View Full Version : Minor LS2 Mods = 48 RWKW

Guys,
I have heard CSV in Melbourne can add the following mods to a LS2 6ltr and have obtain the following stats;
CSV Header 10 rwkw
Custom CSV 3" S/Steel Dual Full exhaust system 12 rwkw
Calibrate Engine Management 20 rwkw.
They claim to have 'modified' a 6ltr GTO last month with the above and took it from 226rwkw to 268 rwkw.
Is this 'real' or does anyone have any 'comments' on CSV?

It couldn't be that hard to believe, normally CSV's work is very good.
If this is true, a 42rwkw gain is nice with those mods. :)

I wouldn't want to put a dual 3" on an un-opened car, you'd loose too much bottom end torque and that's what makes the LS2 so nice to drive.

CSV does most of my work and yes, workmanship is excellent.
Nothing gets done in that house without Peter's supervision or involvement.
The other thing to keep in mind is that they're one of the few shops still not using Shootout Mode.
What this means is that if you gained, lets say 20rwkw on his dyno, this figure will read at least 30rwkw on any other Shootout Dyno.
What I am saying is that they got a tuff dyno. No fancy numbers.
Oh, did I say consistent power too?
Only my sily opinion.
Cheers,

Since HPT LS2 is not commercially available yet I find calibration of engine management hard to believe. You sure you're not confusing it with the VZ 5.7L?
The other stuff does work, but those sort of gains unedited seem high to me. And Im a CSV customer myself! But, I could be wrong.

Is HPT the only option?

No. You can chip it or use a a Motec. I know Pete has vast experience with them. If that is the case, 260+ on a stock LS2 will leave us poor LS1 boys in the dust.
Perhaps we need another class - LS2 and LS1. Gonna make the classes very interesting at next years LS1 Nats.

Reading all the info on the forum here would suggest that ... and I'm with you in thinking dual 3" would be too big. But in the states (from their forums and commercial websites) 3" dual is the way to go with these LS2's. Also have spoken to a few shops that have been playing with exhaust systems on these cars and all recommend 3" dual. Many have said going to a 2 1/2" dual set up would be going backwards. The primarys are already 2 3/4" or 3" (still haven't measured myself, but get conflicting answers from others) from factory ... logic would tell you downsizing wouldn't be the way to go ... the LS2 has a marvelous top end rev, I wouldnt want to kill it up there by going smaller rather than larger.
All confusing, the jury is still out  , more results and concrete evidence by those who have upgraded their LS2 system would be great :)
But no one seems to want to post anything.
PS: or you could just boost it with a nice turbo kit :nyuk: and you would be guaranteed a dual 3" would work ... An LS2 GTO with boost, yes extremely tempting

Hi
CSV sound like they are on the money and that is what I would expect from an ls2 with those mods, however I wouldn't want twin 3" on a motor close to stock, I would rather something a little quieter and perhaps punchier down low.

Richard

I thought the LS2 tuning software was still in the "beta testing" stages

I had a complete stock LS2 system on for a short while, dual 3" into dual 2.5" into dual 2.25". It's the stepping down in size which I believe helps the LS2 make the torque down low. Great flow while the gas is hot close to the engine, and as slows down step down the size of the pipes. It really is a great factory system, mandrel bent too!

Did you notice any crimping at all on the primary pipes? I have seen it on a few LS2 systems ... I'ts only slight (was told they do it to choke them up a bit, could this be a detunning method? ) Saw it on the VZ Monaro system when I had it too.
Do you thing these slight crimps would cause much of a restriction? ... That is, would it be worth getting them fixed? (Don't know can they even be fixed?)

Very minor crimping just before the cats - I don't think it would have any effect.

Saw the GTO mods done.
-CSV short headers added to existing exhuast system and thouroughly tested to gauge effectiveness.
-Factory pipes from behind headers to before first muffler kept as they were 3 inch from factory.
-Twin 3 inch system all the way and then back on dyno (to call the system a masterpiece is an understatement. Has to be seen to be believed).
-second hole to airbox and K&N.
Went from 225rwkw to 246rwkw. There was NO edit done to this car as Pete had not recieved LS2 edit. He said it was very close.
Exhuast note sounded brilliant. Slight difference at idle and sensational wen on the loud peddle but not offensive or enough to get the wrong attention. Most of their stuff is ADR compliant or designed in that mind frame.

21 rwkw increase without an edit .... I like it!!! :D
Bring the edit ON!!!!! :nyuk: :burnout:

No torque drop was visible on dyno, infact their was a gain accross the spread (difficult to tell how significant-for me anyway). Cats were opened up for obvious reasons and original tips went back on. The system on this car had some pretty big crimps. Remember, this is a GTO and hence dual system on either side so gains may be slightly higher than sedan setup.
Given AFR's, Pete suggested an increase of 20oddrwkw with edit is not unreasonable. Final figures are only geustimates until fully researched and achieved and with the expertise of the tuners on the forum, not too big a stretch really. 260odd rwkw from exhuast and tune is huge. Your talking cam plus on an LS1.
Bring on the LS2!

Same here ... A tuner in Sydney told me when the edit becomes available (extractors/exhaust, CAI mod, & edit) ... to expect around 260 - 270 rwkw (on the conservative side) ... maybe even slightly more. :D
