View Full Version : CV8Z- The Last of a Legend
Devil CV8

Zacz & Devil CV8 both make interesting comments.
However, if the "last" 400 CV8Zs do not come off the line before 31/12, they will not be built with LS1, as it will not be emission compliant.
Cheers, Pickles.
That's why I quoted from the article. I can see that it can be read both ways, 1 way stating the last 400 gets the L76, or it doesn't matter that they won't as the power difference is insignificant.
Again it's just a matter of wait and see.
hi all
For the reasons mentioned above, I still dont think that they will drop the L76 in it....here's logical reasons why:
1) The development dollars to engineer the L76 for Monaro would be too high (ie amortised over 400 cars). Its not just as simple as dropping an engine thats ok in say SS Commodore into a new body...there are stacks of engineering and ADR issues around this.
2) The L76 power output is around 260kW anyway - so in terms of net power there wont be much difference in it if they were to drop the L76 in instead of the current engine - thats what i read into the article anyway
This is the key sentence in the article: "The same CV8-Z specification continues in the extra build of 400."
3) Like i said before, I dont believe that Holden would slit its throat by devaluing the first 1200 Zeds that were supposed to be the best!
Wait and see i reckon.........

Im slightly piss_d off with this,When you buy a car like the CV8-Z it was for the look and feel AND knowing you have the last Monaro ever built.
I feel Holden has scammed us.
What are your thoughts on this??
I wasn't really too surprised when I found out another 400 are to be made. After seeing it happen time and again with other brands, I was almost expecting Holden to do something.
I think the most recent example I can think of from another brand was the Nissan 350Z Anniversary special with 221kw. The anniversary specification is now the regular 350Z or at least the 221kw spec engine is or something like that.
As long as its 400 and they don't come out with another batch after that. If they come out with more than the 400, then I'll start getting annoyed.

I suspect you will get the new L76. Imagine if you ordered a Monaro in Feb 2006 and were getting a 2005 plated LS1 engine whilst the blokes ordering the 2006 SS got the 6L L76 with 510Nm, a lazy 264kW & DOD & VVT. Hmmm, I don't think so.
Ergo, the extra 400 2006 Monaros will have the 2006 compliance V8's, just like all the 2006 V8 cars from berlinas SV8, SS to Monaros.
If you want to be pissed off, ask Holden why the same car as your Monaro has been exported to the USA as the GTO from Australia with the LS2 for the last 12 months. That would piss me off more.

So much for buying a special/limited edition.. I for one would like to drive my limited edition right up Holdens &^%^&.

very true the GTO is not going to pull up beside me at the lights.
I love my CV8-Z as i feel special in it,but if they make more with the L76 engine then mine becomes another monaro on the road (not the last) as has been advertised
If Holden was bringing out a 6.0 lt version then most of use would have waited till the REAL LAST ONE.
I cant explain how pissed i am

I've done 4000km.
Holden wouldn't perform my 3k service because it was done when the car was brand new ?!?!?! I picked the car up with 800km on it.
I did get them to fix the rattley gear stick but they wrecked.ripped the gear stick boot in the process and have to order me a new one..that was two weeks ago...hmmm...
Apart from that.. I love it..
If only it had a few mods to perk it up a bit.

Sunroof has been fixed,Drivers seat has been fixed, fuel gauge has been fixed. My Holden dealership has treated me like god,When i have mentioned a problem the car is booked in the next day and im given a drive car until the car is fixed.I couldnt speak more highly of the dealership and the car.

What exactly is the sunroof fix because mine is whistling now too :(
I have always driven with it open on the freeway and decided to turn off the stereo and close it and listen and sure enough it whistles like everyone elses.

I read somewhere that Holden could continue manufacturing cars with the LS1engine but could not introduce a new model with that engine after 01/06.
If that is the case, and I think it is, then the 400 could be made with the LS1 because they won't be a new model.

I have always driven with it open on the freeway and decided to turn off the stereo and close it and listen and sure enough it whistles like everyone elses.
Mine went back 2 times and they put different style rubbers on it.
Finaly i was told to bring my car in on a certain day as there would be 3 hob knobs from fishermans bend (Holdens head office)
I was told that they replace the sunroof rubber with a thicker one "7mm" instead of "4mm"
My wind noise is 99% gone, and looks factory.
I was told that ALL monaros WILL have the wind noise due to the fact that the roof/windscreen is different profile to the commodores.
I was informed that any other models comming out will have a wing style deflector to stop wind noise.

Drove past the Holden Dealer on Pennant Hills Rd this afternoon and I saw this nice car up on those reverse ramps (where the ass of the car is like 3mtrs off the ground).
Nice car but alas my $$$ is tied up and will not be able to touch it for a looooooong time.. I think I will go the Police Auctions and pick me up a slightly used Hwy chaser.. (can I get an ss with a manual or all ex chasers are autos ?).

Howdy Guys,
Just a quick g,day from a new member.
I too am the very stoked owner of a new CV8Z. My car is a silver one with 6 speed manual.
It was the first car ordered and delivered by Penfold Holden in Burwood (Melbourne). I ordered it the very day after the announcement of the cars release in August.
Have only travelled 800 km,s since due to a heavy work load but just love the thing.
The only modification made since purchase has been lowering it by 30 mm all round which has made a huge difference too the look of the car. I think they are way too high in factory format.
Any way I hope to get a chance to enjoy the car over the xmas break so merry xmas to all and happy cruising.

Howdy all,
New member here !!
I picked up my Fusion CV8Z on the 9th Dec from South City Holden in Melbourne. Tomorrow it will be 2 weeks old . Have done 1,600 kms so far and ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT. !! I cant believe the attention this car attracts. I have seen heap of people walking around it when its parked, checking it out.
I have always wanted a Monaro from back in the late 80s when I first got my license.... but alas never got the opportunity to own one till now.
I have all the same problems like the whistling sunroof, manual rearview mirror, and no steel footrest, but hey all these thing can be fixed...and at the end of the day I still have a Monaro...and absolute headturning legend.
Almost 2 weeks and I still cant wipe the smile off my face :D

Performance Exhaust - $ 1397.00*
This race track inspired performance exhaust is based on Pontiac GTO exhaust system and is specifically designed to work with VZ Monaro engine configuration. It offers unmistakable and distinctive V8 engine sound, with all the character you'd like from Holden Monaro - it is sure to put a smile on the face of every petrol head.
Please note that VZ Monaro Performance Exhaust does not comply with ADR requirements (due to excessive noise), and is permitted for race track use only

I have come across your forum by chance and find it good reading. I have had my cv8z 6 weeks and find it excellent. Previous rides include 2 x GTRXU-1Falcon GT (years ago) and "family" commodore types since.
Zacz - regarding the very last cv8z it comes in the original (60's) orange color and is being auctioned on e-bay for the leukemia foundation. I believe other than a few interior "tweaks" it is standard with LS1.
Did a search on web and found 10 new cv8z still available for sale at some dealers.
I really am disappointed - (cant use the words I want to in this forum) that holden did the extra 400 cv8z's. This diminishes the "instant classic" line to "instant common classic" and holden devalued our rides even more so.
A rumour I heard (from a holden dealer) was that Telstra ordered 400 cv8z's for their "executives" to drive and thus holden did the extra 400 for the market. Still haven't confirmed it though!
Anyway, I bought my cv8z to store and drive on "sunny" days hence the 200klms in 6 weeks but to hell with that, its better to be seen in it!

Bear man ...not correct about Telstra Execs cars... the monaros (cv8 at the time)were withdrawn from the Telstra fleet list on 1st July 2005. Those who had ordered had a waiting period of approx 4 mths... in the mean time the
CV8Z was born, and all those who ordered CV8 ended up getting CV8Z 4 mths later.. Some unlucky execs who had ordered the cars were made redundant within those 4 mths...and the cars still had to be accepted by Telstra..so they became "spare cars". These spare cars were put on a list for internal staff with future delivery date published. The CV8Zs lasted under 10 mins once they were put on the list for someone to salary sacrifice...they were snapped up quick smart (other cars have been there for months).

Reading Australian Muscle today and see an article on the last one that was auctioned, and it says Holden actually pulled the pin on the CV8-Z at build #1678.
Hmmm...1200...1600....1678 ah bugger it IVE GOT ONE and 17 million dont.

well well well........thats ANOTHER 78 to add to the count!
At the end of Jan there were 287 CV8Z's left....now, adding the additional 78 means we really had started Feb 06 with 365 cars in stock!
I think they sold 135 in Feb.....so that will leave around 230 to go floating around in Dealerships around the country!
I will confirm this number and update the "MONARO SALES" thread in the next few weeks when I get the info.
