hey lads,
can anyone give me some information as to the differences in these two models particularly the engine department. The search button has not given me much answers, if any, as it seems that a majority of ppl on here drive other holden's besides the statesman. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Mate the only difference in the engine is NOTHING, They have a better zaust and a maor agro tune in them though.
Obviously the inside and outside of the car have more differences again.
Like better brakes, Better Suspension, Different Wheels/Tyres, Badges and Interior are diifferent as well.
There probable are a few small other things but only minor.

Hehehe There's a few WH drivers on here and several in the 12s and a couple in the 11s, do a search for "Lux-o-barge"

Like iwantahsv said there's no differences in the donk and yu can do a lot better aftermarket, do a bit of searching.

Not wanting to get personal here but it depends on what you can afford or justify as to what you buy.

There are currently quite a few former HSV baggers who said... "buy an SS and get the aftermakrket stuff and it will shit on a HSV" and "HSV's are a rip off" etc etc and guess what????

They now own HSV's!!!

Why? because NOW their circumstances have changed and they can afford one.

You are not just buying a rebadged Holden, what you get is a better tuned and restyled "package".

I love my Grange as do many of my freinds colleagues and clients.

Majority of the changes are in the ride and handling and cosmetics areas.

Oh and dont forget currently the WL Grange gets the 297kw Ls2 whereas the Holden only gets the 250kw Ls1 in Caprice Spec and 240kw in Statesman spec.

Other key differences are....

Better exhaust
Bigger brakes
firmer suspension
19" wheels and Pirelli Pzero tyres
full body styling package
upgraded sound system 12 spkr 430watts.
retrimmed interior including sill plates and full Caprice spec extras (DVD, overhead vanity mirrors etc etc...)
Holden assist
and more still which I cant remember....

no reason why you cant get a Grange into 11's as well as the driveline is the same bar the Ls1/Ls2 side of things.

Will be interesting to see what happens when the new edit is finalised for Ls2... I would imagine some of them may even sneak into the 10's.

Hehe for you a Grange promotional edge, I guess?
(Hmm do I ride in the the standard Statesman/Caprice or the Grange?)

Since the fella has a WH I assumed he was referring to the WH series where there were a few cosmetic differences (and none in the drive train) between HSV/Holden. Some thing HSV has addressed in the WLs, as you rightly pointed out (which are now Caprice based and no longer Statesman based)

If you can afford it and don't mind the $$ sure, go for a Grange and reap the added snobbery (oops I mean prestige) but also don't forget to add the insurance premiums, service charges, depreciation, finding safe parking hassles, etc.

If you still don't mind or can justify the $$, why not, I probably would go for a WL Grange too?

You used to get a bottle of wine (Grange) with the HSV. LS2 in the current model with side vents. It's sounding like the VE will be due past June next year, traditionally Statesmen’s come a few months later. The current Grange sounds like it will be current for a couple of years nearly.

Again .. trying to not get personal, but I'm pretty sure some people are happy with their standard Holdens (SS's etc) and do not "covent" a HSV? I'd personally contemplate an Clubsport, but the rest don't seem to fit my 90/60 rule .. 90% of the functionality for 60% of the price .. the extra 10% functionality with most HSV is not worth the extra 40% cost. Don't get me wrong, HSVs are nice cars, but I don't think EVERY Holden owner wants one (despite their slogan). If I had that sought of money, I'd rather have an SS *AND* buy a nice HK GTS327 Monaro ...

[ I just wish Holden would fit decent brakes as standard .. one reason for a HSV?! ]

(snip) but also don't forget to add the insurance premiums, service charges, depreciation, finding safe parking hassles, etc.

My insurance on my WK Grange is about $650 pa. The HSV DNA Data Dots, Holden Assist, etc, all make it very attractive to the insurance companies. Servicing? Same as a Caprice, quite cheap, I also have mine picked up and delivered with a loan car, all part of the standard that comes from Watson Holden  Depreciation? Sure, but then it's worth it to drive a local performance car that just goes where you want, when you want, at half the price of an equivalent import :D
