Hi everyone - longtime reader, first time poster. Im from Wellington, New Zealand and i've got a VX2 15th Anniversary Clubsport, which I bought new in 2002. It's relatively un-modded, i've just put a redline filter in the factory airbox and put a full Di Filippo exhaust/extractors in place. It's put out 250rwkw on what we'd consider a high reading dyno over here, and 242rwkw on what we'd consider a low reading dyno, so i'm relatively happy with it, even though i'm considering my options for the future and am currently leaning towards an APS twin-turbo kit, but that's another story...

I do a lot of track and drag racing (i'm addicted!) and particularly for the track have decided to look at a set of intermediate/semi-slick tyres for it since i've got a spare set of rims the same size as the factory wheels. A friend of mine mentioned something i should check first, and I figured this would be the best place to ask, so getting to my question.....

if i'm doing hard cornering, etc. on semi slick/intermediate tyres, obviously much higher g-forces will be created. Will there be any issue with oil supply to my LS-1?

The friend that mentioned it was telling me a lot of the WRX's for example (mainly older models) that have been to trackdays here running intermediates had problems with the engine being starved of oil due to the g-forces being created and the oil not getting to where it should be. For obvious reasons I wanted to check before I go and put slicks on the car that i've got nothing to worry about.

Also since this is my first post, thank you to the mods/admins for making this great resource available and to those that contribute. I look forward to being a part of it!

Your car is standed, ie: oil pump incl. I was told a couple of yrs ago that the LS1 when at 5000rpm and over will pump 8 Lts of oil every 30 sec. your call !
Baffled sump, ported oilpump etc is insurance. good luck.

Dont worry your G forces wont be that much to worry even the slightest.
You might need a cooler though for the power stearing and a better brake set up and suspention if you havent got it already.
Race brake fluid also with high boiling point.
Good tyres can give you up to 2 seconds on your times I am told ;)

Just make sure when you are on the track that the oil level is always a little over full - Ie say 1/2 to 1 litre extra oil in the sump over the amount required to get a "full" reading on the dipstick. You should have no problem for with a fairly stock car in short (4-5 laps) supersprint type track work taking this approach.

As SV8VY said - a Power Steering cooler is a *must* for these cars (easy to make up and fit for around $120).

If you are planning to run in more serious open racing classes and/or do longer races (5-10 laps+), then baffled sumps and oil coolers start to become a really good idea. If the engine is ever out for any other reason then maybe look at a baffled sump at that time anyway.

For the tyres - there are a lot of good ones around, but have a look at the Dunlop D01J Formula "R" ("S" compound) tyre for serious track grip :D.

Cheers,
