They are probably just selling the exhaust that is used on the US GTO, It is a few db higher than the Australian one from what I read somewhere.
Meant to sound very nice.
Would be interested to know if anyone has got one and how loud it realy is.

And it does, much meatier at idle and louder at revs, but still doesn't explain the ADR issues. The current VZ exhaust only just made it past ADR having been rejected a fair few times.

Ok, go to the link below and scroll down to the 2 audio files. They are official audio clips that once appeared on the Pontiac website.

Thanks for that link Mynaro
I noticed the GTO owners manual was there as well.
Any idea where I can download a PDF of the current Monaro's owners Manual ?

After reading most of the posts in this thread a lot of you are worried or concerned, regarding the next Monaro. IMO I don't think anyone should, I visited the St Catherines engine plant last Friday, they had an open house and car show to all GM vehicles, for all that don't know, all of the LS1, LS2 corvette, GTO, Monaro etc engines are built here except the new LS6 corvette engine witch is hand built in the States, anyway during one of the tours to the dyno lab,I met one of my buddys he was standing next to this big wig engineer so I asked anything special being built, he paused and with a big smile said trying to hold back. the future looks bright in the next few years for GM. He stated they just finished testing the new 6.2 litre engines, the heads have larger intake and exhaust valves and to compensate the valves are stagered, like a big block chev. He would not disclose horsepower or anymore info but 30 engines were shipped to Australia. And that the final place for assembly of these engines will be in Mexico. All of you can speculate what you want, but I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Performance Exhaust - $ 1397.00*
This race track inspired performance exhaust is based on Pontiac GTO exhaust system and is specifically designed to work with VZ Monaro engine configuration. It offers unmistakable and distinctive V8 engine sound, with all the character you'd like from Holden Monaro - it is sure to put a smile on the face of every petrol head.
Please note that VZ Monaro Performance Exhaust does not comply with ADR requirements (due to excessive noise), and is permitted for race track use only.
* The recommended retail price (RRP) for accessories includes GST but does not include fitting and labour costs.
Part number is 92182841

Funny how the exhaust noise is considered too loud when you see Harleys on the road that are a hell of a lot louder.

Interesting...
I wonder if these exhausts are any good, and whether these cars come with a different mapping because of them?
I note there's no mention of any actual PERFORMANCE gains, so probably not....

just a few of quick questions for HOLDEN REP......
1) When will be the last period in which Dealers will be able to place orders for CV8Z? Im getting a hard sell from a dealer claiming that this week will be the last week they are able to place orders on this car which i find quite absurd!
2) Im interested in a silver car - but the red stitching and instrument display background isnt to my liking......is there any way that the stitching can be changed to a silver stitch on the steering wheel and gearknob? And also perhaps a white backing on the instruments?
3) I wasnt able to test drive a manual VZ monaro - they seem quite rare in adelaide! But i was offered a drive of a VZ SV8 Manual.....which was supposed to be representative. BUT - before I sign on any dotted lines - Im quite concerned at how the car's gearknob had massive vibrations coming through when the car was in motion (and in gear) and also there were a lot of mechanical moises such as clunks from the rear and when the car was moving (and the clutch pressed in) i noticed a whirring noise from the trans.....are all these normal manual experiences in a Monaro as well or was this car quite sick?
Hoping you can shed some light on these issues
thanks very much!

I dunno about the last order dates, but if you're in the market - I wouldn't procrastinate.
As far as the SV8 being representative, I wouldn't say so. I came from a VYII SS to the VZ Monaro, and there's (in my opinion) plenty of difference.
Then again, if you're happy with the SV8, you'll be over the moon with the Monaro.
Vibrating gear knob? Yeah man, this is a muscle car. It's supposed to shake a little! If you want refinement, buy an Audi! (And a nice sensible cardigan to go with it)

Agreed, that's one of the 'features' that gives this car character. And people love it when sitting at the lights and the car is shaking from left to right. It's scares the littlies. :)
Just got an email back from my Holden dealer and he adamantly stated that the Performance exhaust option is for TRACK USE ONLY but didn't mention how they would police it. Oh his other comment was "Some guru in marketing thought up this brainchild of an option". I think he meant to say "Nice idea, bad execution".
Also spoke to my sister who works at the EPA in Melbourne and they are aware of what to expect with these 'black nostrilled' Monaros. Anyone thinking of purchasing the performance option will be having fun with the EPA forcing their car off the road or requesting them to have the exhaust replaced.
And before anyone asks, the EPA will not be targetting these cars specifically (and officially) but if someone is aware of excessive noise with said car, rings in, complains and provides details of the said car, the EPA will issue a notice to have the car tested and subsequently rejected.
Caveat Emptor.

just been on holden's site, nothing on there about the exhaust option being race only, bring it on i say. What is the go with spares for this model? I'm thinking of buying a spare bonnet with flutes, spare rim and front bumper before all the clones take them, spose GMH has to keep making them 'till your warranty period is up. Does this mean, even trying to end the VZ they have to keep making to ensure enough supply? Planning to park this one next to my HQ 2 door GTS and my HK GTS 307, not bragging, just bringing to light the problem of NOS parts for these old girls, try to find new a HT-HG bonnet these days!. 'least in 25 years the plastic wont be riddled with rust.

Things may have changed, but I seem to remember a manufacturer is legally bound to supply spares for 10 years.. Is this still not the case?

I'm not sure what you call refinement, but having a transmission give your whole body a massage through the gearshift isn't acceptable. I did get a 24-hr drive of a manual VZ Monaro in Adelaide before ordering mine (in Auto, to suit the girlfriend as she's quite short) and found the vibration far greater than should be the case. Yes, I also have an Audi (S4 6M), but no cardigan, and if you're willing to settle for less than refined, that's your choice. But there's a big difference between a car lumping over at the lights, as a muscle car should, and shaking the gearshift around like a Hyundai.
This isn't a Australian vs Euro rant. Yes, I love my Audi S4, but I considered a VZ Clubby R8 before ordering the Monaro and the test drive of that showed that a muscle car manual transmission doesn't need to flop around or vibrate like crazy. The manual in that felt great...maybe 'cos it was connected to the LS2 ?
At the end of the day, the Monaro is a beautiful car, and zacz, if you get one, you'll probably get used to the vibration before long, as we all get used to things we dislike when exposed to them long enough, like crap stereo speakers.
Now where do I lay the bait and express some opinion about muscle car drivers, blue tank tops, and slabs of VB

Mmm, I dunno.. Mine certainly gives a feeling of movement and _slight_ vibration through the stick - but it's far from shaking around... I guess a shortshift is always available (and the monaro is available with one), if that makes it any easier for you. They are certainly more accurate.
Maybe the one you testdrove was knackered.... but after you drive a eurocar, it's not exactly fair to compare. They're in a whole other league (and a whole different financial league as well).
Where the Monaro lacks in refinement, it makes up for with soul and character.
And I can say all of that with reasonable objectivity, as my wife's car is a brand new euro-car... I love it too, but for completely different reasons (wearing the sensible hat now)...

saw a cv8-z in the flesh today, nothing amazing really that i havent seen before, but one thing worth noting is the black nostril accents just look like they are black plastic and not painted (if you get what i mean)
hi all
Does anyone know if a VZ HSV GTO Coupe Instrument Cluster would swap into a VZ Monaro? If so - how much would it cost on average?
Reason i am asking is that im not a big fan of the coloured instrument cluster background and white needles on the VZ....and i think the red needles and white background would look better!

I'd have to disagree there Herc ... Previous to the VZ yes the Monaro did look good in black ... but I've seen enough black VZeds both night and day so say they don't look good at all (and I wouldnt take pics on the net into account, a cars colour looks very different in the flesh, believe me) ... Firstly you can't even see the scoops and then when u do, it just looks all wrong ... the matt balck-outs on the rear end just do not suit a black gloss car ... just doesnt go.
Most cars are what they call colour sensative because of their shape and accentuations ... this is even more so on sports and performance cars ... Black is a great colour but it doesnt look good on everything ... Black outs on a car offer a contrast which give it an edge ... when the car is painted in black you totaly delete and remove these contrasts from the naked eye ... IMO not a good thing.
The pick of the bunch would have to be a VZ CV8 not CV8-Z ... what's this Z business? ... 350Z are known as Zeds ... why Holden did this was stupid IMO ... and to put matt black on the front of the scoops totaly wrecked them (if you can't make them look better (which they couldnt, just leave the damn things alone) ... I know if I was a VZ CV8 Monaro owner and had the added the sunroof ... I'd be laughing my head off, in that for once the previous model or in this case series owner got the better looking of the two.
If I was shopping for the last of the legends I'd be out there trying to find the first sereis VZ not the CV8-Z ... Unless you can't live without the car in Fusion, which as a colour not bad IMO.

The seats are way more subtle than the shots on the brochure. They are closer to a tan colour rather that "HOT" orange as i had expected.
I only have the one shot at the mome due to lack of time.

Colour is a subjective topic. So its useless to debate IMHO.
I would prefer the Z for multiple reasons. It is one of 1200. The rims it comes with shit on the previous models. The $2,500 sunroof comes with the car.
Resale will possibly be slightly higher.
For the same price on road, you cant argue with that.

So pleased to hear they are more Tan than orange.
Sounds fantastic.
I am still yet to lock in the colour. Either silver, Fusion or Yellow.
Dealer will have a Fusion CV8-Z Wednesday I hope so I can decide after seeing the color and interior in the flesh.
Colour is such a personal thing, there are no fast rules as to good and bad, yes some shapes are colour sensitive but it still comes back to taste.
We all have it and its what makes us individuals.

Interesting... I'd like to hear confirmation of that..
I've yet to see one over here in the west.. It appears they're all drying up real fast.. I did see a standard CV8 yellow "demo" in one of the local yards for only $51k though.. Seems crazy money to me, considering how fast these things are gonna dry up.
Better get in now guys, if you want one... And watch what happens to the 2nd hand market.

Youngs in Vic Park.
No idea whether it was manual or auto..... It's parked out the front at the moment, and I only saw it there on a driveby. Yellow one (VZ), but they've also got a Yellow S2 or S3 there too. No idea how many k's there's on it, or how they'd "load it up" when you tried to call them in on the price.

Saw a Devil cv8z auto at Melville Motors on the showroom floor. Just like the one I ordered, but mine aint in till 1 October ! Blast it all to hell - the excruciation of the wait. Good thing I got in as early as I did - all sold out, in WA at least. Confirmed with WA Monaro owners club - all WA allocated vehicles - all gone. Dealers knocking back orders or are taking them with clause of don't hold your breath.
Anyway, it looks as sik as I expected. The Yellow / Black combo makes this the meanest looking Colour around - as far as my tastes. Black bonnet scoops stand out, giving it the unmistakable cv8z street cred. The black tint on the rear lights vs yellow – drool-able as is the tinted sunroof. The machine finished, embossed wheels look sensational - the pictures seen do not bring out the machine finish - which looks spectacular.
I'm gushing like a little schoolgirl.
Anyway - seeya on the road - and get out of my way ! LOL

I saw a CV8Z (fusion) for the first time "in the flesh" at a Holden display at Sandown yesterday. I must say that it did look good. I liked the two tone interior, & the wheels were pretty smart with large CV8Z logos actually cast into the wheels. But, of course the car is still the same mechanically, & whilst the CV8Z has some extra features, I am still of the opinion that Holden should have given it a few mechanical "upgrades", to really make this (what I believe anyway, will be the last Monaro) really special. It appears that it will be now up to HSV, whose plans for the coupe should be revealed within 6 weeks, to see if they have anything special for the Coupe, before it ceases production, which I think will happen mid 2006 at the latest. At Sandown, I also saw a new HSV GTO Coupe in Devil yellow, with matching trim & optional AP brakes--now that IS a nice car--a bit dear for me though I'm afraid! Cheers, Pickles.

Well, I finally got delivery of my Phantom CV8Z M6 on Friday.
:flip2:
From first impression, I am truely impressed!! I was the proud owner of a CV8 Series 2 Phantom M6, and once heard on the forum that they will be releasing the CV8Z, I place an order in the next day. I was happy with the S2 CV8, and with its mods: 3.91's, Mafless LS1Edit, GTS Maf Pipe, 10" K&N Pod, and Full Exhaust, etc.
I never took a VZ Monaro for a drive so didn't know what to expect. I got a call from Doughboy earlier telling me he saw my car at the dealer and he thought that I didn't have much to do with it, it was good as it is! Yeah, yeah I was thinking..
Anyway, I jumped in to take her home on Friday and the drive home blew me away. The exhaust note is mild and there, better than any car Holdens ever released. The different gear ratios in the M6 compared to my old one proved a very similar final drive to my old one with 3.91's. The new Drive-by-wire is nice and works well. This one feels a lot tighter, quieter and smoother to drive than the old one. You notice the cam in this motor due to the little shake while idling (unless thats a poor tune from Holdens  )
On first glance, I am disappointed that Holden have made changes over the S2 CV8. They have removed the CV8 logo from the speedo dash. They have removed the sports pedal for the foot rest and replaced it with the standard rubber one. The pockets on the rear of the front seats have changed from the vinyl ones to the mesh net. Seat feel about 1" higher at the lowest level. The indicator/wiper stakes are a mat black plastic, which lend to much more markings that the smoother type. The fusion cluster is a bit difficult to read during the day (compared to the old Red one I had)
The cool features that I have noticed. The cluster has all the standard Calais type features PLUS digital Speedo!! Stock exhaust is definately throatier.. And they really push that on their TV Commercial (Full system will go on it shortly, to give me the sound I prefer!) Love the tips!! Love the rims.. they actually look heaps better than the pictures. Phantom II actaully looks darker than the S2 CV8 Phantom. Love the two-tone seats.
I still have some mods to put back on the Z that have been removed from my S2 CV8, and after a Mafless tune on this, we should see some very nice results.
Bottom Line... LOVE IT!!! plus I have another 3 Years Warranty
For all those that are still tihinking about purchasing one... Stop thinking about it and go out and get one
IF THERE ARE ANY LEFT..... :D
Can anyone tell me what size the standard exhaust pipes are and are the same as the VZ?
Cheers
hi snappa!
Congrats on your new car!
Its interesting what you say about the Drivers Footrest pedal......on VZ Monaros it is there as i remember seeing it in the car i took for a test drive! I havent yet been inside a Z - so cant confirm - but i did take a closer look at the pics from the Z which was at Sandown (see earlier in this forum for the link)...and theres an interior shot there which you can see the pedal - and SHOCK HORROR it is in fact a standard rubber pedal!!
Sounds like the beancounters made a trade with marketing so they could squeeze in the sunroof and chrome wheels! Doh!
Im sure that this can be purchased though from the spare parts department...i certainly will be anyway!
To answer your question on exhaust pipes, i read on the VZ press launch info that the piping is 70mm at the front leading into 63.5mm pipes through an intermediate muffler then into separate rear mufflers on either side - exiting in the 95mm chrome tips. Hope that helps!
Post some pics of your car when you can please.....

Wasnt that impressed with the phantom untill i saw your pics, nice, i reckon it needs some silver in the grille and the hood scoops though. My mates got a devil cv8z but std mats in it, not like your in your pics, my dealer told me they werent putting mats in it for the price and you had to pay extra for any mats!. This was after they had heaps of enquiries and were selling so fast, they actually were getting 66k for them in the end. I hope mine comes with the cv8z mats.
There is one in Manduah Holden, turissmo 6spd, cv8z not sold.

I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago and its due for delivery before the end of this month.
I ordered the Fusion and was told that the auto is sold out across Oz now.
I had a look at the Fusion at Barry Smiths in Pennant Hills at the weekend and it looks awesome in the daylight full sun. It's much richer than the Holden pics and the black hilights really stand out.
I'm dieing to get it.....can't sleep or think properly at the moment :)

Its funny, cause i dont think even the dealers know what they can get or not.
But apparently the place i ordered mine from has 30 allocated to them and 16 already sold, i just hope they can still get me one. i have already signed the contact and paid a deposit.
It also might be scare tatics by dealers.
Im pretty sure WA, SA have been sold out. NSW would have the largest allocations

The fleet dealer at Sundells told me he needed me to fax my Leaseplan quote and my drivers license so that he could order mine because dealers had to prove a sale in order to get more than they are alocated. Now this may be "dealer talk" but he is a fleet dealer and doesn't really have to "sell" me the car.

The ONLY time you would pay RRP for a Holden is when the dealer tells you he has no room to move. If so, look for another dealer!
They all know these will sell, so why sell at under RRP and affect their profit margin.
If you'e a loyal customer, they is NO reason why you shouldn't be looked after and get a discount off the car.
Look at about $2700-$3000 discount of RRP as a minimum!
Thats if you can still order one ;)

Well I just dug out my Leaseplan paperwork and the FULLY inclusive price was 53,745.
The base price after both Leaseplan and dealer discount was 51,100 before GST.
I would say thats a substantial discount. Mind you I work for Westpac and we get a top deal on cars because we have 30,000 employees.

There is no Fleet discount applied to Monaro. CV8 or CV8z. However the dealer is able to discount the vehicle at their discretion up to a certain level but definately not where an SS would be for example.

1200 Zs is about 10% of the total Australian Monaro production! Hardly an exclusive limited edition model. Reeks of marketing since they did nothing but changes some minimal parts and add Fusion which is a take on Tiga Mica.
How many Rs did they make? Two lots of 350? BTW, I am happy to corrected. :) As much as I like the Z and I suppose what it stands for (marketing bull' aside), with minimal changes made to the car it is a bit too much like a marketing stunt for me. :(

The gearbox in the Mercedes is far more intelligent than the one in our Commodores (at least we can tune em).
The 7-speed SMG 'box in the M5 is not an auto it is a clutchless manual.

Clarkson also prefers the Aston Martin DB9 to the previous DB7 Vantage due to the DB9's auto box. However this is a tiptronic and has paddles.
Eventually I think cars will all be Auto with a tiptronic. Simply because we spend more time in the city than a racetrack. But when on ocasion we do go to the track, we can still have some of the control back.

While you are driving, no-one sees the mats anyway, but if you are not driving it, showing it etc, then just lift up your rubber mats, & your CV8Z mats will be (& remain) in pristine condition underneath. We have done this for our Monaro & VN Group A, & the original mats are AS NEW, after years of use. Cheers, Pickles.

Just for everyone's info.
I enquired to get a fresh set of CV8Z mats, to store for later when the one i do have are worn...
they are!
$324 NON REFUNDABLE
I think Holdens are trying to make sure no one that owns a VZ will be able to dress it up to be a CV8Z, at least not cheaply!
Wonder if you can purchase the rims and how much they will be!
RRP on the mats is $302.50
RRP on the wheels is 385.00 ea

Hey all,
Went looking on Saturday and I must admit it was a hard decision.
I saw a Devil cv8-Z in the sun and man they look good
The darker lenses on the rear lights are just right and the wheels have a different finish to them which I reckon looks schmick.
Then the dealer took me round the back and showed me a pre-delivery Fusion and made my choice a whole damn lot harder.
The colour is different to what I expected and IMHO it looks ace !
There is a depth to the finish that looks like a couple of clear coats have been applied.
Long story short ; I ordered the Fusion and will hopefully be picking it up Friday night.
Kudos to the guys at Dandenong for their service, they're even swapping my diff out into the new car, (headers and zorst are not compatible)...
Roll on Friday nite.....
Wonder if you can purchase the rims and how much they will be!
Yeah Mate I've found a place that have two set of the CV8 Z rims. I should be picking up a set for the wagon tomorrow :D

That is sooooo stupid, it should of been across the board, why penalise ppl that didnt go for the gold or black, IMO thats really dum, but hey, ill see if i can get some CV8-Z mats in if i get the quicksilver :p
dru
I agree - its quite a disadvantage to people who dont get a fusion interior!
Im wondering if we can get the embroidery done ourselves on the supplied carpet mats? Just need some artwork of the logo....
By the way, Ive discovered another subtle change from VZ CV8s which hasnt been mentioned... all leather stitching on steering wheel, knobs and levers (for non-fusion interiors) is now silver-grey! So devil yellow gets grey stitching, quicksilver gets grey stitching (thank goodness!) and turismo gets grey stitching.
Hey Jimbo AUS - congrats and take lots of pics when you pick up your car....that is when you get back from that really really long drive which Im sure you will take coming back from the dealership! ;)

Picked up my Devil CV8Z late this afternoon. Lovin it. Definetly no CV8Z embroidery on floor mats, shame - but really stepping all over the CV8Z logo would be a disgrace anyway ~!
Couple of oddities if someone can please validate :
a) I have two car keys - but only 1 boot key ? Seem strange!
b) I have the Red (positive) battery plastic cover, but no cover on the negatie ? What the ? Funny thing is - the battery was flat when they tried starting the car to hand it over to me. They promptly bummed it using the big portable battery jumper. Maybe they took it off (or ripped it off considering the red one is attached - and did not put it back). Any ideas.
Off for a spin !

Dont know about the CV8-Z although my VY SS also has only a cover on the positive rail of the battery, no cover on the negative... Dont know why .. stupid i think.
And 1 boot key??
Once again dont know about the CV8-Z but my SS has a remote boot lock on both keys?
Congrats on the new car too.... you will be using a fair bit of fuel cruising around in it now that its new. :)

Ok armed with life saving coffee I can type.
1 glove box key is correct. They only deliver it with one and it can only be replaced by Holden. Keep the tag because it has the unique holden number is on it for replacement.
Got the Z mats with mine as well.
Mine only has the battery cover on the positive.....weird that.
I picked up me new Fusion Z at Gordon on Thursday 1pm....perfect day and took it straight up the F3 to get used to it and fiddle with its bits. She was purring and I had a bit of fun.
Headed back into town to work to show it off to the boys in my team. Parked down in our buildings underground carpark and they all came down for a looksee. I was like a proud father of course. They loved it and jealousy was rife :)
Took a spin down George St and I'm sure a few ppl actually hurt themselves by snapping their heads around to look at it.
Drove most of the night and came home dead tired and slept.....5 hours later "blink" I'm awake and out. Drive up to the central coast to get my daughter who is 14 and brought her back with me. We had to go via her little friends house because her friend didnt believe her about me getting it. More adulation and then back to town.
Got her tinted yesterday. 35% but I wished I had gotten 20% now. Still it looks mean and the guy did a great job. Can't roll the windows down yet....but maybe tomorrow.
Funny thing happened in Epping. I'm driving down blaxland rd and roll past an intersection that a cop is pulling up to on my right and is making a left hand turn away opposite me. Next set of lights the cop car comes screaming up behind me and pulls up next to me. It's 2 cop chicks and they have a look at me and one says.....love your car mate. We had a little chat and they drove off. Nice touch :)
My camera charger is at work so no pics till I get it back....sorry.
Gotta say I love the car and I'm totally happy with the finish and quality. Rock solid.
A couple of things tho.
I didnt check the odo when I picked it up. I checked it later on Thursday and it said 127k's. Now I worked out that I had driven maybe 70k's since pickup. Which means it had 57 k's on it roughly at pick up time. This seems like a lot?
Any thoughts there?
Also it seems to strugle with working out whether to take off in first or second unless you give it a little bit of stick at the lights. It's an auto. It's like its trying to decide on a gear and sorted uses second until you give it a bit more power then its fine. Wallowing is the best way to describe it.
Well I'm off to the gong for a blat and see some mates....catchya's later.

Got my Fusion Z last night and it also had around 65 km on it.
The tint was done in house so not that.
They did swap over my 3.91 diff so that may have needed some running in ?
We got worried there for a bit Jimbo AUS! Good to see youre loving the zed!
The issue you have should dissapear once the Auto trans "learns" how you drive and loosens up a bit.....if its still happening at 1000km i would be worried!
Its not uncommon for new cars to be delivered with between 20 and 40kms...at the end of the day they are driven to various places to get the pre-delivery work done, then theres on and off the trucks and around the yards etc
Im curious why you say you wish you got the 20% tinting...I always thought it wouldve looked a lot better to be as dark as you can...is it perhaps TOO dark?
My dealer was saying for me to get the 35% i had to sign a waiver... what do you guys reckon?

The 35% tinting is the dark standard tint that you can get anywhere and the 20% is darker again.....really dark almost black. You can get 5% tinting as well but its illegal and might get you a defect. They use it in limo's and such.
The 35% is fine really and totally legal in NSW. I'm not sure about other states tho.

As you all might remember i owned a VZ SS for almost 3.5 months and hated it,it was slow and doughy.I had the car edited and it went much better but no where near as torquey as the CV8-Z. My CV8-Z is greattttttttttt.
I love every thing about it.
I think these CV8-Z are going to be a collectors item,But hey their built to drive.
I have to take mine in on monday, for the sunroof to be adjusted (slight wind noise),and also to look at the electric seats (works on and off)
About the keys, i got 2 keys both with 3 buttons and 1 glove box key.
2 questions for fellow coupe owners,I am looking for rear cup holders,I know you are all thinking how poxy, but i have two kids and stuffed if im taking the chance of a drink spilling,I have seen these cup holders in earlyer HSV coupes.
Last question anyone know if VT and VX boot spoilers fit these CV8-Z as i feel that extra boot spoiler would top the car off.

So to get this right, all i have to do is call HSV parts and ask for a VT/VX center console tool kit/cup holder section ???
Any part numbers guys as im sure holden will snuff me off.

No.
HSV took the cup holder out of the front to put the tool kit in.
Then they took the STD Holden cup holder and fitted it to the rear seat.
So the part number needed is for the Holden cup holder.
Part number is 92102400
NVU may still have stock of these.

hey Alexcs....
There is a marked noticeable difference between VZ SS and VZ CV8.......and its not just the extra horses under the bonnet which on their own are not as significant. Its the gearing that is a lot different which gives the CV8 more pepper down low - compared to the SS. That - and also the additional torque make the CV8 feel a lot gruntier than the SS.

The VZ monaro sales brochure and the manual both say auto darkening and electric controlled centre rear vision mirror, mine is a manual std one???? that sux. always had my HQ GTS, 12yrs and my HK GTS, 12months, and only through hard work, smart housing moves and now owning my own business do i really appreciate a car like this.
It only after getting out of it and standing there gobsmacked looking at it do you realise how good this is.

Great news CV8ZED, congratulations!
Im a bit surprised to hear the beancounters have taken out the chromatic rearview mirrors! That makes 2 things that have been de-specced on the CV8Z compared to the CV8 - the chromatic mirror and also the footrest pedal alloy cover! Doh!
I wonder if these items can be retro-fitted? Anyone know part numbers and costs?

I was also going to enquire about the mirror. I also have the bog standard one in my Munro - considering the luxury level of this car is equivelent to the Statesman this makes no sense to me. Anybody get the auto mirror with their CV8Z or even with the VZ as standard ?

Im a bit surprised to hear the beancounters have taken out the chromatic rearview mirrors! That makes 2 things that have been de-specced on the CV8Z compared to the CV8 - the chromatic mirror and also the footrest pedal alloy cover! Doh!
I wonder if these items can be retro-fitted? Anyone know part numbers and costs?
News like this makes me wonder just how 'valuable' these Zeds will be in the long run. I'd like to see the numbers of VZ CV8s sold in comparison. Would be interesting to see f there is actually less than 1200 of them in comparison. Which one is the collectible?

I was also going to enquire about the mirror. I also have the bog standard one in my Munro - considering the luxury level of this car is equivelent to the Statesman this makes no sense to me. Anybody get the auto mirror with their CV8Z or even with the VZ as standard ?
Standard on my VZ as well as the left pedal. Also have proper leather pockets behind front seats.

I remember studying the Holden website at length to work out the differences between the regular CV8 vs CV8Z. I don't remember this coming up as a difference, has it been changed recently? I could be wrong of of course:

The Electro-chromatic rear view mirror on the Holden website is definetly only Standard on the CV8 - not the Z. I have heard about the foot rest being alloy on the CV8 only. Have not heard the pocket difference. Any one comments on this. My Z definetly is synthetic for the pocket. To check - look inside the pocket - the underside should tell the story - otherwise you won't be able to tell.
Holden - first the SS Z, and now cost cutting on the latest Munro, hell of a way to butcher your own brand.

Great rims being Machined faced with the grey accent's & embossed CV8-z in them.

The Z will always be the most saught after Monaro in the future - but these Mickey Mouse cost savings do Holden no favours. Thats it, I'm going to Ford.. HAHA

I think zacz is correct,as the car feels totaly different to the VZ SS,it pulls very cleanly and more touchy down low.

Hi Mynaro!
Its an interesting point....
I have it on good authority that till the end of Aug, 1585 VZ CV8s had been sold...assuming that they got another 200 or so in stock at that point, that would mean that around 1800 VZ CV8s will have been sold compared to 1200 CV8-Z's. So this last model doesnt really seem that "limited" after all does it?
But in any event, it is still something special...always will be. And the VZ in whatever guise really is the best of the bunch.......
Lets face it, we are all enthusiasts who love driving (look at Jimbo AUS - he hasnt been home in days! :D ) - so who can really put a price on the pleasure of driving one of these fine australian sports cars?
Like i say to people - if you want an investment - buy property, bonds or shares! If you want fun - buy a sports car you wanna drive!

And will keep on working...even ten years down the track. A send off is always a good thing. I do tend to think they should have done it bigger - e.g. 5 - 10 extra fwkw or something would have made it absolutely brilliant.
But then you burn the loyalists with the previous model even more. It's a catch 22 situation. As it is the Monaro has gone out with a bang - as opposed to a nuclear explosion.

I actually prefer mine, as it is missing the scoops and bodywork 'improvements', about 100kg in weight and especially the repositioned fuel tank. Also the requirement for premium fuel. Plus a SIII was actually made in fewer numbers than SI, SII or the total of VZ. Of course the straight CV8-Z is rarer counted on its own. Mine in manual might be the rarest combination. It might just mean everyone else has more taste than me..... :o
That's quibbling, though. They're all good, and still a pretty special vehicle - maybe not as special as a HK GTS, but special all the same.

Hi there Dacious- Very well said! Owning a Series 111, although not such a rare colour as yours, I think the Series 111 is a pretty good combination as well. We use ours for week-end/holidays etc, & quite often fill the boot, with bags, collapsible chairs etc. Of course, we would survive with the smaller boot-but it just goes to show that earlier models do have some advantages. Cheers, Pickles.

Hey - it fits a set of golf clubs. Thats the only requirement for a sports car.

04-10-2005, 02:21 PM
I actually think the Series 1 to 3 models will be the most valuable eventually as they are the original NEW Monaro. This model looks like the concept car that blew everyone away and forced Holden to build the Monaro. It was the car that everyone was talking about when they first came out and the car that went through so much publicity in the months leading up to its release. That shape will stick in peoples minds over time.
Plenty of "non car people" I know loved the original but were very luke warm to the VZ. I was to. I waited for the VZ model as I thought this was the one to buy but in the end I chose a Series III as I liked the look of them alot better. Probably ended up with the last new CV8 R 6 speed in Australia. In the short term the VZ will probably hold its value better because alot of Monaro buyers think it looks tougher with the scoops, I personally HATE the scoops. The twin exhausts look good but dont really suit the car. The driveline improvements were great though.
In the end though they are all awesome cars and a true modern day classic! I love them

I spoke to holden today and they inform me that the pads are Bendix.
below is the bendix bedding in procedure
1/ Accelerate vehicle to 60km/h
2/ Apply brakes using moderate to firm pedal effort, reducing speed to 5km/h
3/ Drive 100m - 200m accelerating to 60km/h
4/ Repeat steps 1 to 3 between 12 & 15 times
Hope this helps

I'm pretty sure that bedding in would be a once off before the brakes had 10k on them.

04-10-2005, 08:49 PM
i dont want to be the only one answering,im a mechanic by trade and you are correct this procedure must be done for all non aspestos brake pads.If pads are incorrectly bedded in they will fault due to the resin in the brake pad being cured to quickly/slowly.This procedure can not be done to freshen pads up.
If you have incorrectly bedded a brake pad in,it will cause the pad to squeal or groan, the only way to fix this,is to replace the brake pad and machine/reface the rotors, then rebed the brake pads

Thanks, sounds about right. Found a good link on brake & rotors bedding :
http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm
The link mentions 60mph...which is ~100km speeds. The other important thing is that at the last near-stop...keep on cruising for a while to let the breaks cool off..do not stop...so ensure no traffic jam !
They also mention that a second bedding in cycle AFTER COMPLETE COOL OFF to really get them sorted !

Well its nearly here! After 2 months of waiting I got the call today that my silver Zed is ready for pick up on friday! ;) :D

I have a few questions for those of you who already drive Monaros - or those in the know:
1) Does the Monaro CV8Z have an alarm? If not - what alarm system integrates with it and is recommended?
2) What do you think of FIFTH DIMENSION paint / interior protection? (www.motorone.com.au) Ive been told this is a very good system...
3) With tinting windows, Im going for the 35% film.....but has anyone had trouble with radio reception and tinted windows when theres a glass antenna like in the VZ monaro? I have heard that some tints contain metallic compounds which actually cause interference!
4) Does the sunroof need to be tinted? I know it comes pre-tinted from the factory but was considering getting it tinted a bit too....not sure if it needs it though!
Thanks for your help!

You can get up to 20% tint in NSW without getting defected. Your tinter should be able to use metalic film on the sides and non-metallic on the read window. Thats what mine did. He also told me that the metallic tint only affects the AM band regardless.....so if you like John Laws...get the non metallic.

Anyway - onto a serious question though for ALL Monaro owners.....ive noticed on my Monaro instrument cluster that the readings in the rightmost window (where INST FUEL and FUEL USED etc appears) seems to be a bit wavy / flickery when looking at it from the passenger seat.
Straight ahead its fine! Also noticed that this problem is worsened when the instrument lights are dimmed...its totally ok and stable (non flickery/wavey) when totally bright but the dimmer it gets the more it flickers....
Has anyone experienced this problem? What can be done about it? Hopefully you guys can suggest something! :)
Aside from this minor quibble with the cluster....my only gripe was that the dealer didnt give me a full tank of go-fast juice and got me regular plates instead of the premium slim-type ones....

Only having the Z for a week I filled it up twice since. Strange situation both times. When I parked the car - the analogue gauge showed 1/4 tank full. Upon my return to the car a while later, started it up – and lo and behold the gauge is showing absolutely no fuel! And this is no hill parking, it’s perfectly level ground.
Both times - thinking I had more than enough fuel to go on about my business for considerable more K’s, I ended up in mad panic flogging it down to the closest servo to give it some juice !
Each occasion I had to put in ~60 litters. I cannot give a concrete km’s travelled from each tank as I’ve been messing around with the dash computer inadvertently resetting my trip data. This time I will start applying some science to this phenomenon.
All in all – it’s quite safe to say – Holden have done jack shit to fix this outstanding design issue – even cars made a few weeks ago are displaying symptoms you’d only perhaps attribute to Russian made Lada’s. And all this in $60k car +on-road costs. For shame. Hopefully this racket is busted wide open – because there is going to be hell to pay !!!

It's a damn shame we have to pollute this "Last of a Legend" thread with problems. But I for one have had enough of this ridiculous problem.
I've run out of fuel countless times in my 6 yo SS (from new) due to exactly the same problem. I've concentrated more on my fuel gauge that the road in all those years...watching in awe petrol magically materialise in the tank as the gauge slowly crept by as much as 30% up during a regular cruise. Constantly calculating and measuring how many km's I've done so as not to run out of petrol in the middle of the freeway. And yes the car was back to the dealer throughout all those 6 years to get this issue resolved - did it? of course not. Eventually it wore me out, broke me like a dog - I ended up living with it. There was also the swish from the rear wheels that could never be fixed. If this swish also shows its head in this newer generation of Holdens - I'm going drive the car through the dealers front window !
The fuel gauge surely is a safety issue.....my eyes on the gauges not the road, or running out of petrol in busy areas creating potential for accidents.
What sort of retarded idiots cannot do something as simple as measure how much liquid is in a tank ?!? They better be able to fix it this time.

hey jimbo
nothing wrong with the oil its just good to get it changed as when the motor runs it, there might be little bits of metal fragments that will come out on the oil change

dru that sounds a little risky actually....it may need to be thinner for a reason and it might also affect your warranty if you deviate from the recommended weight.

druThat ia a TOP oil for older engines-used it in our VN Group A & other V8s we've owned. It's too thick for Gen 111's though- you'd want to be using 10w/30, or something like that. Cheers, Pickles.

Here is another link to the CV8Z Commerical which was originally posted by Mynaro, and now has been re-cropped and with out the black surround.
This is still a lot better than what Holden is offering on their Download page.
Hopefully will get the 1080i version and make that available for the collectors!

I finally took delivery of my CV8z in fusion. I can't wipe the smile of my face. I can't beleive the difference in exhaust note from this one compared to the series 1 ( my bro has a series 1).

I remember studying the Holden website at length to work out the differences between the regular CV8 vs CV8Z. I don't remember this coming up as a difference, has it been changed recently? I could be wrong of of course:

Went to the NZ site by accident to check something. Noticed that the NZ CV8Z's get the rear view mirror and the Oz ones don't :( :

How annoying,i would have loved another gaget to play with ,to tell the truth i acctualy rang holden the day after i too delivery of mine because i thought they forgot to add my electric mirror.
Also congrats monarocv8z i still cant wipe the smile off my face either.
Ps: my fuel gauge reads a little slow when its on empty,eg: when im driving home it wll be just touching the red when i start it in the morning it says "VERY LOW" ZERO KMS LEFT.
Is this the fuel gauge fault guys are talking about as it only seems to hapen close to empty

Yes, same on mine. I have above red. Park the car, come back later - I'm on empty. Went to dealer the other day to get a couple of things done- told them about the guage. Service guy told me it's a known issue - software fix was supposed to come from Holden in October. Now apparently delayed till ~December. Smells of bull to me frankly - and if it ever gets fixed, it will be a miracle. Keep on making a strong case for it tho - don't let up, complain consistently, otherwise they will never bother with it. My 2c.

The lady said "no sorry only the CV8 came out with that option"
Bloody kiwis get it though ha ha ha
I wonder if it has something to do with the glare from the sunroof playing havic with the electrics (more than likely its due to the fact of the free sunroof, different mags and limited edition numbers made)
Still think Holden should have gone all out and given all options as in the CV8 and added a spastic KW engine, but hey i love mine to bits id root it if i could (pipes too big)

Holden Commodre variant's fuel gauges = bloody crap. That's all there is to it. Has been like that since the VT. I have heard numerous compaints from people with different models and years.
Mine is telling me I have used 70-odd litres of fuel, but I can only fit in 50-55L. It's also telling me I'm using 19.5L/100km round town, but when I work it out myself (off how much fuel I can fit in) I am only using 15.2 per 100kms. I get the 0kms to empty thing quite often, even though when I was last in the car it would be saying 20km or something.
The worst it was once it was saying I had 70kms left, turn car off, turn on and I have 0kms. That was when I first got it, gave me a scare that's for sure. It sucks how they can't get such a fundemental thing correct. :bash: My old Mazda ones were 10 times better. I hope they ditch the contract for whom ever supplies that part.
