Holden Commodre variant's fuel gauges = bloody crap. That's all there is to it. Has been like that since the VT. I have heard numerous compaints from people with different models and years.
Mine is telling me I have used 70-odd litres of fuel, but I can only fit in 50-55L. It's also telling me I'm using 19.5L/100km round town, but when I work it out myself (off how much fuel I can fit in) I am only using 15.2 per 100kms. I get the 0kms to empty thing quite often, even though when I was last in the car it would be saying 20km or something.
The worst it was once it was saying I had 70kms left, turn car off, turn on and I have 0kms. That was when I first got it, gave me a scare that's for sure. It sucks how they can't get such a fundemental thing correct. :bash: My old Mazda ones were 10 times better. I hope they ditch the contract for whom ever supplies that part.
Ok, I got mine back from the 10,000k service after mentioning to them the fuel situation and they tell me for the VZ that is quite normal. It is a 75L tank but there is a safety level in there that will only allow you to get down to 10L left. They didn't reflash my car at all as it was working within spec so I leave it as that.
As for getting a different reading, grab your owners manual and follow the fuel calibration procedure. I've done mine and had to adjust it down to something like 97% to get the car reading to be what is actually going into the tank.
In it's simplest form, reset your fuel usage counter. Then fill up the tank 5 times without resetting. Keep your receipts and total up the fuel put into the car. Then look at the fuel reading from the dash and notice the discrepancy. When you enter the fuel calibration menu, you just adjust the amount, up or down until the fuel used matches the fuel you have entered. From there, it should adjust everything accordingly, fuel usage, Ltrs/100ks etc etc etc.
My next calibration is the distance travelled. They recommend a freeway and using their markers but not sure how safe that is to do.
Cheers,
Steve

ok post #503 in this thread....wonder what the record is for a single thread??
anyway, I can't do this in my SS as it only has a single window trip computer....what a shame.

Jimbo,
You mentioned some sloppy shifting from your auto previously in this thread. Am I remembering right ?
Anyway have you tried doing a PCM Reset to see if it squares it all out?

Yeah Muz.....it is a little sloppy still. Seems to climb to 4th too quick at lower revs. I was going to let them know at my 3k service in a few weeks.
How do you reset the PCM?

How do you reset the PCM?
Open the big flap under your steering wheel down. There you will see a white fuse removing tool. (refer to car manual)
Pop your bonnet. Open up fuse box. Look on the underside of the cover for a map to the fuses. Look for "ENG. CONT/BCM". On my map it say 15a...but in reality it's 10 (red) in my Munro for some reason.
Make sure your car is off - pull fuse out. Switch on your ignition - on mine it first told me no fuel then gave a service error with some beeps.
Turn off ignition again, put in fuse - start her up.
This hopefully should have cleared all the "learning" crap that may have made your box sloppy.

I didn't bother with the idling procedure above, and the car never really got to any stalling point. However the idle did fluctuate a slight amount.
Good luck - let us know how it goes.

No I have not noticed any change from the reset. When I bought the car I was very much impressed with the responsiveness of the car. The auto gear changes were razor sharp in comparison to my previous 220kw SS.
I since took the Monaro to the dealer to get a few misc things looked at (non mechanical). Since getting it back it felt a bit dull. So they either did something -or- it's pure paranoid delusion on my part -or- I'm used to the performance and are no longer blown away by it.
Strangely after getting it back, the trip computer was on the approximate same amount of K's as the ODO - so they did do something funny as I reset the trip k's prior to handing the car over.
Anyway, I did the PCM reset to bring the car back to it's default state - no noted change so maybe it's all in my head afterall. Either that or the reset procedure on VZ Monaro is no longer the same as it was on the VT's, VX's, etc. and nothing has been in fact been reset !
Can't wait for an Edit.

Same Muz.....going to get it after 3000 service.
I did the PCM reset and I can see the differences already. The thing is pulling again without me having to hit it hard. I also changed to 98 octane now...going to use that from now on.
I think all the k's I did on the highway during the first 2000 might have made it lazy or something.....not sure but it seemed a bit lazy/sluggish as I said and now its going strong again.
So in my opinion the reset does work.

It is probably refering to HSV's GTO, which will produced in limited numbers next year, the Pontiac GTO which will be made to the figure of about 18000 next year and the Vauxhall Monaro which will made for the first half of next year.
So yes Holden will be making a good number of coupes next year just none for 'Holden'.
If they are infact talking about a 'Holden' it would make their current ad, which says it's "the last of it's kind", look stupid. I would like to see the article if that is the case.

There will definitely be no more Monaros in the current shape for the Australian market. But the durability/life of the HSV GTO is a little less clear. HSV have said they are going to be able to make 100 "LE" Coupes, because the US GTO will continue "through 2006"!!!-(what does this mean?). No one on the American GTO sites has made any mention of the GTO not being available after mid 2006. So does this mean that Holden will continue to make the current coupe after mid 2006, for (a) the US market-Pontiac GTO , (b) the UK market-Vauxhall VXR, & then (c) & most importantly for us, for HSV, to enable them to continue with GTO!!! The HSV dealers I've spoken to about GTO are very vague- they don't seem to know much about GTO at all- they know there will be 100 GTO LEs being built, but are not sure whether you can still order an "ordinary" GTO. What have you guys heard? Cheers, Pickles.

Maybe not exactly burnt, but if i was after something that was going to be rare, id probably be looking for a mint s/h Coupe4 rather than a regular Monaro.
I reckon in time they will be a real collectors item!

This thing is absolutely a piece of work I'm laughing everytime I hop in it and start the engine!
Only thing that hurts is clocking up the k's on this baby :( Feel like shoving it in a glass box and leaving it there forever hehehehe
Anybody have recommendations on how to drive it during the run-in process? It's only done about 130km now but yeh if anybody has some good pointers or tips please share them!
Thanks alot!

What colour did you get? Manual or Auto?
the Zed's are pretty impressive machines eh? I got mine 2 weeks ago and I still get up in the middle of the night to go for a spin!! ;)
in terms of running in - i posted the same question a few weeks ago - do a search on the forum to see what people were saying! And also after talking to some HSV technicians, basically this is what they recommend:
1) Dont idle for extended periods of time - especially when the car is new!!! In the morning, start it up - wait 10-15secs and drive (dont over-rev etc until its warmed up though)
FOR THE FIRST 500-1000kms
2) Vary speeds (ie revs) as much as you can...try to avoid staying on the same revs for extended periods
3) Dont thrash it continuously - but give it a bit (not into the red) every now and then in a mix of easy - medium driving.
4) Same with brakes - dont brake too hard continuously. (You will notice oodles of brake dust in the first few hunder kms!)
5) Somewhere between 500 and 1000kms - change your oil. This is not a scheduled service - but it is imperitive according to the experts that its done because of all the new engine gunk which gathers in the oil during the "formative" period! Mine is due for an oil change next week in fact at just 600kms!
6) Use the recommended CASTROL until the car is run in - but at the 3000km FREE Service - Ive heard that MOBIL 1 SYTHETIC is recomended as its a better oil for these cars!
And of course - ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY!!
 :D

Welcome to the Z club mate.....I know you will enjoy it because we all do :)
I drove mine pretty constantly during the first 3000 and its run in very well. On the other hand the mechs I spoke to advised me to NOT change the run in oil at this stage. Seems there is a conflict of thought about this and I'm going to be speaking to a few ppl at Holden on Monday.
Maybe one of the sponsors has thoughts on this.....I would love to hear them.

I got the colour fusion in 6 speed manual, personally I think the way to go if your going a CV8Z!
Also, another little question regarding the little "fuel gauge inaccuracy" myth.. anybody experienced something like this in their Z..?
I'm not 100% sure because im still new to the car and all but it was sitting at half way on the fuel gauge even though I pretty much just filled up the car and had quite alot of juice in the tank.. the "distance to go before empty" km reading seemed correct but the gauge im not too sure...
Not really too much of a problem though, might not even be a problem maybe me just noticing silly things that are normal :P
Thanks again

Yep, I have it, it's no myth. For me it happens when you get low on fuel - you park the car with about 1/4 showing. Come back, fire it up...0 fuel. Dealer told me they are aware of the issues and will have fix from Hoden ETA ~November.

Yeah I got the gauge bug as well. I decided to let it run down to 50k's till empty and then fill up. After that it has been fine. There is a documented bug in the fuel gauges and it affects us and the GTO's as well.
I would be surprised if the ever fix this because its been a bug for a while now and not just the fule gauges but the binnacles as well.
I got mine back from service and they found moisture in the drivers side fog lamp so they have ordered a replacement and I go back next week for fitting.

Howdy,
Fellow Fusion Z owner here.
Just wanted to give kudos to the guys at APS Frankston.
With just on 600 km on the clock it went in for a few mods.
Now I gotta admit it felt pretty good out of the box when I picked it up.
I've had a VX SS, a VX clubbie and one of last years pulse cv8-R's to compare it to and I had the dealer swap out the 3.91 from the "old" Monaro to the new one.
Like most of us I thought the stock exhaust was...damn fine actually.
Better than any other Gen 111 anyway.
But, like a lot of us, I wanted a little more 'zip' than stock.
A quick trip to APS after work one night and I booked her in for a few mods this last Monday.
Some extra cold air and a set of DiFillipo 1 7/8 extractors to 3" hi flow cats exiting thru a DiFillipo twin 3" system combined with a Maf tune has me cracking up every time I give it a little WOT.
Needless to say I'm rapt with the outcome, the torque down low that I really wanted is excellent. The Traction Control warning is going off its nut every other shift. (Yeah, I'm a wuss still driving with TC on).
The professionalism and service of all at APS is to be commended and picking it up freshly washed was a nice touch.
Thanx, Jason.

Mine does that also - its just under half on idle....then when the revs go up, it slowly moves up to just over half! Mind you today when i first started the Z after a few days of not drivin it - i noticed that it was as high as 3/4 before settling to its normal thing!

Another little concern..
How much fuel are you blokes actually going through?
I mean I'm doing alot of stop/start driving with a bit of longish highway 5th gear driving combinded and ofcourse giving it a little bit of stick every now n then to 3000rpm then up changing gear and I'm only getting around well I worked it out to be 250KM out of a full tank?
o_O either that is correct and the V8 is chewing or all types of "fuel left" readings on the dash cluster are incorrect..

Could anybody give me feedback regarding their fuel consumption, thanks!

Rob,
The dash is incorrect for sure. There is no way you could only get 250 k's out of a tank full unless it was leaking out or someone is siphoning your tank.
I get at least 450 k's a tank and most times a little more.

Went to the A.M.E. at Exhibition centre yesterday-a very good show. Holden was there, represented by Kevin Dennis Mtrs. They advised they still had a few CV8Zs available, & as I saw a few at Boorans, it appears that there are still a few of these about. Been going real well. I had to do a PCM reset again because I wasn't happy with the A4's shifting and its all good again. I'm going to get an edit soon and that should sort it out properly.
I have done 3k already and its only been a month.....but I'm sure that will slow down a bit.
The car is running great tho and totally fun to drive :)

Bloody annoyed that its raining today....was looking forward to going down the coast for a cruise.

castrol, wow, didnt think it was that good, i was always told BP was the way to go.See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=45475 - read the report (although possibly slightly discredited as detailed in later postings it gives an idea of where BP is in the scheme of things) and also post #28.
Like a few others I am currently trying E10 (cheaper than Ultimate too though may not give quite as good mileage). I have to make a decision soon though as my new car is going in for edit later this week and I have to decide whether to get edit done with E10 or run it out and fill with 98 RON for edit.

Cool Wonky. What did you end up getting?
If I was the proud owner of a brand new CV8-Z, I'd consider leaving it stock standard.
Being the last Monaro we'll see for a while, it would probably hold it's value more if it were left alone.

I think it depends on what you do really, exhaust and edit I think are fine. I plan on keeping mine for ~6 years. Lifes to short to be driving around in it stock for all that time. I was a passenger in an and edited 5.7 GTO last night. Came out of the factory as 255fwkw I beleive for this year - 5 less than the CV8Z. After the edit - I thought I was sitting in a freeking rocket...the noise, and the never ending acceleration. It really is something to behold.

in terms of running in - i posted the same question a few weeks ago - do a search on the forum to see what people were saying!
Interesting, I have heard of all these points except number 1. I was told that it was good to leave the car idleing for a few minutes when cold rather then just drive off. Did they give any reason for this?

[QUOTE=Muzzak]Nice one Jason, now what are you gonna do about your tag eh? Anyway as a side note. Did the CV8r's have a limited instrument cluster unlike any other commie, monaro or HSV ? I've only seen pictures and it looks *droolabe*. Whats the scoop ?
Muz,
U r totally right, the cv8-R had one of the best looking dial setups.
White dials with a green glow at nite and glowing red needles.
Looked the biz.
I was thinking about trying to souce one and swap out the baby cak yellowish brown one in the Z.
(Did anyone else expect dark brown dials looking at the Z ad ?).
I don't think it would work with the 2 tone leather setup, although you have a Devil Z (was sooo tempted to get that one as the dealer had both in stock) so it could look good.

Yeah, what he said.
It's definitely there in mine, VZ CV8, used it tonight for some stop light entertainment.
I asked Jimbo_AUS in the ls1gto forums about it, his is auto, and he said it's near the transmission stick. In looking at some of the press photos, it seems to say PWR as opposed to T/C which is what is in mine.
Can someone confirm, with clear pics, that the CV8-Z has T/C in both manual in automatic form.

Okay, yeah its confirmed, all monaro's come with the T/C feature on both auto and manual.
Another little question, I'm approaching 1000KM (now on a little over 700km) and I've been reading here and there people recommending to do a service at 1000KM due to the internals of the motor making the oil not so clean anymore since it's brand new..
Does anybody have decent tips regarding this?
Thanks again!

hi rob!
Like you - i was wondering the same thing. The simple answer is how pedantic are you about your car...I am very very much so - and thats why Im having my first oil change at 800km...
Logic states to me that the more often you change it (in other words dont let it get too dirty) the better it would be for your engine's insides!

As for the oil.
I spoke to a mate of mine who is a mechanic and he said the run in oil is special oil they use on brand new engines and that its clear. I went and checked and it is clear.
He said to leave it in for the first 10k because this helps tell them how efficient the engine is running during that period. it slowly changes colour as it gets older.
I would like to get some confirmation from Holden about this and get the whole story.

Rang my service guy, he said, most people with HP cars change it at 1k, and it dos'nt hurt to do it. He also said it didn't have special run in oil in it. Mine's done 820kms and i was going to get it done at 1k but noticed a weaping core plug, drivers front head, so its getting both done tommorrow.
My fuel guage flickers as viewed from pass side, but no other probs some of you are finding with this guage.
OIL-with non-roller cam engines- some sort of break in lube is used on the cam/lifters, dissy gear, oil pump gear etc to assist in running in (added protection) of the parts.
I insisted on using run-in oil in engines I built ( all mechanical cams) and change it after 200kms then at 1000kms, then i put good non synthetic oil in, havn't had a drama, and yes i have pulled them apart. This is why changing oil at 1k is important in non roller cam motors,it flushes the break in oil out and the cam goop, also production tollerances are a lot better than 30 years ago and Holden obviously would insist on changing oil at 1k and every 5k after if they could get away with charging you for it.
IDLE- it is better to start it and go than sit and idle. when you are driving you vary engine RPM and this varies the area's that get splashed under the piston, bores, and most importantly the camshaft. Also 30 years ago you had to wait for eveything to warm up to expand and fit correctly before ringing it's neck.
I will change oil and filter now at 5k and at every 5k, its only money!
Hope this helps

Same here....Fusion certainly gets some stares....you'll get used to that :)
I'm going to talk to them about the oil and let you guys know.

G'Day,
picked up my ride last Friday and its has been bliss since. I ended up going for a Quicksilver and A4. I won't go on about how good it is, suffice to say ditto the previously made comments.
Down to business with a couple of questions:
1/ Oil - yes another question but a variant - how much oil is in the engine as delivered by the dealer? I've checked mine and it is definately overfull, about up to the first wavy bit in the dipstick. Is this a problem? Its been running fine so far, up to 400km on the odo.
2/ Gorilla lock nuts - I've got a set but noticed the size of the head is different to stock socket supplied by Holden, meaning I would need to carry a second socket/spanner in the car. Did I get the right size lock nuts or do we just need to carry a second socket and drive?
3/ Power window auto close - for some reason I thought if you leave and locked the car it would wind up the windows? I've checked the manual and there is no mention of it, just wanted to make sure.
4/ Running in - yes another variant. Not so much a question, but what I was told. During pick up I asked if there were any special instuctions and was told "No, the engines are bench tested in the factory, just take it easy on the brakes for first 100-200km". 2 days later when reading the manual in the Sunday rain, I found the running in instructions mentioned previously in this thread which are a bit more specific.
Cheers,

Hi again!
i just had my first oil change today at 850km.....and the HSV mechanic that was working on my car was telling me that the initial fill oil is just standard mineral oil (castrol) and that there is a magnet in the oil sump (?) which collects metal filings and gunk in the oil at the bottom of the engine. This magnet is very effective in keeping the oil clear, but in his opinion (and the opinion of his fellow HSV techs) its better to replace the oil at 1000km, 3000km and then the 10000km mark (if its their own car that is).
He also told me I should use a synthetic on the GenIII once the engine is run in...and suggested Mobil 1 is best on these engines!
So in a nutshell - thats the answer frrom Adelaide!
Hope this helps clear it up

I haven't seen any Fusion's yet...pictures, ads, billboards yes but not in the flesh. Suppose will only be a matter of time.
Speaking of, driving to work this morning was being like in Monaro country. Must of seen 5 different ones all in the space of 10mins. They were from different series etc but it was good to be among esteemed company.

G'Day,
picked up my ride last Friday and its has been bliss since.
Cheers,
pacer
I'm right with the above questions but still wouldn't mind hearing from someone about the first question - oil level, curious. Another question :
5/ Rubber bungs for bonnet nostrils - when we were looking to buy the car originally, the sales rep mentioned that the rubber bungs for the bonnet nostrils are changeable. They can be reversed to make them partially functional but still keep water out. I've had a look at mine and while they come out completely, saw no way they could be turned around to become partially functional. Anybody else looked at theirs?
Cheers

Well unless you just want to give your engine cover some air.....I don't see any use for removing them.

I'm thinking they might help with underbonnet temperatures. I have noticed when winding the window down and the thermo fans are running a blast of hot air if I rest my elbow on the door. This is my first LS1 so don't have any practical experience to go by - just curious if it might help
cheers

hiya Pacer - i was wondering the same thing! The problem with opening them up is that the air isnt directed into the intake or anything! So all it will do is cool down engine bay temperature i would say! But how do you keep water out in times of rain?

ZacZ,
I wonder if we can find out how many silver one's were made :)
that would be good to know.....unless you know someone at Holden who is willing to share that info - I think we need to estimate!
I would say the 1200 cars would be split as follows:
Manuals.....50%
Autos........50%
Fusion............35% (420)
Phantom ........25% (300)
Quicksilver......15% (180)
Devil .............15% (180)
Turismo ........ 10% (120)
The Sales numbers so far according to my source (to end of September) are as follows:
..........................CV8.....CV8Z
2004/Aug..............48.........0
2004/Sep .............15.........0
2004/Oct.............139.........0
2004/Nov .............167........0
2004/Dec .............124........0
2005/Jan...............97........0
2005/Feb .............159........0
2005/Mar............. 153........0
2005/Apr ............153........0
2005/May.............116........0
2005/Jun .............158........0
2005/Jul...............114........0
2005/Aug.............142.......61
2005/Sep...............34......232
TOTAL...............1619.......293
By the way, I have it on good authority that around 350 Monaros found homes in October - 1 of which was mine!
I will update this table in a few days for a more accurate split of CV8 and CV8Z! Interesting to see that when production of the CV8Z is finished, there will be nearly as many Zeds sold as there are normal VZ CV8s!
So its a bit cheeky calling the Zed a Limited Edition model then isnt it? ;)

My dealer told me that Fusion and auto is sold out. Last auto comes off the line on Dec 9.
Remember that its a max of 1200 produced....they don't have to produce them unless they are ordered. I think it depends on how quickly they are going to pull the works off the line and get it ready for another vehicle.
I saw a really nice silver one today and a black one on my way home.

Hey fellas..
With my CV8Z it seems when I accelerate say in 2nd then let go of the pedal theres a little bit of "shudder/jidder" or whatever you want to call it from the rear of the car.. it kinda seems like the body is bouncing off the diff or something like that..?
It's very noticable when I accelerate in 1st then disengage clutch to 2nd it seems to like make a judder kinda knocking noise.. I dont feel anything I can just hear it.. It kinda seems like there is so much torque that when you let go of the accelerator pedal it just seems to "jump back" against the diff kinda..
Anybody with a Z or VZ Monaro have a similar problem to this?
P.S I've only done 1,700km in this car and it's a 6 speed manual
Thanks!

Ok, at first I thought it was the burble but if it is shuddering then time for some diagnosis.
When you're changing, what revs are you on or around?
Do you have traction control on or off?
Is this in the wet or dry or happens in both?
Are you going over ripple strips at the time?
Cheers,
Steve

if its traction control you will feel it die in the arse as it cuts fuel to the cylinders. (well according to holden)

Exactly, but it shouldn't shudder. I'm trying to determine if it's axle tramp when traction is lost. T/C being off that is.

I was wondering the same actually.....I'm 6 foot 3 and 1/2 and I fit in and dont hit my head at all. My seat is on the floor but thats normal for me.
Same height here but I do notice myself leaning to the left in the car ever so slightly. Don't lean as much after a hair cut. BTW, people have mentioned that the roof line is lower when a sunroof is installed. Is that fact or fiction?

New article posted on Cars Guide about the CV8Z.
Article here (http://carsguide.news.com.au/news/story_page/0,8269,17268729%255E21822,00.html)
Of note...
Just 1200 are being produced and Holden says only 200 have not been sold.
...
This colour (fusion) accounts for 43 per cent of sales.
43% of the 1200 are fusion, that's a hefty 500+. That colorur wasn't as limited as I thought. I started to feel better knowing Turismo hasn't sold that much as it is, let alone in the CV8Z form and then I see another VZ Turismo this morning. He had mud flaps on so it doesn't count.

VHSLE....for the last 32 years i have always thought the waist was in the middle of one's body (ie torso length = leg length)
Quite a revelation to learn this isnt the case....so thanks for the education! This is beginning to explain a lot....
Yeah, lower waist line, lower center of gravity, better balance. Much like the Munro itself.
At 6'3" I find that it's a 'cosy' fit for me because of longer upper body. Those with longer legs though would be knocking the cup holders and gear stick all too often. I still think the seats should have been another inch or 2 lower given the height you can get them to if you muck around with the levers. Almost like McDonalds high chairs.

Its a great Car Mr Holden! Thanks heaps....
But i think that everyone who purchased a Z would agree with me that it wouldve been a bit more special and collectable if the new LS76 6.0L V8 was in there...not to mention the small items deleted from the Z which were on the VZ CV8....
But in saying that - it is fair to say that the Z is going out with what is the best version of the 5.7L LS1! :D

Which is exactly why it needs to continue as the crowning jewell in Holdens line-up. I know alot of Monaro owners are first time Holden owners and it's the Monaro that brought them over, myself included.
I'd like to see the Monaro treated like the Corvette of the Holden range. Keep the shape, tweak it a little every few years but focus primarily on performance. Oh, and why not rear mount the engine too just for good measure. ;)

Standard on my VZ as well as the left pedal. Also have proper leather pockets behind front seats.
Steve.
My Turismo CV8Z has the vinyl leather-lookalike pockets on the seats, not mesh. Also, I can confirm the manual rear vision mirror, and no alloy footrest, and no CV8Z mats :-(
I am going to ask about the footrest at the first service tomorrow, so i will try and get the part number for those who are interested.

Sorry to bother you Uyell, but can you get a pic of the seat with the pockets.. especially the side of the seat, my old one had vinyl rap around, this has suede like around.. Wonder if they ran out of the meshing or problems were encouneted..
I do know the vinyl one had problems with it splitting against the raised part on the side
Also, how many CV8Z owners have noticed scratches on their windows from going up and down!! the common problem is STILL common... The old CV8 had its window (and tint) replace 3 times before it was sold...

My seats have the mesh/cargo net type pockets. My mirror is not the one as described on the Holden site either. poo :(
Hey Snappa and Uyell!
My Z's seatback pockets are the vinyl type as well.....
Rear View Mirror is the standard "executive" type without the chromatic function!
As for window...havent noticed any scratching (yet!)
Mats are plain jane type without any logos!
No alloy footrest - but i got the sales guys to wack one in before i took delivery!
Sunroof has natural ventilation - even when shut! Going to get that sorted on Wednesday!
Its interesting that the FUSION model that Jimbo has DOES have the net-type seat back pocket and also the good mirror! Any other FUSION owners able to confirm whether you have the same?

By the way - anyone heard from DRU?

It seems that perhaps the seats that are unique to the Fusion and the Phantom CV8Z, which have the orange inserts, were manufactured with a different pocket on the back.
I think what Jimbo was saying is that his mirror is the Executive manual type also.
zacz, I also get alot more wind noise from the sunroof in my Z. On the freeway at 100km/h it gets a bit annoying, so I have to close the sunshade to decrease the noise. The Webasto sunroof that was installed in my VXII SS was much quieter in this respect, so I have asked the service people to look at it today. Their initial response was that they have heard about this before, and sometimes it takes a while for the seals to seat properly(?!). He also told me that they can't touch the sunroof, and that any work to be done on it is supposed to be taken care of by the "sunroof specialist", and a special booking is requried for this etc. :(
Is this the same story with yours?

Ok,
No fluffy hat here!
The below pictures will hopefully explain what it going on..
http://www.haroc.1337thing.com/ls1/Snappa/scratch1.jpg
The red line is were the scratch is forming.. on the old model, i had it on three spots.. below is the reason why!
http://www.haroc.1337thing.com/ls1/Snappa/plastic.jpg
The white plastic is in the door and there are about three of them along the window strip. These are used to push the window back when going up. THESE are sratching windows..
There is a Thread Here (http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=22843) with others experiencing the same problem which was started Mar 2004!!!
As for the suede, it is actually the same as the pic above with the vinyl, but it only has meshing..
So does this mean the REAL collectors will be the Fusion and Phantom due to the differences???
NOTE:  #700 Post on this thread!!! Woohoo

Got the footrest fitted at the 3000km service today -
FYI it is part number GM92164561 $49.78
We also discovered a shallow dent about 10cm across in the roof :o near the rear edge - close to the top of the rear windscreen. The service manager reckoned it may have been caused by the sunroof installation. Apparently there are two support brackets under there that attach to the sunroof frame. So, they are going to figure out what caused it and sort it out.
Does anyone know who fitted the sunroofs to the CV8Zs? Were they done by a third party, HBD or Webasto, or done on the producion line??
I hope they can fix it up.

Steve The charge was ZERO. The sunroofs are under warranty from Webasto so the did it all under warranty once they rang Holden By Design (the installer of the roof). They advised me no need to go to Holden as a good dealer wont attempt to adjust it and will just send to them anyway.
So I was very happy. They had also adjusted the one in my Xr6 as well fro Free previously.

It will be interesting to know how they "fix it up"- Perhaps one of those paintless dent removers would be the best bet. BUT MAKE SURE IT'S A GOOD ONE.

There is speculation that the system is inefective, i.e. functions incorrectly, when there is a sunroof fitted due to the glare that may allow into the cabin. Hence it being removed on the CV8Z due to the model being fitted with sunroof stock. Anything concrete on this ?

Well guys, i took my Z in to get the sunroof looked at coz i had the noise issue (windrush above 80km/h)
Seems that a lot of Monaro CV8Zs have had the same issue and come in to them! So Holden have issued a fix for it.....
The problem is the seal around the glass.....all the lads did was replace it with a new thicker seal and vioala! Seems good so far - mine is now quiet as it should be! I'll confirm when i can get it to speeds higher than 100km/h on the weekend!

Speculation overruled. I have a HBD sunroof in mine, from factory, they left the unit in place. Nothing to do with sunroof. Whilst your theory is plausible, in actual execution it works fine. Besides, in such strong daylight, even if the unit did become active, there's just too much light to dim. It doesn't dim 100%, that would be illegal. It will only go as far as what you normall get when flicking the manual knob on the rear view mirror when someone has their high beams on behind you. The sensor itself is embedded within the unit so almost like it's focal point is directly out the back of the car. Probably to pick up direct headlight light.
Trust me, it works fine and dandy, sunroof open or closed.
Cheers,
Steve

If I had just purchased an LS1 powered CV8Z, after having being told by Holden this will be the last Monaro, I would be most upset if 400 more were made, & even more upset if the last 400 had a bigger 6 litre engine.
This engine has obviously been trialled & tested, so there's no reason why it couldn't have been fitted in the CV8Z from the start.
With another 400 to be made, there will probably be nearly as many CV8Zs as other models, but IF the last 400 are fitted with a 6 litre engine, then these will certainly be the most sought after.
Cheers, Pickles.

If you read the article - it says the extra 400 cars' specs will be the same as the original 1200...only the very last one will have "something special" to show it is the last one (in my opinion, it may be stripes or a special colour).
Holden wouldnt commit suicide by putting the 6.0L engine into MONARO for the last 400...they would have CV8Z owners breaking down doors and windows looking for blood for lying to them!! Not to mention what it will do to all Monaro resale values - which is the whole reason Monaro production is ending (to preserve the resale values)!
But youre right in saying that the additional number of cars wont make the CV8Z any more special than the VZ CV8......1600 or so of them were produced too since last year when the VZ facelift happened!
For collectors, in 20 years or so the models that will be sought after will be the CV8R Monaros and the low volume HSV Coupe 4, the 2 Limited Edition GTOs and the GTS. But like I always say, buy the Monaro and drive it because you enjoy it - not because its going to potentially appreciate in value! If it does and youve still got it in 20 years - heck thats a bonus!

I don't think the last 400 will be 6 litre....at least I hope not.

Doesn't that now mean there will be more 'limited edition' CV8Zs out there than normal 'Zs'?

Yes it means that instead of 1200 there will be 1600. 1599 of them all the same and 1 "special" one.

There was a CV8-Z parked at my local's beer garden today, it attracted much attention, what a great looking model to finish up with, it really shines in the sunlight.

So there will be 2006 badeged Monaros? Even if identical to ours that is an absolute slap in the face - 2005 should have been the end !!! Holden, you've butchered your own market for the last time, with me at least !!!

In this paragraph
Because the VZ Monaro CV8-Z already has a unique 260kW version of the Gen III V8, the new L76 engine with the same power output would not significantly improve Monaro performance. it is stating the new L76 engine won't significantly affect monaro performance, so my reading of that is, the last 400 get the L76 6.0 litre.
As for the lat one off the line, a nice chequered paintjob will distinguish the finish of the monaro;)

My understanding is that there is no edit as yet for the L76....someone will write one for sure but it may take some time.

Zacz & Devil CV8 both make interesting comments.
However, if the "last" 400 CV8Zs do not come off the line before 31/12, they will not be built with LS1, as it will not be emission compliant.
Cheers, Pickles.

Im slightly piss_d off with this,When you buy a car like the CV8-Z it was for the look and feel AND knowing you have the last Monaro ever built.
I feel Holden has scammed us.
What are your thoughts on this??
