Just wondering if anyone has a SX6 or the CX6, or anyone can tell me a genuine fuel consumption?
As anything you find different reviews on the internet, some deliberately manage high fuel consumption to bag the car, others manage extremely low consumptions as a talking point, overall we just want a genuine idea and I figured if someone here owned one that'd be a great place to start!

My brother is about to/or has just bought one. I'll ask him tomorrow and P.M. you if I have any news.

sweet!
We're looking at possibly buying one in the next few weeks but we're still a bit suss of the fuel consumption because we can only find figures for the V8 and even then everyone you talk to has a different figure because of the way they drive it, but we're just trying to get an idea how much the car uses in "city" driving as such, although I'd be driving it to and from work 5 days a week its a pretty smooth run on the freeways, but you need to factor in the times theres an accident and your stop start, or the times your late and its stop start ... or the time ... you get the idea!
Hey also let me know what model your brother has brought (if he has) because I'd be interested to see what he thinks of it! We've got an SV6 and we had a VZ SS for a few weeks (company cars) but we're trying not to compare the Adventra to the sedans!

I am interested too now they are finally arriving at dealers...
The V6 Adventra will be easier on the wallet than the V8, no question, but I am yet to see it's fuel consumption figures myself.
Those that were put off by the expense of a V8 will be glad of the new V6 version.
It will be interesting to see if buyers in this market now compare the AWD V6 Adventra with 6-cylinder AWD Territory?
The AWD V6 Adventra is $2000 cheaper to buy than an equivalent AWD Territory, so if economy is better as well, it will make a good case for a lot of buyers to seriously consider the Adventra now.
Adventra also doesn't have the bulk of the Territory which appeals to alot of buyers, especially women who find bulky SUV's hard to park and manouvre in tight spots.

The Adventra has a nice black interior not that green grey of the Terror.
Pity you can only get cloth seats on the base model (unlike the Terror which you can get cloth on any model).
I would never get a V8 as they don't have ESP let alone the fuel economy.

They really need to increase the size of the 3.6L to 3.8L's its too much car for too little engine. I can easily see 210 kw's and around 380 ish nm of torque with a capacity of 3.8L. The 3800 S/C would suite the V6 Adventra better than the 190kw Alloytec.

Although more power is never enough... I think the 190Kw will be enough for the people who will want one - others can get the V8. With the speed limits we have these days, for a family hack, who needs more ?
Other crossover vehicles of a similar type have less power (Volvo XC70 and so on...) - I still remember when I had a new VH SS which came with 126KW !!!
My LX6 "should" be here this week and as I do a fews kms (45k a year) I will be interested to see how much fuel it will use too...

One word ... overtaking !! After driving a V8 all the time getting in a V6 rental and then trying to overtake slower cars is damn scary. In a V8 you put your foot down and cruise past, in a V6 you are always thinking "come on, come on ... get past". You may not need it all the time, but it's nice to know it's there when you do :D

Well, yes that extra power for overtaking would be nice - I suppose you just get used to "planning" your overtaking. I have also learnt to be a bit more patient in my older years (now over 40 !).
Unfortunately I wouldn't get a V8 Adventra at present as they are a bit behind the times technology wise - no ESP and I won't buy another car without it !!!

Ahhh, patience ... something I am working on, figure I've got 12 years to figure it out  Fair enough though, as you say, if you plan your overtaking a V6 will be more than enough ... I just prefer the relaxed nature of the V8's, nothing is hard work, nothing sounds like hard work. Just personal tastes I guess

i think one of the problems is that when you push the V6 it doesn't sound or feel (due to vibration) very nice (some seem better than others though) whereas a V8 just sounds right ! - My Turbodiesel X5 sounds smooth, quite throaty and V8 like from inside believe it or not !
I am sure that Holden haven't (and likely can't afford to) spent a cent on making the V6 sound good whereas some manufacturers spend millions on stuff like that. Audi and BMW etc. even spend a lot of time and money making switches "feel" good (consistent operational style, weighting and so on) but it does end up with a more high quality result - and price !!!

Hopefully it's all on time, never really believe the dealer until they tell you to come and pick it up do you !! Let us know your thoughts when you get it, especially how the six handles the weight, would be interested in your impressions.

I find a 6 has plenty of power for overtaking, I came from a 4cyl auto. You V8 boys are too spoilt.
I used to love the Skyline 3.0 Nissan. You could be doing 150 put your foot down and it would keep going hard over 180 with plenty of acceleration left for passing. So much so it got a bit addictive and nearly killed my self passing a few 4WD with caravans at 180Km in S.A on the way to Port Augusta. Ever since then I take my time.

ours should be done by this time next week
We had to go down to a SX6 due to finance. The car has to be valued at $40 000 or under, so Holden kindly wrote the sale price as $40 000 on an SX6 but werent prepaired to go that low on a CX6!
To make up for it we got the sunroof and fog light package installed
However I have also organised for a leather wheel to be sent to me, which should arrive any day now, and am working on the mirrors (I want the half body colour half black like CX6 and LX6/8 has) and a dash as the SX6 is black and boring.
If I can get these replaced then I'll be happy with the car!

Hi guys,
This time last week I took delivery of my new Adventra SX6. So far I really like the car. The steering is perhaps just a little heavier than I'd like, but nevermind.
So far I've only done 409km on it and haven't had time to take it on a long run yet (will do when I get back from the States in a week or so). Most of my driving (apart from the odd Citylink run) has been suburban driving.
The average speed according to the computer has been 28.1km/h since I reset it last night. The average fuel consumption has been between 16.7L/100 and 17.6L/100.
To me, that looks a little high? I certainly haven't been giving it a thrashing that's for sure! Am I being a bit early in analysing this considering the car is only on it's second tank of gas?
Thanks,
Si

Thread mining? Sorry I don't understand... I was just using the search function (which is so wildly promoted if someone makes the grave mistake of creating a new thread when there are vast numbers of threads on similar topics) and came up with this one which looked to be similar to what I was asking.
Should I have started a new topic?

Driving a WL V6 Statesman from Melbourne to Mount Gambier, the 190kW was more than enough overtaking power. Just think back to 1997 and how much power the old 5.0 had in the VT.

She don't have ESP, but she has AWD. The V8 Adventra is fantastic in the wet. If you come unstuck in one, you must be doing something really stupid!

Not in the wet - in the gravel !
Gravel varies enormously. ESP will activate just before you lose it. Have a car with it and if it saves you once you will swear you won't buy another without it (my last 3 cars and I have just bought my partner a new Jetta as that, unlike many smallish cars, has it as well...)
ESP should be mandated. It saves lives and that is that !
BTW. On topic - my LX6 has now done 30000kms and averaging from day 1 with a combination of around town and longer trips, I am at 12.4l/100kms. I drive at 110km/h where possible as you will see a 10% reduction if you drive at 100km/h. A/C use is also included.

On a freeway trip 12.3 L per 100k
On the freeway trip towing a small boat 14.5 L per 100k:)
Around town using motorways and higher speed (70 to 80k) roads 18 L per 100k
Backwards and forwards from home to work,
(6klm in distance, 1st and 2nd gear work with occasional launch:burnout: ) 28 L per 100k:spew:

Wow, you're getting that economy and you're packing a LOT more heat in your engine bay than I am! :)
Having not owned a brand new car before, should I expect these figures to improve as the car 'runs in' a little more?
Thanks,

Ive looked back at RTA records and from memory the VS V8's were only sitting at 180 odd KW's for the SS?? They were all below 190kw anyway so 190kw in a V6 is mighty powerful.
Ours now has about 20 000 K's on it, maybe a bit less ... I havent been behind the wheel now since I got my VX back in Feb.
I agree with the ESP, ive seen ours working in the SX6. I'm wanting to take it too a skid pan day one day and let loose in the wet with the ESP on and then with it off just to see and feel the difference.
But as ive said before, hook a 2 tonne boat up to the back of it and then be forced to come to a complete halt from 80 kph. We had to do it once because this guy jumped in front of is then hit the brakes. Trust me the systems come into play that day and we know for certain had it been hooked up to a Commodore we simply wouldve ploughed into the back of the car in front because of the force of the boat behind.
And it also comes UP the slippery boat ramp no problems at all
I still reckon their very underrated because everyone thought bigger is better (ie Terriroty) but when you really look at it you find out that bigger is just an illusion of being better. I'd rather my "jacked up commodore wagon" with the right systems under the chassis then a massive "pile of illusion":woohoo:

If you search around a bit you'll find many guys packing mods and getting better than stock fuel consumption, especially when cruising around. VooDoo comes to mind (at least pre-turbo, not sure how he's going now...) and there are definitely a few others.
If you're after more oomph and a possible reduction in fuel consumption, then some mods may be the go. At least a tune would get you started.

The misses has got an VY Adventra LX8 blown and it get 16.7/100 around town and 10.5/100 on the highway. A lot better than my ute 22/100 around town.
