View Full Version : Bright Coloured Monaros Get Hassled More?

Anyway I've finally ordered my VZ. Decided to go with Devil Yellow because I'm told the bright outstanding colours have better 2nd hand value when you finally sell it.

So I'm having dinner with my mate last night who used to own a bright yellow Mercedes SLK 230. He basically said it was a big mistake to get the yellow. It's a magnet for people who key the paint and thieves, but moreso he reckons the police hassled him a lot when he had his SLK because it "looked" like a hoons/revheads sort of car.

Perhaps I should have gone with a more conservative colour?

I'm wondering if any other Monaro owners can confirm what my mate said to me. It has been about 3 years since he sold his SLK, so maybe since then with more bright coloured cars on the road and a heap of other suped up cars like WRX's, bright Monaro's don't suffer from these acts of discrimination as much these days?

there will always be jealous low lives who cant do any better than to vandal cars they cant afford. a monaro stands out no matter what colour so dont think its an issue there.

as for the boys in blue, they are more interested in hotted up rice rockets as they are the 'typical' hoons

I have to agree with xcapee. Go with whatever colour you want. It's a lot of money so make sure you get the number one colour YOU want. As for low lifes, they can strike anywhere and they dont discriminate on colours. As for the boys in blue, most aren't interested unless you do something to make them interested, but occasionally you'll get some traffic nazi who doesn't care what colour your car is, just after a quick stat. There are bad apples on every branch. In the end it ain't your colour, just bad luck, or in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think the brighter colours do get a lot more attention. However, I don't think vandals will discriminate on colour. I had a black Integra VTiR, lowered on chome rims and the thing got keyed too many times :( vandals are out there and theres not much you can do to stop them. Just enjoy the car mate, thats whats important.

dont select color primarily for resale alone, if you have a choice buy it because you love it, stuff resale work out how much finance/fuel/rego/insurance/maintenance will cost over say 3-4 years (seriously, add up for each month) add a dash of depreciation then realise getting $2k more come resale seems a relatively trivial. If you want the yellow get the yellow i reckon.

I bought a VTII SS when they first came out and when "Tiger" was a new colour. Got hassled and keyed. Getting the passenger window smashed and the contents robbed was the last straw so I switched to boring Silver Calais. Haven't been hassled since.

Strange, I was never hassled in my Tiger SS... parked it in many a dodgy area on many occassions and not a mark on it. It also seemed to do the opposite to cops. Occassionally there's a booze bus not far from my home and a few times I've been waved in then waved away when I was pulling in for them to try and get the car behind me to come in. Tiger wasn't my fav choice of colour but when you buy 2nd hand sometimes you have to comprimise on the colour.

I've had my Yellow Devil GTO for about 18 months now, and I have never had any issues with the boys in blue (driven it in Canberra, Sydney, and Melbourne), or with vandals (although I am extremely careful about where it gets parked).

I say go the yellow, looks a treat on the coupes :)

When i had my devil yellow monaro i used to get hassled alot bye the cops, i copped about about 4 canaries in 3 months, i mean sure it was low, had 19's and host of other goodies, but the cops were relentless in trying to get it off the road. Now i have an 04 wrx sti which is a hi 11's daily driven street car, which is black has black wheels and tinted windows, and is a very sinister looking car on the road, but have not been hassled by the cops once and thats cruising around all the hotspots in Melb also.. I'm looking at geeting a GTO as well , and i love the yellow but will most probably go with either black or silver, as i feel i can get away with alot more from the authorities cos you don't stick out like a sore thumb. At the end of the day you buy what ever you want to buy as you have to live with it, not the vandals or the authorites.

I had 2 different WRX's over 6 years and got stopped by the cops for no particular reason so many times that I lost count. In the last 4 years I have been driving a Clubby R8 and just recently the Coupe 4 ... never been stopped in either !!

As for vandals, haven't had any problems to date, touch wood (or head), but I reckon any nice car, regardless of colour, is a target. Low lives don't discriminate, they will be jealous of your ride no matter what colour you get, just be careful where you leave it.

Post up some pics when it arrives !!

My Mrs use to drive the car around for work to all the major shopping centres in Sydney - Mt Druitt, Bankstown, Blacktown, Miranda, Liverpool etc. Talk about dodgy areas. Once at Bankstown she had a flyer put under the windscreen wiper. It read to the effect "Would you like to be paid to be interviewed. Call us on 040x xxx xxx to arrange a time at this shopping centre. The interview will take about half an hour". LMAO, I read the flyer as "tell us the next time you will be in Bankstown shopping centre and occupied for half an hour and we'll take your Tiger SS. Thanks"

Spot on! ... Low life’s won’t discriminate on colour … The Monaro stands out no matter what colour it is … As for the cops? Mine was Tursimo (pretty bright stand out colour IMO) and the only hassle I got from the boys in blue was 2 motorbike cops down @ the rocks telling me what a cool colour the car was and they loved it ... So no, I cant say I got hassled ... I’d think most coppers like the GM or Ford product .. especially Monaro’s.

Jealous pr#$% will scratch any car they can’t have ... I don’t think it’s just aimed at Monaro’s … Another good tip is invest in a good alarm system with external microwaves that sounds a warning if someone or something gets to close to the car … Most weaklings who scratch cars, heart rate is pumping fast before they do it … If the car they’re approaching goes off ... they shit and back off ... I’ve seen it happen (get the best laugh  ) … So I guess that’s something else you can consider as well.

End of the day pick the colour you like the best … because you will be looking at your beast everyday … don’t live in fear and let others dictate how you should spend you $

Cheers

Since getting the Monaro in its very distinctive Pulse red I can tell you I get ALOT more attention from everyone then I did in my Black VX SS.

I have allready had a number of Porsches try and race me, but that is probably not the kind of attention you are talking about :D

The only hassle I get from the boy's in blue is in admiration of the car so no probs there. Infact I have been pulled over a few times but have never booked for anything.

On the other note my car has been keyed along the bumper by some low life. I do take quite some care in where I leave the car.
