View Full Version : Warranty paint issue
Hey Guys The Clubby is going in for a couple of small warranty item's on Monday. 1 being the bonnett has been rubbing ever so slightly on the grille & there are two tiny wear marks. Dealer has already readjusted the bonnett. & have booked the Clubby in to get the whole front bumper repainted at a panel shop on Monday just not sure I really want the bar repainted. as it's just two tiny marks & can only be noticed when the bonnett is up. So what do you guys think should I let them repaint the bar or just live with it? As dont want it to look like it's been in a accident repair. any opinion's welcome

I think the best bet would be to grin and bear it! If its just a couple of small marks not worth the worry!

I have a VYSS and when I purchased it I noticed the rear bumper had been painted due to a small graise but It really turned me off the car as the job looks crap (apparently done by holden) I did buy the car and are planning to have the bumper repainted as soon as I can find someone in perth who I can be certain will do a top jpb(aby referals welcome) but I would suggest dont paint yours .

Yeah I'd leave it mate, being red especially, they will never be able to match the colour right, with fading etc..
Not worth getting it back and being able to notice the colour difference more than the original reason it went in for!

Maybe get them to patch those sections rather than a full respray

get it repainted, the bars arent even painted with the car at the factory, I know people who work at holden & they say sometimes the bars are completely different colour to rest of car

Going against the trend, I'd just like to add my 3c in here (taking into account inflation).
I kissed a brick wall in my redhot VYSS a little while ago, and I just couldn't live with it.. So I took the punt and had it resprayed...
Other than having to rant and rave before the spraypainter put a clearcoat on (he reckoned it didn't need one, I knew it did....), the match was absolutely perfect and I couldn't have been happier.
But yeah if it's invisible when the bonnet's closed, I wouldn't worry..
On the other hand, if you're losing sleep at night - go for it. My rear bumper cost me $190 to respray, and yeah - it was a perfect job. Colour matching NEW flat colours really shouldn't be tough.

if the bonnet isnt rubbing anymore and holden are willing to get it done under warranty then id say go for it just for peice of mind - if it really annoys you.
make sure its a good repairer first though. You will find that a fair few new cars are touched up before final delivery anyhow .. and quite often no1 notices. Most shops should be able to do a good job these days.

Why don't you ask who they use and go and have a talk with them, they might be able to blend it in then to repaint the hole bar that way you will be more happy with it.

Why not get a mobile touch up guy to address the rub spots if you're really worried - no point in doing the whole bumper for something that's invisible unless the bonnet is up. A shit respray job on the bumper may look worse in 2 years if it peels or fades worse than the original paint.

The plastic bumpers and sills/grilles etc are made by another mob (a mate of mine works there) and they prepaint them prior to shipping to GMH. He got my door bump strips done for me and they were a perfect match to the doors. Maybe dodgy dealer touch ups may look different but I'm pretty sure the OE stuff is spot on for colour match.
