Looking for advice on what I can do to increase low rpm grunt. Probably between 1k and 3k rpm.
I am am not wanting to open the engine as it is still under factory warranty.
Would a MAFLESS/OTRCAI system help much with low-end grunt?

Yes IMHO a maffless Tune is what your after. Check the Sponsor section and find out who is closer to your self and Book it in :D

Wots ur budget?
Mafless in my mind, and perhaps diff gears if you dont want to touch the engine....gets it out of that range quicker :)

Diff ratio change would also improve you driveability down low.

Being a M6 HSV he would already have 3.7's , But i guess 3.9's would be a good move If you really wanted diff gears.

I'm open on the budget as the upgrades will be about 2-3 months off......roughly about $2.5k total I guess.
What sort of price would a diff gearing change go for? Anywhere in melb that does them (Sponsor)?
It is worth going any higer than 3.9? 6th gear is almost unusable at speeds of less than about 100-110.

Talk to the boys at Matt and Glenn G&D, Horsepower Factory or Mario at Autotechnique(VCM Suite). These are all sponsors that can help you
3.9 gears will make 6th a lot more useable and the tune. Together they will liven the car, Mafless of course and will come in around your budget.

Or go slightly more radical and fit 4.11's. Most guys who fit this ratio reckon it is the best move they have made. Couple that to a Mafless tune from on of the places Darren recommended and you will have quite a quick car with plenty of grunt.

I agree if I was to change my 3.7's I wouldnt bother with 3.9's as the jump isnt that noticeable (so I've been told). 4.11's Would be the way to go. You'll be reving only 300rpm more at 100-110km/h in 6th. Only downside is that I've been told you have to put in a VS tailshaft to make it fit. Now I'm not sure how good a VS tailshaft is so it might not matter or you may end up with a weaker tailshaft.

Hi Guys,
I've had a chat with Matt @ G&D and it looks like I'll be going for the G&D OTRCAI with the MAFLESS tune.
Then I will go for the 4.11 when they are available for the VY tailshaft. Matt said they are currently in development and that they should be out in a few months.
He reckons I'll get about 245rwkw after the first two mods. :-)
Now.....time to save up some cash.

Question for a neophyte.....
What is the estimated RWKW for a standard 255 [auto] Clubby???

My VY S1 (260kw) is estimated at about 200-205rwkw in standard form. So I would imagine that your 255kw would be around 190-195rwkw.
Just my opinion from what I have seen on the forums in the past.

From what i have seen, there is stuff all difference between 255kw and 260kw cars. They would roughly put down 195-205rwkw.

from kw to rwkw its on average a 30% power loss through the gearbox/drive train etc.

30% loss.....that's about 180 rwkw ...ouch!!!! Time to think about a tune....

Yep, my clubby ran about 180 rwkw or there about in stock form
Sorry to go back to the gears, but.
My understanding is 3.9's are as high (numerically) as you can go from late VT on!
I have been told 4.11's are not available for the 80 series diff but is for the 75 and 78 series(VN to earlyVT).
SSCOVILL - Can you confirm weather G + D will use the weaker 7.8" VS diff to use 4.11's? Is a 4.11 ring and pinion being developed for our 8" diffs?
Either I'm confused or there are some new developments on the horizon.

Like I said you can have 4.11's fitted but you will end up using a VS tailshaft to make it fit. I'm not sure but isnt Markone2 using 4.11's in his auto  Does anyone know how his driveline as a whole is standing up to continual runs at the strip?

Just to clarify, there is 4.11 gears being developed for the 80 series diff however, they may be some time off and will cost alot more than the current 3.9 or 3.73 ratio's. We can and have utilized the VS diff for conversions and it does work out quite affordable using second hand gears but from what we have seen the gears have probably done over 200,000 kays when they find themselves in wreckers and do not tend to last long before getting very noisy.
My advise would be to either use 3.9's or wait a couple of months or so for the new gears to arrive and pay the extra dollars.
The 78 series gears do not fit into the 80 series housing, therefor it is more than a simple tailshaft replacement to swap them over.
Matt.

He is, the 4.11’s are a VS LSD conversion, and are without question noisy, however they are pure sent heaven when compared to the alternative..4.11 spool gears .......and surprisingly rather street friendly.
Driveline is holding well allowing the A4 is starting to display the 1st signs of strain…the situation at present being 500 runs or Bust… preferably not the later :burnout:
4.11's for the 80 series, fantastic. Where do I put my name to the waiting list. :D
The current 4.11 option of using 7,5" and 7.8" carriers does not sit well with me as I hear the pinion teeth have a habit of falling off due to the torque! They were designed for 5.0 PFI Holden V8's in 1500KG cars after all.
Markone2 - 500 runs has to be some kind of record, I feel for the 7.8" . Auto's are softer on gears but your car has traction and power to run those numbers. My luck would have them fail running 13's
Out of interest, what variant were the 4.11's developed for, nothing in Australia I can think of? The closest I know were the shot peened VN GRP A 3.45 gears (1990).

Cannot help there....but I can tell you the LSD on the 4.11's is another heaven sent bonus over the LSD setup on the 3.7's /3.9's....single spinning is a thing of the past ...non-exsistent...dissappeared totally :)
