For those interested... Today I completed my first round of mods to my M6 SerieS III Monaro. Drove to Sydney from Canberra to get the mods done by those I decided were the best value for result after months of research on the forum.

Mods..

1) 2nd hole mod to MCai. ($0)
Didn't notice any real difference. Was good fun doing some mods myself and playing under the bonnet (I'm not mechanically MINDED). Sam from Sam's Performance told me that the 2nd hole mod isn't sufficient enough but must be better than one hole. :)

2) 3.9 rear diff change ($1100) - Had this installed by Differential and Mechanical in Phillip. The guys were great and did a sensational job. The diff change was surprisingly effective. Probably the best mod I did. Made 5th gear awesome and 6th gear more than useable. So good that I would even consider 4.11 next project.

3) Sureflow dual 2.5" stainless steel exhaust. Major dileema - Stainless v's mild. Longevity v's cost. figured that the car came out with stainless so for the extra $700 I would go stainless. Plus, is Mandrell bent rather than Press, looks heaps better, lasts forever, won't rust, and could always sell it if I put the stock one back on to sell it. Cost me $1490 for zorst, plus got he pre-cat pipes and also the stainless steel tips ($350 & $100 respectively).

4) Sam's Performance MAFLESS tune. Debated MAFLESS v MAF for so so long. But, life is short, it ain;t a dress rehearsal so thought, why not.
Was nervous when the Munro went on the dyno. Had just had the zorst fitted and didnt know what to expect.

164rwkw... appropriately disappointed. The power line wasn't smooth and the beast threw smoke from the exhaust....... ahhhh.

Sam, the laid back and reassuring man I found him to be... quickly assurred me that brand new exhausts tend to blow a bit of smoke. To his wisdom, after about 2 runs the smoke was gone. Sam told me that there wasn;t something right with the car. (Knock retard @ 18). Not sure why but he said environments can cause the stock programming to retard and stay that way for some time. The car was idling on the dyno for a good 10+ minutes before the first run, the electric fans running overtime, whilst Sam had to answer phone call after phone call. He is a busy man but hey that's a good thing, means his business is thriving and reputation is valid. Anyway, who knows why it ran so bad. I was quite happy with the way it ran before and after diff (cant vouch for zorst as was only on for 5km no WOT run before tune) and in hindsight, the increase after tune isn't monumental, ie, doesn;t feel consistent with the alleged increase from 164rwkw to my final tune of 224rwkw 300rwhp.

Anyway, that aside, the tune is great. The car feels snesational. Goes harder, sounds better and much more practical thanks to the increased torque and 3.9 diff.

The trip back to Canberra was fun. Was able to cruise back in 6th the whole way. Got 9.7L/100km which inlcuded some stop start bumper to bumper travel on the M5. Not bad considering whilst completely stock I got best of 10.0 Melbourne to Canberra and 9.9L/100km Canberra to Cootamundra.

All in all, for under $5000 I got a great sounding Munro withe better fuel economy, better final gearing and aprox 300fwkw.

Just to confirm my result, an LS2 Maloo with 4.11 diff went on dyno staright oafer and got a similar result. 297kw factory quoted and 300rwhp+ result. Just makes me ponder the potential of the LS2 when LS2 edit arrives and exhaust and etc etc. At least we all have something to look forward to.

Enjoy the ride. Life is not a dress rehearsal.

P.S. Nice to meet you Justice R8, and the owner of that cammed and tuned 1 tonner that was tuned prior to me, and the owner of that awesome Maloo. An enjoyable day.

P.P.S. The Mrs loved the zorst sound and power. Sign , sealed and delivered.

You mean 300RWHP ;) Probably closer too 360 - 370FWHP :D :hide: Can of worms there

Either way it cant be sneezed at! Enjoy!

370fwkw= 276fwkw. Am new to this so not sure what the conversion from rw to fw would be. Was told by somoene that RWHP is similar to FWKW. Anyone clarify this. Wasn't sure myself but when I saw a 297kw LS2 Maloo on the same dyno immediatley after pulling 300rwhp then 2 and 2 equalled 4 and the thoery seemed at least feasible. Regardless of what the conversion, algarithym, x over y minus 3.14 repaeater, my monaro made similar power to a 297fwkw, awesome looking Maloo. For $3500 worth of tune and zorst. $2500 if mild steel. Until LS2 edit arrives of course.

223 RWKW = 299RWHP (1.341 conversion factor) So in your case RWHP is pretty close too FWHP. There is no definitive equation to convert HP @ the wheels to Flywheel. Hence why I said it was a can o worms :) No digs at you mate. If its right tho I have 475FWKW

In the end.. the end result is my end result... how the car feels and how the car goes is hbow the car feels and how the car feels. I'm happy, think I got good value for money. Like you suggested, there is no way of knowing fwkw without actually pulling the thing out anf dyno it. Can only go on whta I've heard, what I saw and the LS2 straight after me. Hey, I'm happy regardless of figures, and we all know dynos mean little. Unfortunatley there is no drag strip in Canberra, gone thanks to politicians. I must one day make my way to Sydney WSID for a run. I'm sure it would be fun. What prep (remember my ignorance) do i need..ie hlmets, licence, tailshaft lopp, rego, Im being very broad here.

Helmet, long sleeves and pants. And a overflow bottle on your coolant surge tank. :)

All simple things which make it even more fun :D
