Hi,
Could anyone please help me with any of the following questions in regards to the VX II Clubsport.
What diff ration is used in the auto?
Can the car be run on ULP or does it need PULP?
Is the auto in these cars bad?
How do they go when stock (1/4 mile and rwkw)?
What should I look out for on a 2002 model auto with 66000kms??
Does the Holden extended warranty cover engine problems (piston slap and oil issues)?
Thanks guys!!

G'day XTRmn8.
I can try to answer as many as I can as I got one myself but was not stock when I got it.
Anyway Stock ratio for Auto is 3.07.
Stock engine (Stock PCM Factory program - not edited) can run on ULP, however is better to run on PULP as it takes advantage of the higher octane spark curve program.
The auto as far as I know is fairly much the same as in the SS etc.
They are as good or crap as each other and mine broke with a spectacular audio show in my driveway when I poped it into R :(
Was fortunately covered no questions asked with a warranty replacement.
Stock quater times, hmmm not sure as I never ran one down the strip stock (or any car for that matter) but I think they are in the low to mid 14 sec bracket in stock street form with approx 190 - 200rwkws. (someone please clarify if this is close to the mark)
Some dealers are a bit funny with the engine issues, but from what I have heard, some are replacing or re-building slappy and oil troubled engines if they are still a fairly 'low km' engine. (some even out of warranty period)
My experience with this - little bit of lifter noise but never had any other issues other then the transmission sh%tting itself running 230rwkws (edited).
If you are looking at a car with 66k plus, do go over it with a tooth pick.
Check as you would with any car all the history and books.
If you can get to the car when it is cold, get it started and let it run for about 5 minuts. Test drive it and see how it feels on the road.
Check what mods have been done to it and where they were done.
I am not sure if you can do this, but might be worth taking the HSV number to an HSV dealer and getting some history on the car from them also to find out if there has been any warranty claims or problems with the car.
Brake shudder? common prob but usually not too much to fix.
Front end problems such as warn bushes and sway bars seem to be common on most models but again, can be rectified.
Hope this helps a little, but I am sure there are plenty more things you can and probably should check out. ;)

I have my 10/01 Clubby and at 49,000 at march this year the local dealer replaced the engine now questions about being out of warranty. Just make sure you get your dealer to start the oil consumption test and monitor it.

Hi,
Could anyone please help me with any of the following questions in regards to the VX II Clubsport.
What diff ration is used in the auto? 3.07
Can the car be run on ULP or does it need PULP? Yes, but makes about 240kw at the engine with ULP
Is the auto in these cars bad? As bas as Stock Holdens
How do they go when stock (1/4 mile and rwkw)? 14.5 with about 180rwkw
What should I look out for on a 2002 model auto with 66000kms?? Oil consumption tests, steering rack boots, leaks
Does the Holden extended warranty cover engine problems (piston slap and oil issues)? Don't think so. I had my engine done prior to taking up the extended warranty, but decided against doing the extended due to new engine anyway.
Thanks guys!!
I hope that helps

Yeah you can check out all this info still on HSV.com.au but only the GTS / SV300 came out with 3.46 for the auto.... Now all the new VZ's have the 3.46 on auto across entire range...

My auto before Edit was about 14.5. Would go lower at times also.
After anywhere from 12.5 - 14.0 around town in Brissy.
On long haul trips I get 9.9L/100klms.

They are all different but it for some reason seems to be evident that the VX model does drink a little more fuel.
I am curious to know why this is myself.
One thing I cannot resist to say though is the Auto is a dog in itself without an edit at least, but all jokes aside, I unfortunately experience a lot of congested city traffic and it goes through the juice in those conditions. 18l ave with under 30km per hour averages were netted around town, but my size 14 shoes don't help lower the figure when escaping the traffic.
I have managed to get 10.1l pr 100km on the highway which I was fairly happy with. This was a run from Melbourne to Geelong, little driving around Geelong in the day and then back to Melbourne so gave me a resonable distance to judge this on.

I found the same in my VXII R8, slow city driving and you could easily see around 18 - 19 l/100kms ... mix of city and freeway 14 - 15 was more the average ... trip to Coffs and back in one day (1100kms ) saw an average of 10.1.

NickS,
Is your R8 edited?
This is my consumption with a maf edit and usual bolt on mods.
It is going to be interesting to see consumption numbers when I get it back with a cam, OTRCAI, High Stall and Mafless edit. I expect higher consumption around town due to bigger overlap at idle, higher stall with start and stop traffic but probably about the same as current on the highway.
Does anyone know the differences in the fuel and ignition systems in the VX range compared to say VT or VY, or other reasons why the VX series are a little more thirsty in general than other LS1's?

Mums Series 2 VX clubbie has a 3.46 diff and its an Auto. So holden vs hsv is different.

Tre-Cool, the HSV VX brochure says the auto has the 3.07 diff. Not sure if that was changed from S1 to S2 and the brochure does not say if it is for S1 or S2.
Whats the auto like on fuel?

VXII R8 Auto clubbies definately 3.07. Fact. Been there and done that with this very same dilemma.
Stock diff was labled as 3.07 and when I got the speedo and shifts changed to suit my new diff, that confirmed it as well.
It was a bastard to see the little sticker until I had the car up on a hoist.
From memory this sticker was on the right hand side of the diff when you look from the rear end of the diff (not flange side)
I pulled mine out and replaced it with a 3.73 which came from a VXII R8 clubbie manual and bolted straight in no worries.

Well thats standard fitment (3.7's)for M6's in HSV's anyway.
ONLY, HSV GTS and VZ HSV's are 3.45 in A4's
