My son is looking at purchasing a 1995 Lexcen, am told its the same as a VS Commodore. It has a 3.8 Ecotech with 4 speed auto box.
Can anyone tell me if there are any differences?
Are they as good as a Commodore.?
Are they viewed as a Commodore(cool) or a Totota(rice)?

Identical to a VS Commodore. Few visual differences. Side door moulds are higher on the door and extend around the back of the boot. Smaller rear boot garnish, different front grill and bumper. Oh and of course that Toyota badge. From memory Toyota gave Holden the Nova (Corolla) and Apollo (Camry) for the Lexcen (Commodore).

The VS Lexcen's didn't come with the ecotec from memory.

Ecotec is the Holden engine, I dont know what Toyota used.
Then again that doesnt mean the previous owner hasnt had the Holden Ecotec put into it at some stage

Both had the same engine.
It was part of the model sharing arrangement that saw the Holden Nova (Corolla) sold through Holden dealers.

They are the same. The Lexcen is generaly worth less making them a nice buy.
They are identical other than a few cosmetics. Toyota dont stock spares anymore, so they come from Holden.

Identical other than the front end, which has a different bumper and grille, some slight variations around the tail lights and the garnish panel between them, and of course, the badges. Seat trim could be different too, not that it would really matter.
Lexcens usually cost less than Commodores, so it could be a good buy. Especially if your son was thinking of putting a bodykit or something on it eventually - you'd never know if it was a Commodore or Lexcen to begin with.
Lend him a few more bucks and he can grab a VT and be done with it! ;)

is it a light metallic blue one with holden alloys and clear taillights? if so, it was a mates car, and he doesn't know how to thrash a car so it should be ok. cept it had no books.

Thanks for the info guys.
No it aint a light blue one, it was a famly daily drive, know the previous owner well, and car has never been thrashed.
I just hope he drives it to his abilities, its a big increase in power from his rolla.
