they are waterproof and sealed. spray degreaser and a high pressure hose works fine. Just pay some attention to fuse boxes. the rest is fine to wet. Some WD40 on the electricals if you feel it needs it.

Biggest problem here is getting water into the knock sensors.
They have not been waterproofed very well by the factory and the front one collects water & starts corroding the sensor as the rubber plug on the top of the valley plate doesn't seal well.
Apart from that.......as Voodoo says; though a good spray with a can of light maintenance oil first on the electrics is a good idea.
(This then acts as a water repellant/dispersant).
To do this properly you need to disconnect every plug and spray the contacts and re-connect, plug leads at coil and plug end especially, plus every connector you can get to under bonnet is good insurance, along with the fusebox too (remove cover and spray, replace cover).
It's a once only job that takes about half-an-hour and will keep any damp out, then you can set to with whatever you want; powerwasher, garden hose etc.

I always start mine up as soon as I have finished
with the water, and let it run up to op temp to
dry things out a bit. I always take the plastic
bag off the alternator first though....well maybe
one time I forgot :o

  I can laugh 'cause I once dropped the oil in my car (not the clubby) and left it to drain and....sort of forgot about it. Went to run down to the shops and started the car up, reversed up the driveway and then looked forward to see the drain pain full of oil in the middle of the garage with the sump plug next to it. Promptly shut the car down and felt like a complete fool
I've hit my engine bay with the high pressure cleaner at car lovers a couple of times (and no I don't actually wash the car with their stupid brush, just the engine clean), doesn't seem to have caused any problems.
Just gotta remember to take it easy with the throttle when leaving, everything gets a bit sideways a bit too easy when pulling out of car lovers with a wet car ;)

And if you have a pod filter (or any exposed air filter)remember to put a plastic bag on it too.... and take it off.
I forgot and started the engine with it on and it sucked so hard it crumpled the filter!!!! :D :D :D
