View Full Version : Which octane booster do you use?
Hi guys.
When I hit the strip I usually throw in a bottle of octane booster as a bit of insurance. I've been using Nulon Pro Strength mainly because it's cheap and readily available, but when I went to get some today I had a bit of trouble. Two Supercheaps were all out (and said they haven't had it for months), and the third had one bottle left. Looks like they're not stocking it anymore. :(
Is there anything as good or better for around the same money (under $20)? What do you guys use?
Edit: Did a search but didn't find anything recent or relevant. Cheers.
Cheers,
- Febs.

I myself use Nulons.
At $20 a pop i think its well priced. The label states it adds 7 points, and with 95% being the best available fuel in my town i use it on every fill.
Have only used Nulon Pro Strength, cant remember where I read it but when combined with BP Ultimate, it was the best CONSISTANT fuel to be used in street cars requiring 98 octane+. Independently tested against about 10 others. Back to availability, every BP servo where I am stocks Nulon products...... :) I add a bottle every second tank or so.

Only ever used Nulon pro strength, and that was before
they had 98 fuel up here. Is there really any need for
it if your car is tuned on 98 and that is the fuel you are
running?

I use the Nulon Pro Strength stuff on the odd occasion when I get a bad batch of fuel or was forced to fill up on 95-96RON stuff.
Im trying to find a local place where I can get some Sunoco or VP fuel for a reasonable price. The links below state that VP103 is only $70/20lts (which is much better value for money than the bottled octane boosters) although Im not sure who sells it that cheap in Vic.

For a whole day of drag racing, it's cheap insurance against the inevitible heatsoak you're bound to run into (I'm talking 20-30 runs in one day here). Small price to pay for peace of mind, IMO.
I don't think it's necessary for regular fills of 98RON though.

Ok, will keep that in mind if I finally get the chance
to get this on out to the strip :)

I agree with Febs here.......but use NF Nitro Race Formula in the Black Bottle whenever I hit the track..watch what you pay for this however as Auto-Barn asks $35.00, but it is obtainable form the speed shops..ie: Hard Core Performance Moss ST Slacks Creek at $25.00..and occasionally Supercheap at the same $25.00 and worth every penny. imho....when not available I use the above mentioned Nulon Pro Strength.

Thanks Mark, I saw your NF Nitro recommendation in another thread. Might try to find some before the next street meet.
Actually I've got some Autobarn 20% off vouchers. They help bring the pricing a bit closer to Supercheap.

Ive been using a little bit of Methol Benzine lately.
7-10 % of fuel.
You can buy a 40 litre drum at Green Goanna off Parramata Rd for $35 (I think)
People say its not good for the O2 sensors but I only used it a couple of times.

I used to use Nulon, but I now use Martini :D
If your in Melbourne you can get 4lt tins of Nulon from Autobarn in Epping for under $100- its the only way to buy the stuff, use only what you need should last ages.

Would it "go off" (once opened), I've read that 98 octane fuel starts to degrade after a couple of weeks???

Only when exposed to sunlight, keep the tin closed tight.

Do not allow PSO fluid to come in direct contact with sunlight. To do so will reduce product's effectiveness in minutes.
