Hey y'all, bit embarrased to ask (been out of the loop for a while) :o but what does the LS in LS1/LS2 stand for? Is it Long Stroke? I tend to want to understand things thoroughly before blabbing on about crap.

Thanks.

not really...
GM worldwide uses a system of naming bits they put in cars...
L is for all engines as in L31 L34 LV2 (various Holden V8s)
or LT1 or LS1 (Chev designations)
as is
M is for transmissions..M21 M40 MM6 M15 etc
as is G is for diffs etc
and then each subsidiary is given a block of codes to use
for other bits..DF3 = your LH mirror
and C60 = Air Con

some names get idolised by us punters of things GM
like A9X or LT1 or LS7

hth

cheers

Ive heard many answers to your question from
L,ittle S, lappy 1
L,oud S,tartups
L,oada S,hite
L,eeking S,ump (oil must be going somewhere)

But I don't entirely agree.

I thought LS = Light Sport and LT = Light Truck?
