From reading people have said once you get out of a HSV you will never be happy. I have trouble with my VX Clubbie taking it places cause it gets marked or scratched or the bumper drags and it upsets me to see a beautiful car getting damaged no matter how hard i try not to when i have to drive it everyday. I have a oportunity to trade into a LS1 powered VY series 2 Calais (after no private sale succes of my car to allow me to buy the Phantom VY SS) but im not sure if my heart is in it plus the drop of power is really noticeable. I love both cars for their features and quality but they are just at two opposite ends of the scale. Has anybody done anything similar and how did u feel after the change?????

Mate I sold my SV5000 and bought a VT ex chaser, lost performance & handling and the looks from people as you drove down the street, now I wish I hadnt done it but such is life I guess, if it was me keep the clubbie and by a rattler to go to the shops etc. take it from me you do regret it, good luck

As the owner of a VY Calais, I can tell you they are a beautiful car - I love mine.
I can also tell you that I would not be selling a Clubsport to get in to one, especially if it was going to cost you money.
Unless you have major problems with your Clubbie, keep it IMHO.
I feel there are too many things you would miss, especially the seats - they are the one thing I would like to change about my Calais - I like seats that hold you more than the Calais ones do.

I would stick with the Clubby, I haven't met anyone that went from a Holden to an HSV and regretted it ... but as you said, leave your HSV and you won't be happy with whatever you get. Especially if, as chops said, it will cost you money to make the change, I wouldn't. I understand the issues you raised very well, but I would always rather be worried about a car that I really loved than not worry about a car that I was just happy with.

That's what I did. An old rattler to get me from A 2 B. Likewise I was sick of the scrapes etc and having too get it reaprayed so in the end it was goign to work out cheaper to get the $hite box to run around in.

No way I'd be doing it unless I planned to drive the Calais straight from the dealership to my local, trusted tuning shop to get it "fixed" on day #1. But then the added cost of that would start making the Calais look like an expensive option.
I like the Calais ... it's like a 4-door Monaro :stick:

Except the Monaro gets the seats I'd like in the Calais!

Keep the Clubbie mate. I have a 15 yo Pulsar I drive to the shops, leave parked at work etc when I don't want to risk taking the SS. 2 years old and no door dings or scratches yet (touch wood).

Mate
I was in the same situation a couple of years back. Traded in my VX R8 on a VY Calais (5.7) to do the sensible thing. Calais was a great car but not the same - just didn't have the edge
Thus 11 mths into a 36 month lease I traded the Calais on a VYII R8 - lesson learnt on that one!
If you love the HSV either keep her or play around with some ballon payments and jump into a demostrator HSV - helped my with the payout pain on the Calais
Cheers Stu

Thanks to you all for replying, I have a ever faithfull VL in my shed that needs a head gasket maybe i should just pull the finger out and do it and thrash it around town and just pull the rocket out for the weekend. After a bad run with the local dealer after having a new engine fitted and a casual 23ltrs per 100 k average (almost double the old) and they said that it was normal and couldn't spend any more time looking at it so just drive it. Along with a lot of other drama's i wont get into , my first HSV left a bad taste but i think im realising its not the cars fault just lack of care from the dealership and shouldn't sell it. Thanks to you all again!!!!!!
And to all those that have a Calais damm nice car i was very impressed with the entire package.

Hey, I can appreciate the concept behind this thought. Even though people say get a bomb to drive to/from work/shops, the problem is that often you don't really want a bomb .. you want a good car. Something nice to drive, always starts, stops, heater that works, AC, etc .. especially if it takes you more than 30min to get to/from work. With rego and insurance going skywards it's not always practical to get "another" car. I can understand why you want a non-HSV .. something fun, but it's not the end-of-the-world if it gets damaged. In all honesty my wife treats "my" (her??) SV8 just like any other car .. which I suppose it basically is? It's been hit twice in shopping carparks, often sits outside in the weather, gets driven thru mud at least every second day, etc, etc. Slowly I'm loosing that "anal" feeling for protecting it (the problems with the engine aren't helping). I can kind of justify it though, 'cos it's "just a Commodore" (yuck .. that kind of leaves a sour taste in my mouth). Its sad, but if you don't have the room, money, time, lifestyle, etc to keep multiple cars, then maybe "downgrading" (not being nasty here!) to a Holden (not HSV) is the go??

You are correct mate, the reason i say to myself i worked so hard was to enjoy a nice car and no i dont want to drive something else to and from work especially when during the week the only time i drive is to and from work so i like to enjoy it. Also everything can be fixed and you always see people not care about their cars and give it a quick detail and it comes up great for trade in. Maybe with the care i give it im still in front and put the rest down to "That's Motoring" if it gets to bad fix it. Hopefully not to much would happen in the two years before next change ova. Thanks again
