Gday
Im just wondering if anyone can tell me how hard it is to open up the standard VX SS cats are. Im a fan of doing things myself

It doesnt apear that hard, its it just as simple as getting an oxy, expanding the joints, removing them, banging the interior out and putting them back on?

banging the interior outMore like cutting the ends off to open them up to 2 1/2" and then welding new pipe and flanges in place.

That sounds like gutting cats which isnt wise to talk about on an open forum ;) As qikmik has said u can cut off the standard 2 1/4 pipes and attach 2 1/2 inch pipes. Any exhaust shop could do that and wouldnt cost the earth either.

hey mate
my impression wen ppl say they have \'opened\' cats is that they have cut off the 2 1/4 pipes leading into an out of the cats and replaced them with pipes the same size as the rest of there exhaust...therefore reducing restriction as much as possibe without buyin hi flow cats. \'busting\' out your cats internals however is highly illegal and can also make ur car sound like a heap of sh*t.
cheers

you have to trim the welded edge on the pipe going in and coming out, then pull the pipe piece inside out and slide the 2 1/2 pipe in did it my self when I build my exhaust system.

I got 242rwkw with the stock cam and cats on my car without opening them up. Then 255 with a cam. (albiet more torque) didnt feel restricted at all, the big difference was exhaust system fitted after the cats.
