I'm thinking of upgrading the brakes on our Series 111 Monaro, & was wondering how to keep the calipers clean, & particularly, how to remove brake dust etc. I've been looking at various wheel cleaners, particularly Meguiars, which are fine for wheels, but they all say to keep the product off the calipers, or damage could occur. So, what do you guys say, if you've got a pristine set of Harrops or APs etc, how do you keep them looking like new, and avoid damage to both the painted & alloy parts of the caliper? Cheers, Pickles.

It depends on the paint. I use a mild Acid/degreaser as the paint is good quality. On poor paint (WRX calipers) they can fade. The metal itself is VERY tough and can withstand heat and the crap off the roads. If needed wet the caliper first, then spray on the acid/degreaser as this helps spread it and not have concentrations in once spot that can eat away the paint.
If your really keen you can polish the caliper with normal car polish and it keeps the dust off longer and enables any that does get on to come off without much effort. If you do this dont use degreaser as it then washes off the polish/wax.

Use EBC green stuff pads as they minimise dust. I use meguires on my harrops and my AP's with no problems

mine aren't painted or anything but the meguiars wheel cleaner always seems to make them come up nice and clean...

Justice, So you have been cleaning your rotors (Harrop & AP) with Meguiars with no consequent fading, or paint damage, or any other sort of reaction.-There are 2 Meguiars wheel cleaners-which one do you use? Cheers, Pickles.
