Hi all

I am the owner of a series 1 CV8 and it is out of warrenty and over the last few weeks have had trouble with it flooding on the the drivers side front and rear.

I have had to a dealer and they said it was the grommets on the sill and have replaced them ( their cost ) and had the carpet replaced but holden are refusing to pay for the carpet though I ended up getting them to pay for the labour.

I picked it it last night and it is now saoked thru again. Dick Harltey from Holden here has said they won't pay for the carpet as it can be dried and repaired.

I want to know if anyone else has had this problem and if so have they new carpet or not out of holden and also if so did it reocurr after they repaird it?

Hope you can help ta

I had a leak only in the drivers side of my VYSS i don't know if it would be the same problem as your monaro but the problem for me was it was a hole of some kind near in the engine bay near the windscreen wiper area. At first they told me they couldn't find the problem but after telling them to hose the car down they soon found it!!
Haven't had the leak since but wouldn't be happy about paying for new carpet as it isn't your fault that it is leaking in the first place!!

Yep, get the windscreen removed and refitted. Its more common than you think.

yeas well given it had 130 litres of water in it I think I should get a new carpet but the lovley holden people don't seem to agree :p not happy but kicking and screaming everywhere I can. Specially as it has reflooded today. and now the second carpet is ruined. Will try the windscreen and the firewall. It is the water over the top of my ankle boots and the sloshing sound that I will never forget though.

I have had a similar problem except on the passengers side. Took it to holden and they "adjusted" the passengers door. Haven't had a problem since.

Where exactly is the water appear to be coming in ? Through the door, footwell air cond. vents ???

Geez I am not sure about goldfish but I am inclined to check for fish now you mention it. Holden did not even want to take the seats out and check them electric or check the air bag stuff ! Given it is all electric I was stunned !Thank god I have have great dealer that is prepared to have a go for me but I am not happy with DICK the wa haed service dude I do have to say !

So far we have the widscreen, the door and the firewall I might get them to just give me a new car but geez if they won't crack for a carpet I am not likely to get a new car I would think

I can recall reading some where about water leaks in early Monaros it was something to do with seam sealing, several had their cars gutted and had the seams resealed from memory there was a thread on here about it, or maybe I read about it in a mag. but there was definently an issue with major water leaks. They were also getting water into the sills then overflowing into the foot wells, maybe have a search I am sure it was on here some where.

Taken it back to the dealer this morning and now seen the old carpet which on the outside looks fine but they have been drying it for 4 days and the cream rubber stuff underneath is still soaked when you press on it stcks of water comes running out.

No idea where the water is coming in they assumed it was from the grommets into the floor . They are pulling it back apart now to try and find it AHHH I am in the monaro car club over here ( WA ) and someone here has suggested that we could leave it wet whack the climate control on warm high and in a few days sell it off as the wests very own rain forrest attraction! That way I get my money back on the carpet that holden will not pay for !

We have a hard time spot and MIG welding these bodies at Holdens due to the excess amounts of body sealer that are NOW applied, I've heard that there may have been some issues with water leaks but the guys on the line reckon that the cars are now sealed better than boats.

Doesn't help you much hercv8 but a friend of mine just had the same problem with a Sigma and I suggested sitting inside the car while someone hoses down the car (aiming upward to rain down on the car) to see where the water comes in.

And fight for the new carpet, the Monaro deserves it.

Gotta go, my VC commodore wagon has an inch of water in the passenger footwell I need to get rid of, not 130 litres though.

Hi hercv8,

I'm sorry to read about your misfortune.

The problem you described is most likely caused by a "hole" in a seam that sits behind the top of the front guards on the body. Water rolls down from the base of the windscreen and goes into the hole. The fix involves removing the front guards (and front bumper bar) patching the holes and reassembling it.

The other possible cause is water entering from the rear wheel arch. There could be a small hole (4-5 mm) in the wheel well located towards the front of the car. When you drive in the rain, water sprays off the tyre straight into the hole. It's very easy to fix - block it with sealant.

Both of these issues are known to Holden and your dealer should be aware of them. Dealers get issued tech alerts regularly. Both of this issues were covered - I've read them.

Cheers, Ed. ;)

I had a similar problem with my old VT if I parked it anywhere that had it on a lean, whichever side of the car was the high side, that front footwell would pool with water. I found it was getting in around the bottom door seal where it meets the seal running around the door sill. At the front bottom corner, where it starts to curve up and head towards the roof, water would pool here and eventually overflow into the cabin. Where the side kick panels meet the door sill, there's a gap between them, the seal sits a little low here and makes a bit of a channel for the water to flow into the car (taht was my problem anyway. To solve it I cut a hole in the seal where the water was pooiling, then did the same on the bottom of the seal so the water could drain out. No more leaks. I'm now driving my parents VT for a while and it has the same problem in the back if parked in my driveway. I've found leaving it out the front it won't leak as it sits pretty much level. I've been told Holden reckon to regularly clean the seals and spray them with silicone spray to help them seal better, might try that. Sorry for the dribble, hope you get the Monaro sorted. There's not too much worse than a water leak ina car that you can't find.

Hi guys Yippee I got it back. It supposedly does not leak now. New grommets again !Stacks loads of sealant on the under body of the car plus winscreen checked etc etc and it is supposedly leak free. MMMMMMM we shall wait and see. The dealer in Midland bless em ( very cool dude called Chirs looked after me and nice service guys at dealers are hard to find ) have sorted it all out given me cooool Monaro floor mats ! I think I have come out of this sort of OK. Don't like Holden much anymore. They love hiding behind the dealers which is really unfair ! At least now I have no more undocumented water feature - nemo could not be found. Given the rain over here in the west and in the east check the back of your Monaro if you don't often get in it. It might be a bit wet !

Good to hear that your monaro has received the appropriate "surgery" from your dealer, who has obviously done his best for you. Cheers, Pickles.

Bit off topic but I thought Holden had generally fixed leaks (in sedans anyway)from VX on? (I've had 2 VX's and 4 VY's and none of them ever leaked)

When I was young the local holden dealer 'fixed' mum's UC torana swimming pool boot by drilling a hole through the bottom of the spare wheel well - I wonder if that 'fix' was in a technical bulletin  Would not like to see them doing that to a Monaro!
