View Full Version : Dyno figures for Cross8 & Adventra?

Had my Cross8 on the dyno for the first time today (on a Dynamic Test Systems 4WD dyno). It managed 151.8awkw in completely stock form. I even put the stock air filter back in to get a base setting before any mods. Looks like the AWD/A4 combo sucks quite a bit of life out of it. Combined with nearly 2 tonne, it's no wonder it's a bit slow :( ...

If anyone else has put there AWD on a dyno, I would be interested in your results, including details of your mods.

Thanks in advance.

Ive had the avalanche on a dyno dynamics awd dyno in shoot out mode & it went 198.6awkw from memory . Thats in dead stock form. On a fairly cool day. That figure you quoted sounds a little low?????????

Add ten percent for shootout mode and then take away the difference in engine ratings and its close.

198 in normal would be about 180 ish from past experience and numbers on this forum.

I thought that the Avalanche had more KW then the Adventra so wouldn't the Avalanche have more power out put then the cross8 and Adventra?

Anyway if you take 10% of that it would come back to around the 180 mark.

180 ish for avalanche non-shootout mode
160 for adventura etc.. non-shootout mode

so figures are ok from what has been posted before.

Hope that clears that up. Was meant to read that Avalanche has more.

don't forget the the standard dyno dislaimer about different dyno's and different days etc................

And your's sounds a bit high  What is your claimed fwkw? 225fwkw vs 152awkw = 73kw difference (32% loss).

Actually, no sorry :bash: . If your Avalanche is 270 claimed at the flywheel, you are losing about 70kw as well. Sounds similar then.

There are some old dyno results of our Adventra (http://www.haroc.1337thing.com/ls1/Harrop/041202a_Adventra_LS112_Dyno.jpg) . It had the prototype intercooler fitted, but not connected. (Worst of both options, as the intercooler cores created a slight pressure drop and retained engine heak-soak, without extracting any heat). :(
We will take it back for another run ... hopefully get time in a couple of weeks. :)

Has anyone in canberra got a reliable awd dyno????????

The one I used is the only one I could find in town. What makes you think it isn't reliable?

No malice, its just my bro is a mechanic at a bike shop in canberra & he was saying there was only 1 awd dyno in canberra & they were shutting down. He is very straight shooting when it comes to workshop setups & the like. Ala every workshop should look like a touring car setup. But he has had some dealings with local dyno shops and has made some interesting observations. Just one of those naturally gifted trades people who see problems & issues easily where people like me have to find things the hard way. Im interested in getting a second opinion on the avalanche as i thought it was an interesting figure. But the vehicle does get up & boogey for a 2000kg wagon.

Also keep in mind that the altitude can put your power figures down in Canberra. For example, way back when drewbytes' wagon was near stock (MAFless-tune only), it made 228rwkw in Sydney and a few weeks later made 193rwkw at a dyno comp in Canberra. I've heard similar stories regarding horsepower heroes at the Nats. Could be wrong but it might be a possibility.

qikmik u r exactly right , i didnt even think of that affecting readings. I have seen as much as 20 hp difference between new tyres & worn tyres on a bronco the new ones sucked a bit of power out with the new tread depth. Done consistently with 2 new sets of tyres.

Maybe 150rwhp isn't that bad then? That was the point of my post I guess, to get some comparative figures.

I'm taking it back to the same place soon to see what difference my first lot of mods have made (K&N, 2-hole mod, HSV MAF pipe). On the GTech, it made about a 0.4sec improvement in 0-60mph time.

Then it's off to Sydney for a Sureflo 3.5" system!

Was back in for another dyno run today after fitting the HSV MAF pipe, K&N filter and 2-hole airbox mod. Got an extra 15kw (up from 152 to 167)! I thought that might be a bit high?

Anyone care to comment? Opinions welcome.

So my 220rwkw in Canberra is worth 250rwkw in Sydney :) I know where I will go to sell it then

Ala every workshop should look like a touring car setup.

After seeing Sam's workshop last weekend, I can confirm that they certainly ALL don't look like touring car workshops.

I did manage 215awkw on Sam's DynoLog dyno after a 3.5" Sureflo catback and MAF tune. Interestingly, most of the power gains were from the exhaust and not the tune. It sure goes better now. If only I could lose 400kg

Now your going to need some brakes to pull the beast up, it just shows that u dont have to do to much to get decent power out of these cars. There is nothing like whooping someones but with a 9x5 trailer on the back. Allthough i would hate to have to explain to a constable why he clocked my trailer doing 165km/h while overtaking someone
