump and clean that out etc, replaced filter but only took back 4 litres of fluid. I thought it would be around 5 litres for a simple filter change???

some of of your fluid would be still in your Torque converter

How do these Power Flush things work, is the old fluid that is being flushed out still travelling via the Filter whilst flushing is in progress or is it flushing unfiltered dirty fluid from the converter through the the trannie, or does it just flush the converter just a thought that it may cause problems rather than prevent if some crap gets caught up somewhere . Don't know how they work anyone know. I might just stick to the regular drop the pan and new filter and fluid but at regular intervals.

Tonner, yeah thats what I think mate. Well I will keep an eye on it for a couple of weeks, just level doesn't change much when hot or cold :)

Drewie: I was wondering the same thing to be honest mate. When I got it done, the mechanic attached the machine to the upper trans cooler line (not sure if the upper radiator plug is input or output, can someone clarify) and then obviously to loop is then created. Anything that is in the filter won't be removed with this sorta flush but this flush will ensure that the entire system is pumped out as the car is running during the process. The machine used was a Wynn's product, in which it pumped the old stuff out while putting the new fluid in. The reason why I drop the pan, was to replace the filter itself. Little did I know that there is a magnet thing in the pan to collect all the small bits of metal that might be in the transmission. I thought it was worth while doing, as my filter was never replaced previously.

When you dropped the pan Drewie, how much fluid do you normally put back in.

Upper trans cooler (ie top of the radiator) is the return line.

Mate any good mechanic can do it. I did mine through at mate at Taringa Mobil, in which only cost me $120 bucks including 14 litres of Castrol TQ Dexron III. Not sure where abouts in brissy you are Leatherman, but just ring around and see what prices you can get. Some boys say use the fully synthetic stuff, but honestly change ur tranny fuild every 40k or so then you will be set...

Raff when I installed my Trans cooler I used the upper hose to go into the cooler, but some boys are saying the lower line is the return... Meh not a huge worry, does the job but yeah I took temp readings with a laser thing and it was showing that the lower hose was warmer than the top... But just thinking about it though, trans could have maybe not been up to operating temp yet thus the return line would come out warmer than coming in as the radiator would have heated it up a bit more :P

I was told the top line is the return from a very reliable trans bloke who frequently builds tough as nuts auto's for many of the VIC forum members here. Just to clarify, the return line is that returning fluid to the trans box, not the cooler. Thus the above statement is correct the bottom hose should be warmer as that is coming FROM the box. You are correct in using the top hose tez, that would mean it runs box->factory cooler-->aftermarket cooler--> box........ which is the ideal method

Is the filter changed before or after a power flush, or is a power flush just and easy way of chenging the fluid without having to drop the trannie pan,
so they don't bother changing the filter?

Mate when I did mine, they didn't change the filter. But ideally I would drop the pan and then do the flush. The power flush, just flushes out the system and is then left as it. The tranny kit (filter / gasket) isn't cheap around $50 trade from Holden.

Ensure that you check your fluid after getting the flush or dropping the pan. Remember drive at least 25km and ensure that the car is on level ground with the engine still running when you check the level.... :)
