I am thinking of having my standard VY SS mags done in shadow chrome. Is this possible and if so
1.how do they do it,
2. Any idea of cost, and
3. Any recommended places in Brisbane preferably
Thanks

Unfortunately no good for you since Im in country Vic.

Local guy here has been painting wheels in a shadow chrome type paint. He wasnt charging much last time I enquired and it looks fantastic. Really good job.
I think the real shadow chrome finish is a coating like chrome, not paint, but what this guy does looks really good.

I was told by a HSV engineer that shadow chrome is a multi stage process similar to Powder Coating.

Thats what i believe too mate. Your best bet will be to goto a Tyre Shop and ask them who they recommend for mag wheel repairs and can do Shadow Crome coating.

I have hp design whels that are chrome. They have some scuff marks and I wanted to get them fixed so i took it to a place that mainly made and repairs custom wheels. They told me that they could repair/fill the scratche/scrapes but they cannot chrome them. the wheels are made from some sort of composite alloy and no one in australia can rechrome them. they said that sometimes they paint the whole 1 inch or so of the rim. As I did not want this, they recommended that I sell the wheels and get new ones as sending them somewhere in asia where they make them would cost too much on freight. I imagine that the shadow chrome process would be the same. I think that buying new ones/second hand would be the only way you will have the right look :(

DonMate i hate to break it to you but i think your having your chain yanked. There are lots of Mag Wheel repairers that can crome or shadow crome a wheel. I would be asking around a number of different places as this doesnt sound true.

the place u need to talk to is called depulle wheels not sure on the correct
spelling for there name i will have a look at work and find there phone no.
they have painted sevral GTS rims for me for customers
most of the ones had fairly bad damage and cost about $200 a rim
the do very good work and yes it does take sevral layers of paint
to get the color correct

I know a place in springwood that can do it. Ring me tommorow. He is removing some gutter rash off my car and then repainting my wheels for me in the next few weeks.

If you are right I would be very happy but I will ask around anyway. The main reason he said was because it was made of a composite alloy.

anyone know a good reasonably priced pace in melbourne also? wouldnt mind getting some scratches on my rims fixed up also. probably get all 4 wheels re-painted though so they all look the same.

Had a reply from Depulu Wheel Reconditioners they can do the shadow chrome on my VY Mags for $175 per wheel. Think at that price I will hold off and look at different wheels (maybe CV8R wheels).

Thanks for all the help and advice guys

These guys are kidding themselves if they think that $175 per wheel is a fair price....FOR A REPAIR. Temp tyres sell wheels for $250ea for a new shaddow chrome 19" by HPDeisgn and you can have it on the spot no waiting.... I have some gutter rash on a set of GTS 19's and I dont think these wheels are even worth that....

If they are anything like the repairs that insurance paid for on my wheels the paint comes off and they have just "BOGGED" the gutter rash.

For that price I'll have a crack at repairing and re-painting them myself.....
