Hey peoples just ready an interview with denny mooney in the herald sun and he was saying that the monaro will live on, but will not be like the current monaro, as he call the current car a two door commodore he said it will be a more corvette style, in the way it will be completely different from its partners in crime. it is set to be a challenger for the vette he feels more sportier, he also speaks about how holden is contemplating making a car to rival the BMW M5 using gm technology from all over

jsut thought u peoples might be interested THANK GOD THE MONARO LIVES!! :D

I wonder if that means it won't be a four-seater?

Still, sounds good...very good...and as for the Aussie M5 idea...*drool*

The GTS could be the car Mooney is referring too as a rival to the M5/M6

hmm...going strictly 2 seater like a vette might be a mistake. The 4 seat seems more practical. Out of interest - how many of you guys with Monaros need the extra seats from time to time?

Why not just give us a 2 seater as well :) hang the expense :bash:

i agree not good idea to take on the vette at all that will be the death of the monaro if they try that.

what they really wanted over there is what we already had a 4 door RWD car.

we want the 2 door version as we have a 4 door.

silly idea

I have 2 kids that use the back seats, well I have four kids but 2 of them are old enough to park their butts in their own cars, so I couldnt do without the 2 back seats, I think the way the monaro is now its gives us the best of both worlds, a great sports car  with the ability to transport a couple of anklebiters in comfort :)
I wonder how many others feel the same way?

I say bring on a rear/mid mount LS2 based Monaro. Could you imagine the purr of the Gen IV coming from behind you, lower center of gravity, a more balanced car.

Why dream, let's just believe.

Cheers,

Just BRING over the vette in larger numbers and better pricing.

I've got two boys, 3 and 1, have put two seats in the back of the Coupe so we can use it with them. Bugger all space in the boot so don't use it if we need to carry prams, bikes etc. etc. But doesn't rule out the use of it as a family car.

I'm pondering future Monaro ownership but it would have to be with four seats as we want to have kids in the next five years or so. Practicality dictates I'm more likely to simply buy an SS for that reason, though.

I am selfish, I have no kids. If it weighed and looked and performed good, count me in.

That would probarly mean LS7 :D :D :D

The Holden Monaro could become mightier when it emerges from the VE Commodore development program. It could become a rival to the Chevrolet Corvette.

The potential to take on America's classic King of the Hill sports car has emerged as Holden's product planners go back to basics for the Monaro successor.
"Really, the current Monaro is just a two-door Commodore," GM Holden chairman Denny Mooney says.

"There are other alternatives, still with VE architecture. We could do a real performance coupe.

"I'm not saying we want to do a Corvette, but it could be quite a different product."

News of the Corvette potential for the Monaro comes as other engineering chiefs at Holden talk about their ambitions for the brand.

Some are even keen to produce a Commodore to rival the BMW M5, using performance parts from the GM world.

Mooney has flagged the move for the Monaro, even though the car is not confirmed for showrooms either in Australia or in America, where it is sold as the Pontiac GTO.

He is more confident that Holden will have a new-generation Monaro as opportunities for the Australian mechanical package re-emerge, but is vague on the details.

It was previously suggested that hopes of a tie-up with GM's global product development were over, but Mooney denies the death of the international VE.

"I still think it is highly likely we will see rear-wheel-drive vehicles in North America with significant design input from our organisation. Our architecture is still being looked at very favourably," he says.

The future of the Monaro is tied to some degree with overseas developments, but Mooney won't be specific on US production potential or a continuation of the Pontiac GTO.

A final decision on the Monaro could come as late as the second half of next year. That would still give Holden time to fast-track the coupe.

"It will be in the next 12 months. Our vehicle development cycle is getting a lot shorter," Mooney says.

How'd the kids enjoy that run?

I haven't read the article, but does this mean the new Monaro will not be based around Commodore architecture?
