G'day chaps,
Early this morning I WOT, 1st gear on blacktop road with slight bumps.
Probably slight wheelspin, then this loud THUMP noise from the rear.
Only doing around 40kph, but just thought "What the hell was that".
Checked out the car this morning and all is fine and still drives like a gem.
Can't work out what the hell could have caused the sound.
Sounded like I might have "snapped" something, but all looks okay... wierd!!

I've suffered from axle tramp before... not good.
This was more of a Flat Strap... Some Wheel Spin (No bouncy axle tramp)... then a loud THUD!!!
Anyway, quick accelerating has made me wonder about something else.
Let's say the speed limit is 80kph.
You're sitting beside a lovely police officer at the lights.
Lights change and you give it some!!!
Now, you don't lay any rubber, and you don't go over the limit.
All you've done is go from zero to 80 in real quick time.
Could that lovely police officer book you, and for what????

If you've got an aftermarket exhaust they may try to do you for noise pollution. If they've got nothing they can still pull you over for an "RBT" or any other reason just to harass you but in any case being a smart ass they will try to be smart back. Wouldnt recommend it.

Technically you can't really be dicked for anything, BUT, they may pull you over and ask "Where's the fire, son?."
They may take a closer look at your ride and find something to pin you with.
Better off flooring it when Mr. Plod isn't around.
Ever heard of "Don't poke the bear" or "Don't dance with the devil"
Cheers

i knew a guy that did this in a 60 zone (o-60kmph) and was threatened with reckless driving and driving without due care... he was giving a warning so not sure if the police could do him for it though... *shrugs*

RTA website used to have penalties associated with street racing but these are now gone (i Cant find them) - only one listed on their site that would apply:
"Start/Drive vehicle causing unnecessary noise/smoke $225 3 points"
